Official Paedo Discussion Megathread v2

sex sells. I dont think its a coincidence that most pop stars, both male and female are extremely sexually attractive. School boys of my generation were completely spolied for choice when it came to sexy female pop stars, we had Madonna first and foremost, she was a knockout in the 80s, Wendy James of Transvison Vamp and the way she rolled her hips i can still remember more than 20 years later, susanah hoffs of the bangles etc etc, ad infinitum.

that's for sure . I forced myself to watch 4 music yesterday and I don't know if it's coz I'm old or what but the videos and lyrics of the songs have certainly become more sexual and scantily clad than they were in the 80s. these videos and pop music are not aimed at elderly folk like me.

The R & B videos are extremely sexualised and i think you are right that they are more so than things were in the 80s. But there was plenty of scantily clad sexy stuff in the 80s too; ZZTops videos, robert palmers videos, Fuzzbox, Sinita, the primitives, loads more i cant remember.

Elderly ? Give over, your hardly 75 or something are you ?

Watkins will so blatantly commit suicide he is a pussy, 2 punishments for Pedo's i think should be acceptable. Nerve end torture or just feed them shit loads of benzo's cold turkey them and let them die a horrific death.

Yes i might seem a little reactionary, but i just view them as the cancer of the Human race they have no place in society and should be nailed out.

You forget Bucks fizz in their leather period.

has anyone read the details of the Watkins case? It's probably even worse than I thought.

agreed, that little detail made me feel particularly ill.

Suprised more people in the music scene haven't spoken out against him. Bands that toured with lostprophets, etc, you would have thought there would have been loads said.

I've not read all this but I'm betting I don't have to, I despair at the hysteria there is around child sex abuse. In a society where many children need more positive male role models and male influence the current paranoia that almost any man who takes an interest in children must be an abuser is very dangerous.

It is impossible to genuinely assess numbers but personally I doubt there is any more abuse going on today than there has ever been and the majority is still carried out by family members or those known to the victim.

I have children so of course I am wary of such things but at the same time I don't want them to start fearing anyone and everyone, the world over the vast majority of people are good and kind and the majority of men would protect and care for women and children but increasingly fear to do so.

Glad to have your input Allein, as I often wonder whether I'd think differently if I had children.

You're absolutely right about the importance of positive male role models and male influences. I dread to think of what effect this hysteria will eventually have in that regard.

I don't subscribe to the fodder we are few by the media that all our children are in immediate danger of being abducted and abused, I'd be more inclined to think in our more open society there is less opportunity for abusers to commit their heinous crimes.

I try to keep my children safe and only recently had a talk to my 10 year old daughter after she got separated from us briefly in London, she's no fool and did the right thing and a very nice couple had already seen her get separated from us on the tube and the gut was looking out for her.

I think we still fear to talk openly about the issue and that's probably because in most cases it's people known to the family that commit the crime, it's easier to blame the faceless stranger.

I don't think for one moment that child sex abuse is more common now than it has been before. Even going back just a century or so child prostitution was essentially illegal in theory only, or go back a couple/three decades or so here and see how casually jokes were made about young girls and "development" - was all there it was just either swept under the carpet, ignored, or almost seen as a bit of a bonus - if you can get away with it then good luck to ya. Is how I remember attitudes when I were of paedoprey age anyway.

Give it time. I'm sure many of them didn't want to fall foul of the law.

I'm sure virtually all of 'em want to keep the whole subject of what goes on with fans and groupies out of the headlines really. I'm sure that this particular fella is somewhat extreme (to say the least) but I kinda doubt many rawk bands' sex lives with fans/groupies would look too good if written up tabloid stylee. Admittedly the inclusion of babies does make it all that much more revolting (can hardly claim that the baby was dressed provocatively and would easy pass for legal in a dingy dressing room).

Public opinion or more accurately the media outcry has changed massively over the last 5 years or so in particular. In my youth if an older teenager was to have some kind of relationship with a younger teenager, they would have been refered to as a 'cradle snatcher' or some more crude remarks, but nothing much more than that was made of it, and there was never anything like this level of hysteria. But then again it is true that over the last 5 years or so there have been far more extremely high profile cases of some extremely sick behaviour. The tabloids currently seem hellbent on uncovering anything remotely related to the subject, like that thing in the daily fail yesterday about some diplomat keeping 'obscene diaries' 45 years ago. It wasnt news then, why is it news now ?

I think this creep Jamie Reynolds deserves a dishonourable mention in dispatches. Conned a 17 year old into taking some modelling photos, got her to simulate a hanging, then kicked the stool away and took photos as she died, probably flicking it off with his other hand. Then shagged the corpse up the arse.

It makes old Pete Sutters and his silk-lined v-neck sound positively quaint.

An old ex copper my parents knew said it happened more back in the day, but it just wasn't reported as much (news-wise)

I think it has allways been a taboo or touchy subject but all perspective is being lost now. Im not saying the Watkins case isnt horrific, but there does seem to be an increase in cases like this, and its not just that they are being reported more, but that is happening too.

The main reason it seems to be on the increase is the disproportionate coverage it receives.

If it's not reported, you don't know about it. Ergo, it 'hasn't happened' as far as you're concerned.

It's actually interesting to ponder whether the media fetish around this whole business has actually brought it to the attention of people who seek 'extreme' sexual experiences, and thus created more child sex abuse in the process.

I'd imagine the child porn market has boomed as a result of it. Forbidden fruit...
