scitek...

I agree, you should have been paid if you were owed $$$. I have no idea what happened there that night. I wasn't there!!!! I think in general, it's only fair to pay ALL the people that are owed $$$.

I just was trying to say that guest list's unfortunately can fall apart sometimes. Trust me, since I've been in the scene, and it's been a long time, I've been told numerous times I would be on a guest list and come to find out there was NO guest list....I pay the fee and move on....that's all I was trying to say.

Cheers,

Lesley

whether or not so & so used CD's

I had NO idea any of this stuff was going on. Shit, all in all I thought it was a good party. Just a couple dj's that sucked, but that's expected at any event. I would like to say that Devine did everything he could do to make this event successful. I bet very few of you know dude slept at the venue during preparation for this shit. How many of you are that dedicated?

Nuff Said.

has anyone noticed that most of the major huge parties have problems out the wazoo? Maybe it's time that parties get scaled down until there's a time when the promoters have the upper hand and can more control the stuff that happens in a big party instead of getting the obligatory "it was out of our hands"....

there seems to be TOO MUCH stuff that's "out of the promoter's hands" nowadays.

Just an observation.

First of all~ I would like to give props & respect to Mike Devine for his well thought out post addressing all the issues that have been picked apart & dragged out over numerous pages. Sometimes things get out of hand, or are beyond your control~you're only human & I think people fail to see that sometimes. (the disrespectful comments directed your way are astonishing) I think that what you & Nightbreed have done over the past year is nothing short of amazing. You guys haven't even been throwing parties for a year yet & still have a great rep in most peoples opinions...including mine!~Can anyone else find a thread for a party that goes past 20 pages?? That says a lot right there.
Mike, I really wish you could've been there back in the day. It truly was an amazing time. While it will never be as it was, it's nice to know that you care enough about the scene to want to do something about it. Too bad there aren't more people like you.

Second~To all the people talking shit about Nunnery...personally, if you don't even know him I think you need to keep his name out of your mouth! Mike Nunnery & Mythodic work their asses off to bring you the best talent there is to offer so check yourself before you try to open your mouth again~it's completely disrespectful!

Third~This whole debacle about who's using cds & who's not totally got out of hand because someone chose to take one of my posts too far & there was misunderstanding. If you reread them you know what I'm talking about. I could give a shit anymore....the issue is dead. For Gods Sake: LET. IT. GO. Stop beating a dead horse!

~Mr. Devine & Nightbreed: Despite what happened Saturday I look forward to any parties you may have in the future. & I'm truly sorry for any miscommunication we had.

Best of luck:)
Lindsay

^Thanks Les!

~Just out of curiosity, does anyone have numbers for Saturday night? Being at the party it seemed like there were an awful lot of people there but I've read some comments about there NOT being that many in attendance......?

wow, theres alot of shit at this party. but i dont care b/c when i went to parties i went to listen to music and didnt give a shit what the promoters did. i know theres gonna be problems, there problems at every party. there is something some ppl cant control. try and think of the positive things that happen b/c all this bitching isnt helping the scene. and ppl bitching about the price of the party. you must of not thought it wasnt bad befor you went to the party. i do belive that you do gotta respekt all the dj even locals. but all the other shit could of just been over looked. look nightbreeds just starting out and you gotta learn from mistakes. not every party is gonna go off as they expected. i only did this for the respect for the scene. thats it, im not sticking up for noone. its just sad that some of you cant go and listen to just music but you gotta worrie what goin around you.all you should be worried about is if the party is gonna get shut down .

I, for one, had a wonderful time. Evolve was my first event, I went w/ a group of friends all from indiana, and we had a great time.. I can't wait to do this again.

ps. does anyone remember a girl w/ little pig-tails in a Popples shirt who probably asked you for a light show, or offered a back rub? I'm trying to find some of the people i met this weekend.

