Off Topic Thread Vs: I like chocolate, I like fudge, I'll make some now or I won't...

Has anyone else wondered if perhaps there is a god, and he's just a massive cunt? Here are some principles that don't make sense but you must follow them, even though there is a serious lack of evidence that I exist? And then you die and everyone reasonable that disregarded all the god bullshit goes to eternal torment in hell and every annoying twat that believed in god and hated homosexuals despite common sense actually went to heaven? And presumably in hell there are big screen tvs with a live feed of Sarah Palin and so on in heaven.

When my 4 year old asked me if I thought we came from monkeys and dinosaurs or God on the weekend I told him no one really knows but if I had to guess I'd say monkeys. He was sure it was God.

I took a swig of beer and said that I don't think any one truely knows but I sure as hell know I created him. That shut him up for a year or so.

I agree....I actually thought this was the best X-Men movie yet, but it did not escape my notice that all the real heroes of the piece were white men.

Darwin dying the way he did was ridiculous given that his whole power is to be unkillable. Angel Salvadore (fly girl) defects the first chance she gets. Mystique defects. Emma is evil. Moira is indirectly responsible for crippling Charles (when she finally reappears after having been a non-entity for most of the second part of the movie anyway). Of the bad guys, Riptide is Hispanic and Azazel in the comics is Nightcrawler's father and pretty clearly not a whitey.

Also interesting, Moira MacTaggert in the comics is Scottish and Banshee is Irish - neither of these things seemed to be true in the movie. Sebastian Shaw is an American guy who they turned into a nazi for the movie. So we have non-American characters being turned into Americans because they're heroes, and an American character being turned into a non-American because he's a villain.

All of these things taken as isolated occurrences aren't really a big deal in and of themselves, but together it makes a pretty compelling case for really poor racial/gender politics (also there ain't no queers, but really we don't exist in Hollywood unless we're Julia Roberts' sassy best friend or in some kind of Profound Coming Out/AIDS Tragedy so that doesn't surprise me in the slightest)...

Aside from all the above, I think it was a really clever film and I would happily see it again...it's just a shame that when making a movie about characters who are a metaphor for social justice issues, the politics are so sucky... :P

^ Meh, it's over rated. Too antisocial IMHO. Been there, done that, next please! :D

Yeah I would wanna just be a part-time stoner...I wouldn't like it all the time for the reasons I don't like it now anyway lol

In other news....fuck me it seriously took me like half an hour to figure out how to add the spoiler tags to a post. I turn 35 and suddenly I can't fucking internet anymore. :p

After last nights 60's, 70's and 80's themed disco..i honestly believe i was meant to be born back in the psychedelic 60's..

Loved it!

I wish weed didn't make me incredibly anxious. I am very envious of people who get all relaxed and happy

I was like that for the first three years of smokin buds on a daily basis, then anxiety came.. Now it comes and goes as it pleases.. I rarley get anxiety from mull these days but it does happen sometimes out of the blue..

I think present mental state affects this alot..

Saw Helmet last night. Holy fuck that was a loud gig! I think I'm doomed to a lifetime of tinnitus :! Was a tight set though; I was very impressed.

So jealous. :( I would have loved to have gone but unfortunately being a dad cramped my style last night. I had to be content with listening to them on the radio just as I jumped in my car at the end of the working day. I saw them around 12 years ago and came away with the same ringing in my ears.

How was Pangea?

^ not too shabby, I got there halfway through their set. Really heavy & dirty sound for a want of a better word, a couple of instrumental songs too. I hadn't really listened to them much before to be honest so they were kind of new for me. I had no idea old-mate-bass-player-guy from the 'gurge was in that band? The hi-fi was packed, lots of ageing metal-heads lol :)

Oh it turns out the original guitar player from Helmet (Peter Mengede)was a Brisbanite, and just happened to be at the gig last night, so they got him up on stage for about half of their set!!! =D

The rest of Pangea include members from the resin dogs and wolfmother.

GOMA had a screening of Purple rain a few weeks ago and Quan from regurgitator warmed up the crowd before hand with a whole lot of Prince songs.
