Opiate and opioid withdrawal: Coping strategies and medication

I'd say avoid amityptaline like the plague personally but maybe worth a shot if nothing else works. Is fukkin vile stuff though. I barely lasted a week on it before the side-effects vastly outweighed the neglible benifits. Pregbalin/Gabapentin would surely be a better option, no? Not tried 'em meself but Inso seemed to approve and his is nervyouchies I do believe.
 
Switching from opioid to opioid in succession and tapering off each one along the way is better than going from a high dose to cold turkey, but no matter what you use to taper, you always suffer at the end IME...

The taper that I find that works for me the best is a fast, 7 day, low dose methadone taper starting at 40mgs and goin 40,30,20,15,10,5 or something similar....this in conjunction with clonidine, hydoxyzine, ibuprofen, vitamins etc. will get you off quickly....You won't feel great for the first 7 days but you can still sleep a few hours and not be climbing the walls....

Of course, once you taper off the methadone you'll feel like hell, but it usually only lasts 3-4 days, and for me I'm usually feeling much better within a week of the last methadone dose....

Never tried Kratom or used loperamide for detox but I'm gonna give loperamide a try this time....I'm doing a slow detox with suboxone, I'm at 1.5 mgs and no matter how much I keep tapering, I don't have much faith that its gonna be easy at the end....

Somebody please come up with an opiate detox where you experience no WDs whatsoever, if only that existed!

Edit:Oh and obviously if you're detoxing from methadone and 40mgs isn't enough to hold you in the first place, this probably won't work for you in the first place....In most detoxes where I'm from they try to start you at 30mgs and if that doesnt work they'll give you 40mgs but no more....

Disregard my above post Pagey it'll likely do a number on your sleeping patterns, mood, sex drive and metabolism - I actually developed bitch tits after taking it for six weeks and I've never been even close to chubby in my life. Weird thing was I wasn't chubby, I just had tits.

Then again SHM says he has no problem with ami. There's a fairly recent thread somewhere on EADD about it, you might want to give it a read to compare/contrast.

(Also on a Gibberings note you know my dear that you and the Warlock Shambles don't count as cunts <3)

hi, I took 3mgs of kratom about an hour ago,I must say,helped so so much, now my back still hurts slightly, but my legs feel better,and I felt well enough to run to the store! THANK U! I can tell you how much your site means to me!!! I tapered from 10 to 5 mgs of metadone over the course of a week and waited to take the kratom for 2 days,wanted to have full blown WD, i mean i felt like dying before the kratom! u guys r right on! i am still very afraid of getting sick,but i feel like i can make it thanks to your advice and stories!
 
For me Tapering or switching to a weaker opiate (none of that opioid shit helps me in the slightest) is the only way to go. I have mad respect for anyone who can CT. Lots of stuff so far I wish I'd known back in July when I came off a 3 year heavy h habit. But I go into mild WD pretty much daily bc of how fast I metabolise the hydromorphone I'm on now. HM actually makes my sweat smell as soon as I enter the slightest WD. Really annoying.

Sweats: baths and hot fluids are the only things that help me and barely.

Chills/Fever: probably what I hate most (tied with leg pain), I find rocking back and forth under 3 duvets helps when I'm cold, the fever isn't as bad for me. Avoid drafts of any sorts and wool socks & gloves keep you warm & wick away sweat. The rocking is a decent distraction.

Nausea/Vomiting: I take it back, this part is the worst but it's short lived. For 3 days I couldn't keep anything down & became dangerously dehydrated. Then I found some prescription antiemetics I'd forgotten I had and they got me through the next 2 days. Only thing that helped at all. Odansetron & Granisetron were what I used and the Granisetron especially every 8 hours enabled me to even eat! Once I stopped vomiting every 5 minutes (no joke), keeping my stomach full of carbs and protein made me feel infinitely better.

Aches/Pains: like Pagey only baths help and barely. If you have underlying pain you're screwed. My pain which no amount of any opiate can fully cover was a million times worse. High dose diazepam helped keep me from freaking out over it though.

Insomnia: nothing helped me, though maybe if I'd had stronger benzos? Again diazepam helped keep me calmish.

Legs aching: actually mostly just calves, but oh they ache like a bitch. Always the first sign of WD for me and the last symptom to leave. At least a month...although it did get better after the first week. Deep massage helps but the relief is short lived. Here in Germany I found high dose OTC potassium tablets & those REALLY help. Half of one dissolved in sparkling water every 12 hours. Eating a ton of boiled buttered potatoes is next best. Or a mineral water high in potassium. Exercise of any type in the first week made my legs worse.

