One cannabis joint as bad as five cigarettes: study

This is just another British propaganda article, they're coming out because of the push for increased penalties there.

Brits whats up?

It was in NZ, where I live, not Britain?

"The British government is considering whether cannabis should be reclassified as a more serious drug because of the dangers associated with stronger strains."
^ This isn't in their best interests for harm reduction, in relation to the findings of this study, then; if the cannabis used is stronger, less of it needs to be smoked to get to a certain effect level.

Though really, if they just removed the trade restriction and paraphernalia laws then perhaps people would buy vaporizers here and avoid that whole smoking lung damage thing altogether. That would be far too sensible for them, though =/ .

i doubt it, vaporizing doesn't provide the same high as smoking. it's a much clearer headed feeling. i think most people prefer the more total feeling that smoking provides (ive heard vaporization be described as going to a symphony and only hearing the flutes). when i had a vaporizer, i never used it because its just a different high. plus the act of rolling and smoking weed is enjoyable in itself. how many people do you see vaporizing tobacco for health concerns?

ive been smoking multiple times a day and notice almost nothing wrong with my lungs. if i smoke a pack of cigarrettes over the weekend, however, i can garantee you that ill be coughing for a week straight.

also, i dont understand how they're trying to make weed more illegal due to the stronger strains. if there are stronger strains, wouldnt that mean less hits to take for the same effect, and therefore less resin and less lung problems? maybe as long as you're getting high from it it does not matter how many hits you take, all the resin from those hits can still do damage?

Yeah it does feel different, I quite often get visual distortions and stuff from vap'ing. Very much a head-high.
I suppose people would miss the body high.

Even so it makes no sense to discourage people from vaporizing, even if only a small amount of cannabis users will end up actually using a vaporizer, in a supposedly harm-reduction country (pah, inconsistent they are!)

just set the vape to a higher temperature if you want more kinds of cannabinoids

im positive vaping gives the 'full experience'...

One 'cannabis joint' (or spliff as they call it on the streets) also happens to be at least five times more enjoyable than five cigarettes.

lol nope. any higher and you start to get a disgusting mix of vapor and smoke which is impossible to inhale and makes you cough like crazy. still doesn't come close to the rush of a bong hit though.

One would think the stronger strains would be healthier then since less smoke is required to reach the desired high.

Enough with the 'evil weed" BS.

Alcohol is much more toxic than cannabis. :\

yeah but these stronger strains make you go crazy

so they say .....

I smell sh*te

and what about those who smoke tobacco and weed in their joints?

like most of the UK and Europe!

the way i see it is this:

I want to see a gram of tobacco compared to a gram of marijuana... not this "one joint shit". this way, say marijuana is 2x as bad as tobacco... people who smoke cigs smoke what i would guess is about a gram maybe more of tobacco in ONE CIG. They smoke lots of cigs. And yes you have your hardcore pot smokers who smoke 20 blunts a day, but for someone like me, i smoke 1-3 grams a day, making cigarettes much worse.

yeah but there's something you're failing to consider. tobacco smokers don't need to really inhale the smoke. just inhaling a bit of tobacco smoke down to the top of the lungs is sufficient to deliver appropriate amounts of nicotine to the brain. with marijuana on the other hand, the bigger and deeper the hit you take, the better high you get. marijuana smokers inhale much more deeply than tobacco smokers. that's why, in my opinion, smoking a gram of marijuana does FAR FAR more damage to your lungs than smoking a gram of tobacco, even if the marijuana may not cause cancer. physically, it is still harming your lung tissue.

THC is THC is THC is THC

The lesson here is buy a vaporizer!

And burn out, vaporizing tobacco would be worse for you than smoking it.

And and, wasnt this study conducted quite a while ago? Who keeps pulling these articles to the surface that have been all conducted quite some time ago?

Quit being so dramatic. I mean really Who smokes weed everyday? Thats impossible as the lungs cant take such force. The lungs just wouldnt handle it. Its a known fact..... Look up ur resources better buddy.

ps...... Im high so i dont know wtf i was talkin about.

ahem!!.. i was jokin like i said i was high and was just writin stuff down. i know plenty of people who also toke everyday

Actually, that assertion really depends on the attitude of the person drinking. Just because the stronger alcohol has more potential to be dangerous than the beer doesn't mean it has to be.

if you drank the same volume of the bacardi as you would of the bud you would be totally fucked. But if you only drank the same volume of actual alcohol as you would have to get drunk on the bud, you'd be smiling the next morning compared to the beer drinker.

"The effect on the lungs of each joint was equivalent to smoking between 2.5 and five cigarettes in one go."
So let's go ahead and title the article '1 cannabis joint as bad as 5 cigarettes' then!

I thought this was already known, and the mechanism for it was known as well. If I have 1 joint and 1 cigarette, that joint is worth more to me. Pot costs more than tobacco. So, when I smoke my joint, I have no interest in filtering it. I have no interest in wasting any of it, so I tend to take deeper hits, and hold them in longer. I roll it tighter so it smokes longer, so I can get more out of that joint. Therefore, a cigarette causes less damage because I don't try to get as much out of a cigarette as I would a joint.
