NPS Act V1. Blankets? Just Say No!

nutt isnt saying mephedrone is safe, just that its less harmful than amphetamine or cocaine. I was hammering mephedrone daily for a year, then MDPV daily for a year. that was 4 years ago. I recently had an echocardiogram and they confirmed no enlargement of the heart you would see with stims like coke or amphetamine, and basically a totally normal heart.

MDPV was designed to be less cardiotoxic than PV itself....

Are we all forgetting the spike in vasoconstriction and purple limbs when mephedrone was freely available on the streets? Death is not the only form of harm when it comes to drug taking

That effect was in no way universal and in many ways anecdotal. You know, that evidence they won't let us use when it supports our views.

The psychoactive substances bill is the most oppressive law in terms of controlling moral behaviour since the Act of Supremacy in 1558 that banned the Practice of the Catholic faith. Both are based on a moral superiority that specifies the state will decide on acceptable actions and beliefs even if they don't affect other people

^ it is insane that they have changed the law so they don't even have to consult to ACMD before developing legislation. Not that they ever listen to the ACMD anyway, evidence based science totally ignored by the worms in suits that make the policies.

All to appease their right wing voters and totally ignoring the sociological root causes of harmful drug use.

NO doubt the deviants in the house of lords will still have plenty access to coke, despite it being illegal. Perhaps everyone will just carry on using drugs anyway, that is my suspicion.

Who(m) ever mentioned the Nuh-Suh-Huh not knowing what'll hit 'em, GPs n Hospitals n addiction help-groups will be absolutely over-run due to the said Benzo n Opioid n Stimulant abuse 8(

Yes the users have themselves to point the finger at, but gov.Ucunts let this happen :\

The whole article appears very narrow minded to me. He seems to think drug prohibition is limited to the greed and evil of the government and eminent figures and cannutt think outside of this. In reality there are far more practical reasons for prohibition, particularly on harder drugs. For instance heroin; obviously it kills a lot of people, ruins lives and is the causes people to turn to crime. But he doesn't list nuttin outside of his demonising of the government, in this instance his sole reason for it's illegitamacy is because the government hates black people:
Actually, you picked a really terrible example there. The fact that heroin is illegal is demonstrably an aggravating factor which worsens every aspect of the harm it does. Stigmatisation keeps people from seeking help when they first realise they may have a problem. Inflated prices cause people to turn to crime to obtain their supply (and the fact that you have already broken one law may well influence your decision to break another one).

People seem to manage to avoid jumping off cliffs just fine, without an actual law against it ......

The fact the same drug when legal is considerably safer than when illegal is beyond argument.

As the Lords was leading the original revolt against the government & has now stood up to them on Tax Credit cuts, I wonder how that bodes for the Lords clearing this stupid law?

With one child you are fine Evey, nothing will change. The child tax credit cut affects those with more than 2 kids.

Of course, naturally you know better than the guy who is the number one academic expert on drugs and drug harm in the UK........

If you think Nutt is infallible, you're a fool. He's human and prone to bias and selectivity in his arguments and statistics, and you certainly don't have to be a leading drugs expert to recognise that.

If you look at the comment section, people are already finding flaws in the article - he says that " no self-respecting hippy would ever use nitrous oxide" whereas according to one person involved in the "hippy scene" it was quite widely used by them. For the "number one expert" he appears to be a long way from achieving drug omniscience.

Prohibition of heroin, and the resultant unrealistic inflated high prices, are the reason people turn to crime.

At about a fiver for a pack of 10 Marlboro, do you really think heroin will be going dirt cheap? In fairness you can blame the government for taxing it... but if it does go dirt cheap and legal, then - like cigarettes many years ago - it's certainly gonna claim an awful lotta lives.

The joke was, of course, that there's no such thing as a self-respecting hippy.

Yep western governments have a huge problem about needing to save face when they screw shit up, this is why the war in syria is going on and on, the UK and USA cannot ever admit to being wrong and I bloody hate the superiority complex.

Drugs are always going to be around, and I believe it is essential to give kids, adolescents, honest, realistic, impartial advice and education on what drugs do, how they work, how they can be harmful, how they can suck you into addiction and ruin your life - without being patronising or totally detached from reality - compulsory part of the curriculum in secondary schools and delivered as part of a cohesive plan formed around evidence based science and real life cases.

Not holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

Instead, schools hire a muppet called David graham and his natural high show. It's dreadful

Also, people have died having sex. Let's ban procreation!

When your times cums i cant think of many better ways of going. At least you would probably have been enjoying yourself in your final moments, (provided that it was good sex with a partner who was also enjoying it. Having sex with yourself doesn't count imo, i couldn't imagine many more miserable and shameful ways to go, the thought alone of being discovered of "death by wanking" is almost enough to make me blush with shame.)

I still don't see why they can't introduce some sort of financial incentive to remain child-free.

Didn't China try that over the last 20 years or so to control the population? I think they used negative financial incentives though rather than positive ones. (In some / many / all cases they also went as far as to enforce abortions on any woman carrying a second child in their efforts to control their population.) China's population crisis must now be over, as once again couples are allowed to have a 2nd child, at least for the moment.