Diarrhea: there's an OTC drug here called Tannacomp that worked miracles for me, saved my underwear & it helped settle my stomach a bit too. Far more useful than Immodium, though it sounds like I wasn't taking enough.

Sniffles: pseudoephedrine & chlorpheniramine helped immensely. Normal dose (60/4mg) every 4 hours.

General Misery: after the first 5 days when I was hydrated & eating normally again, low dose DXM did help. Ketamine was of no use & MXE made me feel worse. The only things which actually distracted me successfully were TV/movies and especially music.The latter eventually got me dancing and really picked my mood up.
 
In the UK I was offered a drug by support worker, lefexadine? Didn't take it as my WD weren't too bad. No doubt due to my relatively short time addicted to opiates.
 
I was told it would knock me for six and not to leave the house as I might get run over cus I'd be so out of it! Which was a bit bizzare advice!
 
it done fuck all for me personally, everytime i w/d or CT my clinic dont even bother offering it to anymore. But sure it does work for some.

If you find yourself withdrawing and havent tried it, it is defo worth a shot though

I rarely post on bluelight now, partly because when I do it always bring the hunger back.
Anyway, tomorrow will be the anniversary for my 1 year clean from H.
I spent 7 years on it, with the last 18months or so getting IV morphine from a clinic.

To be quite honest, it was really easy to come off. I'm not saying that to just annoy people. I've made huge changes in my life to stay away from it (i.e I tried moving down south from Manchester and that didnt work, so I left my cushty job and moved to Spain).
I had a few months to taper from it. Tapering down from about 0.5g of IV morphine a day (twice a week pickup, which generally turned into using it all in a day and half and then scoring) to using Sevredol. Then moving to bupe. The actual science behind it went to shit, obviously once on bupe, your not meant to use and I didn't for the first couple of weeks. Once I was down to a low dose of bupe, I was scoring everyday but the most effective thing for me was the naltrexone implant. I had a massive blowout and then moved to spain. I cam back the following week for the operation and have never looked back.

I can get morphine, oxy or pretty much any opiate I want as we all know how bent Spain is with regards to doctors and I have done so getting high doses of MST and banging them. I've been banging coke but I havent touched anything for about a month. Forget all that, 1 year clean from H... other opiates don't count
 
Fuck me, I started off this thread with good intentions of summarising everything quickly and clearly but real life has got in the way and so much useful information has been added, thank you everyone <3

Ive been dragged 'through the system' for drug abuser processing this last month. My GP refered to me to one agency who were a great help in getting my usage under more control. Also offering tons of health and safety stuff i'd never thought about: the recovery position, having your phone next to you if youre taking a dose in 'unexplored territory etc. No waiting list and free.

Once this agency assesed me as being more in control, i was refered to another agency. Again no waiting list, and again free. Here i get person centered counselling, one to one help with practical matters, all sorts of group sessions. Extremely supportive environment provided by the other 'clients' and staff. The counselling has already been a big help in helping me unravel and understand some problematic thoughts. This is still a work in progress. I think all the attention alone is helping restore my confidence, and get my life back on track.

Finally, i get to the point, which i hope is relevant to the thread. This 2nd agency have refered me to a clinic which specialise in medicated opiate withdrwals. Here there seeems to be a huge bottle-neck in the system. There was talk of offering me bupenorphine, as my opiate replacement. BUT, and this may be of interest to all the AH7921 users who read this my opiate test came out as negative, when i had 120 mg of AH in my system (taken over the previous 20 hours or so). I can only speculated that this is too low a dose to be picked up, or as i am nearing the end of my supply, maybe all the 'crap' has settled to the bottom.

Anyway this Dr and my own GP are all 'we dont know the conversion rates' so you cant have any yet. Its so frustrating when i found a proper GPs guide to opiate conversions on Google in about ten seconds, yet they did not want to know. Feel like shaking them. They wont accept that a patient may know more than them about drugs that they cannot even spell and have never heard of. So frustrating. I doubt they have spent many hundreds of hours finding out about this subject that i have. Page 1 of the bupe thread states that bupe is 6 times more effective taken sublingually than orally, yet the dr says i should swallow the tablets. ( I think I'll keep quiet about that)

I hope i can get the bupe sorted soon, with the AH all over the place, i dont know from 1 day to the next whether i'll be OK, laid out with too strng a dose, or suffering WDs. Again the medical proffession seem to have no understaing of this.

This is my first post as mydrugbuddy for ages (ive been warned and banned for using alliases, which i was only doing as i couldnt figure out how to try back onto bl otherwise, anyway thanks to neighborhoodthreat and Alistair for helping and allowing me back on here to waffle away again.

Hope some of what ive posted here is relevant (sorry not read the whole thread.)
