I would like to clarify that my comment was not directed to DJ Funk playing CD’s and not vinyl. I release that, while ‘to me’ it’s less interesting to watch, it takes skill and talent to mix CD’s as well as vinyl. My comment referred to the fact that at least when I was watching, he DID NOT mix any of his track. “drrty grrl” asked what proof I had…well all I have is that his mixes went through without him using a fader and changing the output channel. Now I am not a DJ, but to my knowledge one still needs to touch the mixer to mix. Anyway, it’s not a big deal. I don’t like his style and while he may be a great producer, he is a HORRIBLE DJ…My opinion ONLY. I didn’t mean to offend anyone, except maybe DJ Funk (hehe) but as a professional I’m sure he gets this a lot and deals with it. I sure it soothing when he cashes the check. I am just expressing my opinion.

Peace ALL (even to you DJ Funk)

P.S. Watch out in those malls Columbus.

you people need to drop it with the DJ Funk issues. He was 1 dj. Let's instead talk about how Nightbreed failed you all, and has no concern over you period.

#1. Was there any attempt by them to make the night more comfortable? aka fans??? NO!!

We all, including them knew how hot it was going to be, and they didn't honestly care about your comfort at all.

#2. Were you on the guest list by chance, like many people i heard, and because they were losing thier asses due to lack of turnout, were you DENIED your guest list, and had to pay?? YES!!!!

I heard that Devine & Hertz told security to not let anyone else in on the GL due to not making money. If you're told you're on the GL then FUCKING HONOR IT. I understand losing money, but don't re-nig. It's a chance you take!

#3. If a DJ has a reputation for being complete shit drunk, there's a thing called a CONTRACT the djs sign. Put in a rider that he/she is not allowed to drink until after they play. Several locals are under riders like that. No names mentioned of course ;) Again, lack of caring by the promoters.

Am i the only 1 to see a pattern here?

Looks to me like yet another promotional group only out to make money and not give a fuck about the kids who come out to see the djs and to party, or even PAY their djs for that matter. See Nelson and Tom Sawyer's posts i think on page 23 or 24. Among other djs who won't speak up about it, but there's more than just those 2.

Oh yea. And #4. If you're the promoter, why in the fuck would you put yourselves at headliner slot times?!?!?!??? At least you stuffed yourselves later for this party, then just because you were pissed off at the turnout that you didn't want to play. Next time Nightbreed boi's... Be a little quieter when you talk. Ears are everywhere. You weren't quite quiet about that. If you are "so into the music for the music" and not into JUST making money, then be happy ANYONE showed up. You know?

My 2 cents once again. Parti boi's and girlz, step back and really think about this. You'll see i'm right.

This party was actually orchestrated by a group of cut throat club promoters and owners. Not Nightbreed-not Mike D. Mike Nunery(Mythodic Productions owner) said it himself at the door as he cut off the guest list."This isn't Mike Devine's party anymore." I bet no one was informed of this. Maybe Mike Nunery should have made sure no one was listening. It looks like an effort to eliminate their competition(meaning Nightbreed) they used Nightbreed's name to do damage and profit financially in the long run. If it wasn't Mike Devines party anymore then it must have been Mythodics. Which would make perfect sense as to how everything got so fucked up. There wasn't this much jive about any other Nightbreed events. Just an idea...any takers?
P.S Your complaints are warranted just redirect the anger a little, naw mean?

I don't know Mike Nunnery, but I've heard some bad things about him...can't speak on that though...Does he do the Ritual Parties? Those are fun...

But...Personally, I paid my $25 and did not feel ripped-off, mainly because I went in with low expectations. This is not an attack on the Nightbreed guys. I really don’t like “Raves” because I feel they still encourage the worst element of dance music culture, but that another post. I went to see my favorite DJs and for that I got my money’s worth. Anyway, yes there was A LOT wrong with that party, most of which has been posted. But lets take a look at some of the things – if not done perfectly – they at least attempted to do right…

Security and the doorstaff were bad. I heard many complaints and my experience was less then pleasing. But there were no problems and no one was hurt at the event. And when you boil it down, that’s the point, right? Many parties have no security leaving room for all kind of unpleasant scenarios.

They controlled the parking situation, which is necessary for a safe event. Many people overlook the element.

