I used to back the Netherlans every world cup because we weren't there. My opinion changed once 'Horse-Head' Van Nisterooy started played for the scum. I loved the Dutch team of '98, just oozed class on every part of the pitch. This may be Edgar Davids last tournament and he has been such an important person to the Dutch over the last decade. There is barely a player out there who has the same drive and determination as him, let alone in the Netherlands.

Did you see the article on Guus Hiddink in the Good Weekend (The Age) a couple of weeks ago? There was some interesting analysis in that piece about the Dutch national team and why they tend to do poorly on the international stage.

Specifically, that they care more about playing "beautiful" football than actually winning.

:\

...and what's wrong with Van Nistelrooy? Arrogant fucker but he puts them away fairly well.

i'm another netherlands supporter in absentia of the socceroos. would love to be able to say this is finally going to be their tournament however i think it's going to be the same old story.. they certainly have the talent to go all the way in robben, van persie, van nistelrooy and van der vaart but the new crop seem to be troubled by even bigger egos and worse temperaments than earlier dutch sides. hoping to see a lot of van persie in attack, wenger's policy of keeping him on the bench is hard to fathom given his goals-to-minutes-played ratio and intricate skills with the ball at his feet. expect van nistelrooy to be near the top of the goal charts: his temperament is robust enough to overcome his club hassles, and he always performs on the big stage. i predict another beautiful flop by the lads in orange.

i will of course be backing the socceroos all the way and expect them to at least make the later rounds despite their tough group. man-management will be key both to control the giant egos of some of the more established players and the aussie tendency to under-rate themselves and play far more cautiously than they should. viduka's been in decent form for boro and hopefully hiddink will use him to his full potential rather than taking the more workhorse option of aloisi. would love to see him paired with kewell with cahill as the playmaker.

come on roos =D

You FUCKIN RIPPER

I just got off the phone from one of my best mates.

He made the team.

He is going to Germany to play for the Socceroos.

OMG, this is fuckin huge for him and all of us.

I coached him for three years and we have been best of mates ever since.

Words cannot describe how fuckin over the moon happy I am for him.

Im not allowed to say anything else till tomorrow after its announced on SBS at 11.00am.

Yeeehaaaa

congrats Millsy...

For a bloke that was only able to play 10 games this year in the a-league, and a few rep games in the under 23's over in Vietnam, you have done fuckin great...

Its going to be great sitting up on the early hours of the morning, watching you play mate!!!

No other real suprises in the team. Michael Beauchamp played great in the a-leauge and also the socceroos games he got to play in he deserved his spot also.

BRING ON JAPAN!!!

^ Great to hear your friend is in the World Cup squad. What an amazing honour!

Just watched the entire Sevile v Boro match (4-0) and poor old Shwartz was in the firing line all game. McLaren is a poor manager. Don't let those two get of jail free cards fool you, because if his idea of good management is to conceed goals and then put on four strikers to win the game then I'm sorry to say that England will be screwed over in the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Mark Viduka did his best in the circumstances and was unlucky on a couple of occassions. On another night that penalty call might have been given and his well struck shot on goal would have been buried in the roof of the net.

Oh and today marks just 4 weeks to go until departure!

it was rather funny to find out that Mark is getting married before he leaves, even though none of us have nothing to do with it

maybe coz he isnt, and the person they suspected him to get married to is his fuckin mother!!!

go team fox sports!!!

RE: UEFA Cup Final

It was interesting to hear the comments at half time by (I think) Tim Vickery for SBS about how obvious it was the gulf between English and Spanish football and why he thinks La Liga is the best division in the world.

Boro certainly didn't deserve to lose by such a big margin but they were outclassed all over the pitch.

If you woke up early to watch that, than you should be hanging out for next Thursday's juicy Champions League Final... Arsenal v Barcelona. :)

Kewell gets injured again farken! Benitez reckons it'll be only a couple of weeks which rules him out for at least the Greece game. But I hold grave concerns about our campaign if he will be going in unfit. Australia just doesn't have a creative backup.

Watched the awesome FA Cup final last night..

Liverpool and West Ham United.

Everyone I was sitting with, through the haze of red wine, predicted West Ham to be destroyed.

We even got out the Gamecube and played matches of West Ham VS Liverpool before it started and the best result anyone playing West Ham could come up with was a toughly fought draw. (we are scientific like that... with our experiments).

Wow what an awesome game, one of the most dramatic that I have seen... ever.

West Ham were leading 2-0 to begin with when Liverpool came fighting back.
Final score was 3 to 3.

Every goal that West Ham scored looked to be a messy accident with perfect consequences. Their third was -what we all thought - a bungled cross that just happened to miss it's intended target and land spectacularly in the top right corner of the net.

Some fantastic goals by Liverpool. Their first goal of the night being a total jaw dropping mistake own goal into their own net... another one with Cisse (white devil) doing a falling unbalanced scissor kick horizontally in the air and their final one - the equalizer - coming from Gerrard in the 90th minute from what seemed like the halfway point.

Extra time couldn't finish it off and it came down to a 4:2 penalty, Liverpool's favour.

The poor West Ham striker who missed the final key shot looked like he needed some intense therapy and meds.

Great Game.

Bring on World Cup! (After Champions League final.... Arsenal FTW!)

I watched the FA cup live. Fucking hell, i thought the reds have lost it until gerrad blasted the ball from the middle of the enemy territory. HOLY FUCKING CHRIST. That guy is a fucking machine, 2 goals and 1 assist, liverpool might as well just play him vs the team.

im not one to watch every game of soccer, so i cant comment on good goals

but if those 2 goals by Gerrard dont fuckin go down in the top 10 goals in FA cup history, there is major issues, espically the one in the 90th minute

that was just fuckin bullshit!!!

Can't wait for the Cup.....Australia qualifing for it was up there with my best sporting moments ever in my lifetime, and it was the best of 2005 for sure (even better than the Swans winning the GF in the AFL)...

I'll be watching whenever i can...and yes i think i'll be up at 2am watching, even tho i'll have to start work 7hrs later.... :)

Argentina have a fucked up group...so if we go home on the first round i will support Australia!

FA Cup Final was brilliant... absolutely mad game. Konchesky's cross which ended up over Reina's head in the net was hilarious.... was an amazing game which really didn't deserve to be decided on penalties.

I feel for Alan Pardew's men... it was only a few years ago that West Ham were the easybeat's of the top division.

Hopefully Gerrard can produce some of that form again in Germany.

I've had some money on the Aussies to win the whole thing. IF they do, I'll pocket 800 bucks. If they don't ..... well, nobody's going to be surprised are they?

yeah odds are at 80 to1 here. so my £5 willl net me a cool £400 if we lift the cup. havent checked the odds yet but i might put a fiver on cahill to score in the 5th min against brazil. think ill buy an island with them winnings.
