braz just scored :(
dont look like australia is doing well enough to get a goal

geez we concede a goal to a guy named FRED

oh well, a draw against croatia should still see us through (although i am very concerned that brazil will field a 2nd string side against japan which might even see them qualify unfairly via the back door...)

I take my words back. Brazil was so bad, unbelievable. Only the last 15 minutes they were the better team, before that I really saw the Aussies scoring the equaliser, alas. Both sides have gotten some BIG chances to score goals, too bad those didn't went in.

Brazil won't win another cup if they keep playing like this. At least I don't hope so.

I saw Guus took big risks by starting with only 3 real defenders, he took an even bigger risk by taking another out to replace him with an attacker. But that's the way you gotta play against a team which you are probably bound to loose from, take risks.

no slagging this time around...

despite the result i thought this was a much better effort than the japan match. only a few mistakes, decent passing, some one two action. such a shame they couldn't keep it together and had that defensive lapse early in the second half, however i'm impressed by how they didn't crumble and took it to brazil for the next ten minutes after going one down.

result should have been 2-2. i'll forgive kewell for that opportunity as he had barely just come on, but bresciano once again screwed up a sure thing by taking a few extra touches than needed.

if only it had happened on-air
TV star in punch-up at football celebration
By Josh Massoud

From: The Daily Telegraph

TV PERSONALITY Sam Newman was rushed from a World Cup party on the eve of Australia's clash with Brazil after punching a male fan in the face.
In Germany for last night's Footy Show World Cup special, the controversial Channel 9 star lashed out in front of network chief executive Eddie McGuire and 2500 Australian fans.

The scuffle broke out at Munich's famed Lowenbraukeller beer hall about an hour into a Brazilian samba party held to celebrate the Socceroos' game against the world champions.

Witnesses said Newman was roundly abused and possibly spat upon before retaliating with a punch.

A sometimes vocal critic of the round ball game, Newman enraged some at the party after arriving in a Socceroos jersey with Nine CEO Eddie McGuire and co-hosts Gary Lyon, Paul Vautin and Matty Johns - famed for Reg Reagan's catchphrase "Bring back the biff".

Tensions rose from catcalls such as "Get off the bandwagon" to the confrontation that ended with Lyon ushering Newman from the beer hall.

The victim, believed to be in his 40s, refused to comment.

But his close friend Adrian Sanchez Vallejo said Newman snapped after "failing to accept or respect the views of the Australian people".

"He was copping abuse from everyone - people were telling him, 'Get outta here you ignorant pig'," he said.

"The punch he threw was a cheap shot, it drew blood."

One tour organiser said fans had treated Newman and Nine crew members "appallingly", saying: "It's my understanding that Sam was spat upon."

Berta Aguayo, of Cecil Hills, said McGuire was apologetic to fans about the incident.

in regards to the Newman thing, they actually televised it on they show last night...

and fair, Newman is a fuckwit, to the inth degree, BUT, you dont have to tell him that, im sure he fuckin knows it, and to walk up to someone and go "Your a fuckwit Sam Newman, get the fuck out of here *SPIT*" its just fuckin disgraceful. The fuckwit deserved the punch in the face, and he should be happy Newman didnt break his nose, and it was basically just a push punch, not a knock out blow...

Well, the game of course was disapointing when you look at the final score, but was a great game to watch, till the 89th sealer to a guy named Fred...

I think our outside midfielders played a decent game, always having space on the sides and getting back when required...

i know our grouch about the man heaps, but Viduka just doesnt seem to have the confidence to just have a crack at it. There were a few oppurtunies where he could of just cracked it, i dont care if you miss the target, just fuckin have it... But he layed it off to Culina, or Bresciano...

For once, i was impressed with Emertons game, hopefully he will run rings around the croatain team, His work with Culina was also good...

Lucus Neill couldnt of played a better game, he was very composed in the back, and never seemed troubled... always getting the tackles timed right, and the clearances spot on...

Harry injection was great, unfortuntaly he didnt score, but was causing all types of trouble in the back for brazil.

When you look at the stats, the fouls go against Australia 25-9... Now, there is trying to erase dirtyness out of the game, and then there is just blaintent fuckin ill rupute to the game, and it just seemed everytime you touch a brazilian player, he his the deck like a cripple wihtout a wheelchair. The Ref in the second half was just ughh, words dont describe how frustrating it was...

In conjunction with the croatain game... I think we can easily get a draw out of them, after watching them play Japan, they just lacked fire, when they got the chance, they took it, but it just didnt seem to come enuf for them... With Robert Kovac missing the next game also, it should hopefully put some pressure on the Croatian backline

For us, we havent lost any players to yellow cards which is good, We really couldnt afford Neill or Moore... But now with Bresciano and Emerton, assuming Guus wont hold back against Croatia (well, we KNOW he wont) do we risk these 2???

O well, at least i got today off :D

Ehh, Kewell missed 2 or 3 big chances too, if you're blaming Bresciano, blame Kewell as well.

Speaking of cards, I don't know who it was who made that foul in the first half on Ronaldo, but they were lucky there wasn't a card given, it deserved a red one, fucking dirty. Almost as dirty as de Rossi's elbow.

It was Vince Grella...

which would of put him out of the game against Croatia no matter what the colour

it was late, and high and bad... correct there...

o yeah, and do we suspect that Tony Popovic's campaign is over?

I missed the fucking game. :(
I stayed awake until 10:20pm, set my alarm, fell asleep, then the next thing I remember is waking up to the Korean game. :(

Fuck it. :X

I don't know what the fuck Popovic was doing on the field in the first place... he is just that little bit too old and slow now... There were better options...

When Harry missed that beautiful chance, and when Bresc fucked up his one, or when Grella had a crack after Viduka again refused to have a crack, I was screaming at the screen saying fuck if only Aloisi was there, he would have NAILED it!! I don't know why Aloisi isn't playing from the start of the game. Kewell and Viduka can be absolute game-breakers for us, but they just don't seem like scoring. Well to be fair, Harry has had a couple of good cracks, that haven't quite got there, but as said above, Viduka really needs to start taking some shots!!

More Aloisi!!

CB :)

I think the boys played exceptionally well. Totally made up for the disappointment of the cro's shithouse play, despite the results.
IF this playing trend continues, australia will completely own the croats.

i agree, the spitting was too much, though i think it's cool that the australian supporters gave the wankers hell for "jumping on the bandwagon".

fair enough, but i was talking about the sure thing ops kewell and bresciano missed.

I was sitting about three rows back on the side near the corner where Kewell missed his chance. People are giving him too much stick I reckon. What I saw was Dida making this huge ground and you could almost see Kewell rush to avoid the keeper saving it. The more disappointing one was when Bresciano messed up a one-v-one on the keeper. It was amazing seeing a 6 foot 4 inch Kaka just gracefully glide around players from up close.

Considering the players who were coming in with injuries and luck of form, I can´t remember the last time Australia played so well. Amazingly Brett Emerton had his best game ever in a real match. Lucas Neil has been amazing, easily Australia´s best so far.

I am hoping that we play with two forwards for the Crotia game, we have an opportunity to score goals as Croatia pour forward knowing that they must win. It´s going to be a cracking game, just a pity that the Stuttgard stadium has a massive running track around it.

I'm looking forward to that game. Really have no idea how it will go. Aussies have a good chance of going through, which really surprises me - I thought you'd be battling it out with Japan to avoid last place. Good luck :)

I love the Fifa Fever show which was just on, particularly the ten best goals bit....man, some of them almost made me yell out loud they were so frigging good!
:D
mmmm.....I think I might be sleeping early and setting my alarm for this one!
:)