Elise - aka Sqweeker

I also had a wonderful time....of course, this could be b/c it was also my first party and I didn't really know what to expect...but if it was really as bad as everyone seems to be making it out to be, I can't wait to go to a good one.

some points that i wanna make, cause i've read some dumb shit in the last few pages:

1. Dj'ing off of CD's is as valid an artform as DJ'ing off of vinyl. The technology is over 20 years old now, proven and perfected. It also takes just as much skill as it does to spin records. There is no need to hate on CD DJ's - let them do their thing and just enjoy the music. If you're a DJ who spins vinyl, learn to respect other people's choices of equipment and judge them on what really matters - track selection, mixing, style, tricks, etc.

2. DJ Funk is an alcoholic drug addicted crack smoking hack who made a bunch of great booty house anthems a couple of years ago. Somehow he translated into a successful DJ career even though he doesn't know how to DJ. Everyone who's been around for 5 minutes knows this. Promoters continue to book him because most people love booty house, mixed badly or not, and DJ Funk is pretty much the undisputed king of booty house because he produced half of it anyway. If you haven't seen him at least once, you should, if just for the ironic humor of it all.

3. If a DJ is supposed to be paid, it doesn't matter who he/she is or where they're from - they should get paid the amount agreed upon. there should always be a basic amount of respect and appreciation given any performer at an event, local or not. If the promoter doesn't have the money to pay them the agreed upon amount, then they should give the DJ a serious apology and an I.O.U. The DJ should also have a signed contract. If they don't then while ya hope they get treated fairly, all bets are off.

And by the way, here's an F.Y.I.:
if all your DJ gigs are unpaid, then stop fooling yourself - you DON'T have a "career". You have a HOBBY. "Career" means a JOB which means WORKING for MONEY. (goddamn ravers! 8( )

I guess we were booked for this...yet we never heard anything about it until I saw our name on the roster here. No contact about accomodations or maybe some gas money.
so we didn't show up.... sorry, but not.

i had a good time at this party even though there was shit going on.
i wasnt pissed about the guest list. i was upset that my friends were in and i was was left standing outside because i had no money to pay to get in. now had i been in my right mind everything may not have looked so shitty. everything worked out in the end thanks to a good friend... hehe so i finally got in to enjoy the party with my crew.
it was hot as fuck but really half the time i thought it was just me (hahaha).
thanks all invovled... mike d... thanks for walking in with me to find my friends. mike n... always enjoyed ritual shit, even letting me, alicia, and wendi in pulse even though we werent following the dress code.
thanks sorry about all the shit.

even with all this garbage and drama, i still managed to have a really good time. i know alot of things didn't go as planned, but they still managed to have a decent event. stuff did go right too, don't overlook that. i know there was alot of confusion and people didn't get what they were promised, but it happens. it sucks and i feel bad for you, but it happens.

i for one haven't lost hope for cbus. so one event didn't go perfect.... they never do. it's a rave, not a square dance.

sorry i bounced out earlier w/o saying bye, but i HAD to get back and get ready for portland. cbus still remains to big a huge black hole i can't ever get out of.... i knew i'd get convinced to stay :) this was a great graduation party ;)

i'll see you all for richie hawtin

Hey.....thanks to all who watched me in the 4th room.

ALSO...MIKE D !!!
I had your WORD on a few things......
does your word mean nothing now ?

If I'm getting fucked, I'd like to know......

all i can say is isn't this the same shit that went on 4 years ago? 3 years ago, and 2 years ago? Will it ever change? If you are tired of the same shit happening over and over and over.....ummm, how about take a step back, and look at it from another prospective....then u will realize how ridiculous, childish, and immature these parties can be. Quit hanging on. We all know it is in our souls ( including mine ).....but I finally let go because I cared. I cared for my memories and treasures of the scene...that is why I let go. It became way to pattern like, the same story every month........I mean just look at it, kids think DJ Funk can rock shit out? Come on, if you have any musical and social ambitions, you will breakthrough. The scene is nothing more than a test for your adolescence, Will you breakthrough that test and take with it what you learned? Or will you hang on and keep searching for the one vibe you found at your first party? I'm glad I broke through, it taught me a lot.
