Hey hit me up with some digits and I'll call you to confirm this
in about an hour. It sounds good to me...............

PE@CE LOVE,
Pharmy

P.h.D. Prod.

wanted to first off say thanks to Nautikat for doing this event and bringing so many women together and then I wanted tosay thanks to P58 for addressing a tough topic in a direct way, though I didn't need the graphic! ;)

I think maybe I was just not seeing what p58 and others (including my boyfriend when I talked to him about this post) see in this flyer. In any case, in the other post by p58, you said not to sell ourselves short.

In all fairness DJ's see the flyer till after they are booked legally bound to play in most cases. It goes without saying that DJ's don't design flyers and are reticent to bail on a show to which they have promised to come and are legally obligated to play.

As a result: If there are reasonable criticisms to be dealt out, it seems like the shank of them should not be aimed at the ladies who have little influence (and in many cases-- probably all but me) zero contractual protection that would relieve them of duties at liberty if the promotional materials were derrogatory.

I know that Nauti doesn't want this to be a negative flyer. If the discourse in specific relation to this flyer makes her and other promoters/ desginers become more conscious and join that larger discourse, then this can be a good thing ultimately.

I'm glad to see this discussion being brought to the table by p58. I'm also glad to be playing this event. I'd love to hear other peoples reactions to the flyer and to the topic in general.

jesus.. beyond the whole "objectifying women" debate, even if you threw that out of the window, it's just a horrible, tasteless flyer. just on class alone this gets the gas face.

on the subject matter at hand, tho, i'm always one for using something to get something... that's with ANYthing in life.... if you're black, and you get a good job because of it... so be it... if you're a woman, and a boss hires you b-c he thinks he might get some tang... so be it... use WHATEVER SKILLS it takes to get you to where YOU need to be.... so long as you got the skills to back that shit up....

if Portia Surreal flashed her titties, but could scratch with her clit, bang it out with 3 turntables and some CDJs ala James Zabiela, and made fat tracks, then no one could really hate... and the only people who WOULD hate are the people who were just truckin' along with no advancement and nothing inherently special about them, so they are upset b-c there's something in place that is BIGGER than them that is disrupting their status quo... people with true talent and drive and ambition live up to challenges.. and that includes challenges presented by non-Djing sex kittens like Portia Surreal, Dj Mea, and their ilk... it's for this reason that i got alot of respect for you, L4S, b-c, despite the male-dominated scene's incessent need to book ass & titties over beats and skills, you press on, and get farther because of it...

but it's the people who get the gigs -- or jobs or scholarships or admittence to IVY league universities or whatever -- IN LIEU OF their qualifications that cause the problems... in this case, tho, even if L4S was shaken her ass and flashin' her titties at her gigs, she'd still represent on the 1s and 2s.... so by all means, do what you gotta do... and when the haters hate... "brush da' haterz off... brush da' haters off..."

on the flip, a note to designers...

it's just as "sexy" to have a woman on the flyer RECEIVING pleasure as it is to see them GIVING pleasure (the sucking cock flyer of this party) ...

and it's also just as sexy and naughty to see a man on the leash held by a woman as it is vice versa (ala the SAINTS AND SINNERS party in L'ville)....

No, that one has a priest with a woman on a leash. But what we are saying is that the (male) religious culture is not all that it seems to be and there are undercurrents of domination of women and general freakiness. The flyer is a critique and a joke. But I get where you are coming from for sure. It's not the typical sexy raver chick flyer by any means. We are going fo a lot more.

p58's flyer is disgusting... i nearly vomited on my desk... too bad this is his interpretation of this flyer.

the artist could have made that point by having a nun with one
leg exposed to reveal naughty undergarments with a half
naked man on the leash...

see what i'm saying?

altho' the INTENT is definitely not misogynistic,
the image inherently is, b-c there is a woman-as-dominant
image the designer could have used instead... but instead,
the designer's mind instantly went to an image of a priest
and a half naked woman...

if a designer is REALLY concerned with how their imagery
reflects on a particular issue, they have to balance their
intent and their image content...

i mean, ultimately, it's the designer's concept and fuck all
if you don't approve... but, there are always alternatives
that can be just as scandalous, get the point across, and
doesn't teeter on the side of "degrading"...