They had a visible first aid area, which is something I have never seen at an event in this town.

And lastly, to my knowledge, they made every effort to get the proper permits from the city to keep this event completely legal. BRAVO!!!!!!

I feel they made mistakes, but I also feel they are on the right path. Learn from the mistakes, plan the event a little better next time, and maybe take the time to hire an event planner/coordinator to assist in the minor details and I think there’s a good thing going here.

Let’s get some feedback from the promoters…

man im on a short time schedule i cant post what i need to say but the whole game plan got shady when it came to timeslots an guestlists im sorry to say as long as we've been planning for this party it should have been on the dot with perfection. there was enough time to get things in line, the night was still alright. but i have to run hopefully ill be back around tonight to finish off whats needed to stay. - sean

It's funny how people are being chicken shit and creating fake names to post their feelings about Mike and Mythodic regarding this party.

Try growing some balls.

i agree...why are people hiding behind other names. Stop knocking on Nunnery and Mythodic if you can't tell everyone who you really are.

Obviously a lot of people didn't show and money had to be made somehow...no guest list, too bad it happens sometimes...deal w/it! $25 for that lineup is pretty damn decent if you ask me and what the party ran from 9-6 (i wasn't there, but i assume that it went till at least 6-7am).

A 9-hour party w/SOLID DJ talent...damn what a deal for $25!!!!!!

Cheers,

Lesley

well on the funk thing... he samples... that is his music... he uses cds to carry more samples... he will tell you he is not a good dj...

second... fuck a bunch of shit.. . i want to read my personal attacks for myself... i wont even respond... so shoot again glass hopper i know your not skurred....

third... nightbreed you dont check your pm's nor respond to them... so please contact tme about the thing thing that i was contacted about by a certain somebody asking me to present her case to people lookin forward... is that fucking coded enough for you mod?... geezus

all this talk about nunnery is a joke..mike is a great guy with a great goal. he has done MORE events then anyone i can think of..and continues to do it. Dont bring mythodic or mike nunnery into the demise of this event. thats all

I wasn't at this party due to my roommate getting into a very serious car accident. But shit people, I agree with Nelson, he's done this town a pulse revival in the past few years. Tiesto? PVD? Carl Cox? list goes on forever it seems.

As far as the logistics of this party, i can't even begin to comment, as i know nothing and i try and keep it that way. I can't stand the drama and bullshit of the scene, and all the badmouthing when people honestly don't know what they hell they're talking about. So, i keep to myself now and get out and enjoy some events when i can find 10 spare minutes! which isn't often!!!! But Nightbreed have thrown quality events over the past year, and all this bashing of them and Nunnery needs to stop. They all did what they had to do. I know nothing of what went on, as I've been in Canton with my roomie, and friday in Mansfield.

everybody just STOP THE FUCKING MADNESS!

thank you 8(

Ok, this is my two cents on everything that happened at this show. I can honestly say that yes there were alot of mistakes made on this show as a whole. , but by no means does this give anyone the right to point fingers towards myself or anyone else involved in the production of this event. Miscommunication was the biggest fault in this show. That falls on my shoulders and no one but mine. No event can ever be perfect to satisfy everyone. Unfortunately this is the role of a promoter. I guess we can start with the heat discussion. There were prior arrangements made with the maintence crew that was provided by the building owner to bring 5 large industrial fans to the show. This of course never happened as we could all tell. I know, it was roasting in the venue. The maintence crew did provide one ghetto ass fan that I dont even think worked. I formally apologize to everyone for this. It was out of my control. Also, when the sound crew tapped in to the electrical box, they used the a/c system to supply there needs. This in return shut down the a/c in all the offices. So thats the story on the cooling problems for the night. Im sorry for the kid with asthma, trust me I have asthma to. Its really hard to say all the things I feel were done wrong and all the shit that went wrong. Theres so much shit that fell down. To all the locals that were disrespected, I apologize for this. I never intentionally meant for this to happen. I think everyone is missing the big picture of things. I have dedicated the last year of my life to this scene, to everyone involved with it. My intentions have always been to please everyone and sometimes thats just not possible. I try to make it possible but somehow it never works out this way. I truly am sorry to those who were promised something but never recieved what they were promised. All I ever wanted was to help the scene, help the music thrive, and provide what was missing. Ive talked with so many people that tell me how awesome the scene used to be. I here stories of the massive parties that happened and how everyone wishes that the scene were how it used to be. Well, I never got to experience that shit. But the way people talk about it made me want to bring something back to the scene. A chance for revival, a chance to make things the way the stories are told. Thats all I ever wanted was to make a difference, to give hope back that the scenes not dead, and that we can still unite and bring the shit back. I know alot of shit went wrong with this show, it wasnt a typical Nightbreed event by no means. I cant say that anyone was at fault, because no one was. Sometimes you have good shows, sometimes you have bad ones. This party would never happened if it werent for the investors. For the people that did enjoy this event, and werent on the production side of things, to my knowledge it was a fun event, and a sucess for going all night. I got a call on the info line from a kid saying that he had the time of his life, and thatks for giving him this night to release. Isnt that what this is all about? Nightbreed is not shady by any means and has never intended to come off as shady. More work than all of you will ever know has gone into making sure that these events are legal, and go all night. Times are different and will never be the way that Ive heard they were, but ive tried to give something, and it just wasnt enough. Sorry for the disappointment to some of you, but most of all, big thanks to the people that came out to support the hard work put into the show.

