Sorry if this is a duplicate but I cannot find the original post anywhere.
I got hurt in an accident May of last year. Herniated L4-L5, Herniated C5-C6 (with bone spur), Sacriatic joint injury and torn rotator cuff. Started me out on 5mg HC TID. Useless. 10mg HC TID not much difference. On to 10mg HC TID + Diazapam as a muscle relaxant. Starting to feel SOME relief but certainly no quality of life. I am a 42 year old male 6’2” 240lb very active but not as athletic as I once was. I am new to taking pain meds as I have refused them most of my life. I am over my Heman days and don’t mind taking something that’ll make me feel better. They tried switching me over to Oxycodone a couple months back but I did not do well with it. Side affects were sickness, insomnia, and somewhat lackadaisical. They put me back on the HC 10mg 5 times daily with the Diazapam and Gabepentin. My condolences to anyone taking Gabapentin. It mad me down right dumb. Couldn’t walk straight half the time and could barely hold a clear thought in my head. I went to my Dr. yesterday and laid it on the line to him. 12 months now with no progress. No surgery options, pain meds help somewhat but I am basically in a position where I have to medicate and constantly relax or pay the price. I explained my life long love of Kayaking, Billiards, Hiking, and working on classic cars and would like to be able to do some of that at least to some extent. He upped me to 6 HC’s daily now but said if I wanted we could try a drug called Opana. He said with it I would only need to take two daily which sounds VERY appealing to me as 6 of anything a day seems like quite a bit. The 10mg HC’s seem to work decently for 2 hours then away they go. My question is this. Has anyone had to make this same transition? If so did the Opana work out better for you? I am hoping someone who has made this same transition could give me some insight on what they’re experiences were. Thanks in advance!