(altho, even in my nun example, i'm sure someone would
bitch)

The point was to slam the priest because there is a whole power structure thing going on there (women not being allowed to hold the office of the priesthood etc) that wouldn't have been able to be done with a nun. Plus with a nun we would have risked pushing more of the agenda we've already talked about. It's a tough balance for sure, especially when you're doing a very hedonistic event like this one where you WILL see men on leashes. There's going to be a huge range of people here tonight from drag queens to BDSM folks to goth kids to ravers. But I digress... don't want to hijack this thread for sure. In any case, like I said, this is a great topic!!!

Wow.. you all have very good points... as for me I would still be going to this event whether I saw the flier or not. I know whos on the line-up and there is a lot of GOOD talant on it... now if I were to get to this event and it was full of nothin but drag queens..Id probobly not stay all night,. but my point is that a flier is not gonna detour me, on the other hand I think the chic on the flier is hot, but even if the chic on the flier was "not so pretty" Id still go, and thats coming from a straight female.

Yes it is Wendi. I agree with you. But what P58 is failing to tell you here, is his girlfriend Graviton Girl played at my first Divalicious party that was held in Mansfield, OH earlier this spring. If he's so against the idea of an all female lineup, then why did he allow his gf to play at mine?????

2nd note.. I know all of these girls, and they are all considered friends of mine. Some i know better than others, but all of these girls are class acts on and off the decks.

This party is more about friends of mine, all getting together and having a good time supporting each other on the decks. I'm doing this entire line up for $5. If i was trying to make money off this, or capitalize on the "sex sells" theory, this party would have been more like $10 a head, and i'd have told all the girls to dress sexy, etc. I can honestly say, that all these girls will tell you i have NEVER told them what to wear, how to act for this party, as i don't seem to see the light that P58 seems to be trying to stir up. All the djs really dig this flyer, it's eye-catching but still respectful. Not 1 dj has told me that felt disrespected by it.

So, in closing, thx p58 for your disgusting rendition of the flyer, cuz you've made my party even more talked about now!!!!! Thanks for the free publicitiy you've given me!

Final note.. Only 20 days to go!!!!!!! =D

oh

my

i've been PWNED!!!111!!! o NOES!!!111!!

serios bissness.

:p

ha!

Too all the dumb bitches that can't see my point, fuck you for being ignorant. I was not attacking this party or the talent whatsoever...

Don't people want to have a thought provoking and intelligent debate about the standards that we need to set for the subculture that we perpetuate? Mainstream commercialism uses sex to sell products. I thought that the electronic music culture inovated it's own form of "commercialism"...the flyer... using thought-provoking, artistic, yet TASTEFUL interpretations of what the party and our lives represent. Don't you think you deserve better than this?? Don't you think our music deserves better than this?

I hear more people talking shit than anything; why don't people start speaking their minds about the issues and not other people. Quit worrying about self image and politics; Say what you mean and mean what you say regardless.

It's things like this that are crumbling the "underground".... and forcing it into a club where our music and our djs aren't fucking appreciated....

If you don't voice your beliefs, you have nothing to believe in. This applys to all issues....not just the one I stirred up. I thought this scene was about unity and respect....

I guess not.

what are you going on about.

the past 2 pages have been very respectful
and people speaking their mind... AND minding
what they speak...

so

what's yer issue?

besides that you CLAIM a sense of unity and respect
and you call everyone dumb ignorant bitches for not
agreeing with you whole-heartedly.

so if that's your idea of PLUR, i'm glad the gov't
shut it down... 'cuz i can do without that load
of hypocritical bullshit.

oh the drama that always comes out with an event like this. i don't understand it really. it's just a bunch of females getting together to do something they love... play some freakin records. i don't know everyone on the line up .. but those i do know, could care less about getting up there and selling their bodies, it is purely about the music and the vibe they hope to create. anyways... blah blah. i'm looking forward to playing at this event!!!!