shit i had fun playing, even though i didnt get payed. but mike and kelvin if i need sayed they would return the favor by comming to indy and play for me at no charge. so at least they are good people to make that up to me. i know how fucken tough it is to put on shows, the sleepless nights, and loss of apatite that i experienced the week before outlaw. good job. keep it up hope to see more shows from you

Oh the humanity...

Ok...here's my 2 dollars, because 2 cents just isn't enough money to afford to explain what went on with this particular event...and you all know who I am right? My posting name is my DJ name; I don't need to hide...that said...

There's alot of people I'd love to say "fuck you & the horse you rode in on" to, but out of respect for the party scene in general I'll hold my tongue. I should probably just delete this post right now if I knew what was good for me, but I'm getting old and I really don't care anymore. If I read this tomorrow and decide some things should come out, I'll edit it...

Let's start by saying that I've been around pretty much since this sort of thing was introduced here, say '92ish, although alot of people in the industry do not know this or even care. Hell, alot of them weren't around back then. And that's fine, because if I were in it for fame or money trust me I'd have been gone a long time ago. I've actually never made profit on any of my events, and I'm not about to stop hosting them just because of that fact. In this day & age, there are certain ideas that have arisen over the years about where this culture is headed. People get sick of the same old thing, so promoters take it upon themselves to one up each other, to give the public what they demand. In this flux of competition, some very important things get left in the background in order to provide the latest craze. The house is built before the foundation. When this happens, albeit being an honest mistake, last second changes are made to secure the well being of the house, and there are more people involved in this choatic period than just the original promoters, even though 75% of the people do not understand that. Nightbreed is not the first company (nor will they be the last) to do this, so if the biggest complaint you have about the event is whether or not so & so used CD's, or that it was hot (which it was, I definetly agree), or because you lost $20; please refrain from posting. There are bigger fish to fry here...

Issue #1 : Security : Yes security SUCKED. It's pretty bad when you have over $2000 worth of equipment in your hands and these people who know you and know that for 3 parties you have been involved in the preparations & setup of the event and still won't let you in, or out for that matter. Really fucking annoying. So for all of you who had guestlist even though you had nothing to do with the production side of this event and were denied; shut the fuck up, because I didn't even have a fuckin' VIP pass (since mine was sold on the black market, or so I've been told) to carry my equipment in...were you out there Wednesday & Thursday, sweeping that whole fuckin' warehouse, tossing 40+ skids in the dumpster, making sure the physical aspects of the venue were compliant, getting cuts & blisters? Didn't think so. And in Mike Nunnery's defense; he was the only one who let me in & out to do actual work for this event, and I didn't even think he would remember who I was. Thanks Mike / No thanks to you Scott for treating me like dirt under your fingernails even though you knew I was helping out w/ the party...schmuck...:p

Issue #2 : Money :
Twinbabie said:
money had to be made somehow...no guest list, too bad it happens sometimes...deal w/it!
A typical comment coming from the establishment. So your money is the only money that's important? It's one thing to be denied guestlist if you are just some person who knows DJ so & so, but when you are a part of the production, you shouldn't have hassles getting in & out. No, I'm not the king of queens, but I do work closely with Nightbreed and my sound/lighting equipment was in the 4th room; equipment that cost alot of money. I'm not paying $25 admission to break my shit down, bring it 20 minutes across town in a borrowed van, set it up, break it down again, and take it home after all the work I've already put in getting that place ready. I know the investors didn't get all of their money back, and that really sucks, I can sympathize with you trust me...but I didn't get paid a fuckin' cent, and neither did half of the people who were involved with this event, and we almost had to pay to get in. Talk about shady...

