jay,

way to go there, buddy. you brought in 200 people for the most popular stateside dnb dj. i bet that was hard work.

you could put damien in the back of a taco bell on a boombox and he'd still bring a ton of people.

so, since you know how much it costs.. then i'm assuming you have direct knowledge of:

a)the cost of the venue (about double the normal rate since it's nye)
b)the cost of the sound.
c) the cost of the lights. both of which are the best in the area.
d)the fact that a responsible promoter (see : ITG) kicks EVERYONE extra on NYE.

there's a reason people haven't been using the gym club.. it's because they know they won't draw enough people to be able to make their money back.. so you take that cost, then DOUBLE it and consider the risk they took with their budget.. just for the venue alone.

i have a pretty solid knowledge of all of these factors. i've used all the services ITG used (at the friends and family rate), aside from the gym club, but i know exactly how much they charged for this event.

unless you expected ITG to throw a party knowing they were going to lose money - the price was fair.

seriously. if you're going to talk as much shit as you have, at least have something to back it up other than 'i know how much it costs to throw a rave'

i'm done playing in the toybox. you have a nice day. :)

on a fucking wednesday? in a 21+ venue?

blahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahahaha.

seriously?

ferry corsten only drew like 400 on a thursday in the same venue (not my show), and he is someone that most clubbers actually pay attention.

john b didnt even draw 200 on a friday here (not my show).

you talk about playing in a toy box as though it is derogatory, yet you are defending *aesthetic* costs of an event.

im sure this party would have been well worth $20 if i was looking to shove about four pills of e up my ass and pretend it is 1999 again. i havent been up for that since about 2002, so i couldn't see any reason to spend $20 + gas.

anyway, OMG, so sorry to say something ...

I am so over hearing your pansy asses arguing!!! It's ridiculous... so you think the party was overrated... that's your fucking opinion... For pete's sake... I went.. I don't do drugs and I had a blast!!! It was heaven to be back in the Gym Club... and alot of people went just because it was a DGC ... so booo hoo cause you didn't decide to book it first!!! It's funny to see how tough people are on the net but yet don't actually have the balls to do anything about it! If JAy_P can throw a "Better" party then do so and prove it!!! I mean bring it back the way it used to be and quit with the pussy bullshit!

Anyway thanks to ITG for a great new years !!! I missed the gym club and it was nice to be back! I have a lot of free time coming up so you will see me out more... and if anyone needs help with anything at the parties... passin out flyers... taking pics... etc.. just let me know

that's HAWT.

$20 bucks isn't that bad. I mean, people in town at lulu's had to pay $20 just to hear me dj all night. lol but they did get some buffet and a half glass of cheap champagne.

The pictures explain it all it looks like Light Bright fucked all the Care Bears and they had like about 300 hundred kids in Dayton. Not worth the drive to see all the locals. Who play just about regularly in every club or any other event that surfaces anywhere near the tri state area. Oh and the Tri state love name 3 dj's from IN and like 4 from Kentucky where's the love? Ohio was the venue sight I know but come on. Oh I know the vote thing. Where was the voting announced not here I don't think. I don't think I saw it on the trash either. But I didn't go guess it makes me a hater. Maybe if there was an actual headliner.

if you were only wearing a thong then that price is quite fair, imo.

Not that I myself have anything against him but Jay-P's "events" are all thrown in a bar, the same bar he has been doing stuff at for a couple years, so he probably doesn't know "what it cost to throw a rave." Just what it cost him to throw a club event and bring one headliner and a bunch of DJs from Indy that play for free beer!

i had a wonderful time... pics (forgive the quality, its a brand new camera and i was using the opportunity to mess around with it) are here and one of the short vids i took is here

i loved bennet's set, and trevor lamont kicked ass as well. you dont need a headliner to have a good party...

my only complaint was the lack of oxygen in the basement, i wanted to spend more time there, but i couldnt really breathe...

a. i did a weekly for 2.5 years @ the melody inn ... one of the most respected music venues in indianapolis. my night was a continuation of something started in 1999.

b. the last RAVE i threw was in April 2005 in Bloomington, IN in an abandoned retail space that used to be the Hot Spot w/ Reid Speed, Annalyze, and Submerge 101 and a host of regional talent, log2 did sound for one room, and the other was done by a friend that is a sound engineer by trade, lights and lasers by log2, video by benji ramsey .... you might remember it ... No Laughing Matter. 400 kids that danced their sweaty asses off until 6 am. $15 / $10 w/ school ID (in a major college town).

ps ... i would have broke even if i had not been extorted for additional money by the venue owner after the show.

but yea, i know nothing of how to throw a rave on a tight budget for a low cost.

regardless of what i myself have done in the past, this is still a whack situation.

but i am glad to know that i will be able to rip everyone off in the future w/out much complaint.

It actually started in 1998 - it began with Tim Krochalk, Matt Aiden and Me. We got the Melody Inn, bc my girlfriend at the time (now x-wife) work for 'Gary' - a real pig- then Gary sold it to the current owner, Rob. We kept up the weekly for 77 weeks - featured in Mixer magazine for a year of it or so.

But you sound a lot like Geekster -- THE ONLY DIFFERENCE i see is that at least Geekster has intelligent argumentative rhetoric. A person I have grown to respect. (just don't tell him I said that :)

For real though Jay-P Gold --- you get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar ------------- or... more ravers with candy ......

Back to the theme of this thread --- The party rocked. I really enjoyed what Nauti was saying over the PA. My legs still are sore today - - -

My only NEGATIVE was that there was No naked guy. Oh well..... maybe next time.

Jay-P = Geekster

I thought he sounded familiar, too.....this is all the same stuff I have read about every In the Groove event we have ever done and promoted for here on BL since he got here. Not sure how what we do affects him or why he really cares since all the ravers are so dumb to him anyway.....but whatever. I'm not going to change his mind and he's not going to stop talking smack as long as this continues......so as I have offered to you before, Geek....if you have something constructive to offer, contact us....otherwise leave us to ours, since we leave you to yours. I don't want to talk shit about you or your events because I have nothing to judge on them. I don't care if you pull 20 or 2000 people on whatever night you do whatever it is that you do because it doesn't affect me. If you are over there making oodles of cash doing it...GOOD FOR YOU, so long as it is what the people you cater to want to see & hear when they come to your events. I just don't understand why anything we do, especially since you wouldn't attend one of our shows regardless of what caliber of talent we bring, has anything to do with you or why you feel the need to say anything about it, especially when in the end.....those that attended our party had a good time and the only people that had anything bad to say about it are those that didn't come.

In the end, without this scene...I have a very dependable and lucrative career. I don't need to make money off the scene....we do our shows because we like what we do, which is why I assume you do yours as well, since you made the comment you try to do your shows for less, which is commendable. The truth remains, though...whether you want to believe it or not...that we did everything we did with integrity, and although I am pretty disturbed that you (or anyone) would think we would masquerade a benefit as a way to rip money off the scene, at this point I could really care less about what you think. We built our show around a particular break-even number that we thought was feasible at a certain door price given the budget we had. That budget didn't allow for a headliner this time. Sorry we disappointed you.

The show is over, nothing can be changed now...talk all the shit you want, man...I'm over it... I'll see you in the spring when you start talking smack about our boat party lineups and how it's such a ripoff because it's going to be [sarcasm]a collection of local talentless hacks posing as DJ's[/end-sarcasm], as usual.

took you guys long enough.

i think this is the first time i have ever called an ITG show a ripoff.... i could be wrong.

in the past, my complaints about ITG have been limited to the nonpayment for sound services rendered on last minute notice.

i even got banned from bluelight for asking for it this fall.
