plug another usb device into the usb port u had the dvd writer in. If that fails, you know it's the port. Otherwise...

i have an external USB DVD writer. its a pioneer model of some sort, and its actually an internal model that has been put into this box/housing thing that makes it work externally. (i'll find the online details in a sec and post em, so you know what im on about)
anyway, yesterday it stopped working, (im running windows XP) and i started getting messages whenever i plug it in that say "USB device not recognised/maybe not working properly" - something to that effect.
BUT
it DOES work on my girlfriends computer (also win XP)
im no where near what i used to be with computers so i really dont know what im doing or what could be wrong.
please help!
I'm in Melb and i certainly can. I have just PMed someone all the details, so hopefully they will send them back, so i can post them.che_melbourne said:shorza.... how on earth... i thought they stopped ppl from being able to do that by encoding the signal differently or sumthing like that... what city u live in coz in melb i thought u couldnt do it anymore