On another tip, like I said everyone took a loss at this event. I'm sick of all the pity-anty bitching about $20 here & there, you "local" djs...I've played out-of-state w/o getting paid before and was happy I got booked. Kill the ego or ditch your careers...Thousands of dollars were lost here by more than a few people...gas money is not a priority at this point...sorry...
(BTW just_a_thought_1... who are you exactly?)

Issue #3 : Heat : I came to this party, set up the 4th room, left to sleep & puke for a few hours (since I'm sick w/ a fever), and returned to a sauna. This is a valid complaint. Not safe at all, especially for people ingesting chemicals that make your temperature rise anyway. It could've been a lot worse than one ambulance visit...one of our friends could have died (it's happened plenty of times). It would've been nice to have had A/C, yes. But since there wasn't, guys come on...there were security guards at each and every door...fuckin OPEN 'em! No one's gonna kick the big dude in the shirt's ass to get people in or out...humans need ventilation. I don't think they would've let me out if I was on fire. If you haven't noticed I'm really upset about the security team...

Issue #4 : Columbus' Future : Obviously this event shook the very foundation of what we are collectively attempting to accomplish in this city. The rave scene here has seen rough waters over the past few years, and it's sad to see that after such a strong comeback as of late, one single event seems to have compromised those entire few years' work. Instead of fighting with each other, why can't we band together to fight the REAL reason the scene has been dilapidated (not to mention why it costs so much $ to throw shit these days, with permits and inspections and licenses and fuckin' yadda yadda yadda) in the first place (ie...the media, the powers that be, crooked politicians, right-wing extremists, etc.) Meaning, INDUSTRY HEADS : Don't let good bridges burn simply beacuse of a catastrophic turnout at one event. Yes money does make the world go round, but it is also the root of all evil. Like I said a LOT of people lost money here, not just the big guys or the small guys. I suppose I will catch flack about the contents of this post, but I really don't care at this point. I saw alot of true colors in the past few days, some good, some bad, and I'm not going to take the time to name names. And once again this is only my opinion. But, remember this...It takes more than one person to throw a party, so BLers: don't put all the blame on the figurehead. Shady shit may have gone down, but I know for a fact that Mike D. was not behind all of it. Here is a man that has time & time again put his neck on the line for this scene...don't let one party ruin everything he and everyone else has done. Life goes on, and lessons are learned. I'm not kissing ass by all means, as I also have some $ beef with him right now; I just remember over the past year some of the best parties this area has ever seen, and that says something. Its called Respect, supposedly one of our four utmost standards. Or maybe at this point in time its PLUR...Profit, Lies, Usufruction, & Repression.

Get your heads out of your asses before its too late people...
Nobody will ever be paid if there are no events to play at...

Jere :\

Here we go again..i can say that i PERSONALLY accounted for 4 people coming to the party to see me dj..lets do the math here
4x25 = 100$ and i cant even get 20$ of that so i dont have to PAY OUT OF MY POCKET to goto something like this?
gimme a break..if you cant handle the pressure and the financial responsibilites..dont fucking throw events w/ other peoples $$ (ive learned this the HARD way)

i STILL wish i could've gone to this event to see some of the dj's there. sorry about your loss people. this won't affect the people that are in it for the right reasons. people will always have something to complain about. best wishes with your next endeavor.

I agree, losing money or not. If you made an agreement to pay a DJ you really need to uphold that. Local DJ's have expenses too and why should they have to take a cut just because the promoter is. Promoters are supposed to be the ones taking a cut before DJ's, ecspecially when a prior agreement was made.

I remember this one time in Toledo the promoter really lost his ass, but I was still taken care of and had a nice hotel to sleep in. Got alot of respect for that cat.
