In an igloo made of asbestos and chicken-wire.
this is not a love song
it doesn't even rhyme
anyway
i find it difficult to believe in the concept of
romantic love

romantic love
is the name that people give to crushes
head-over-heels infatuation
intense obsession
it's not at all evolved

romantic love
is what leads to
co-dependence
the wasting away of
Me and You
the withering of
Personal Self
that i hold so dear

but i digress
and i rant
when all i wanted to say was
this is not a love song
but i like you very much
and you make me like me
and today
that feels enough.

I learned a long time ago that knowing a love is there, is enough.
If you wait and obsess about hearing it out loud, you run the risk of losing it.
There is a certain wonderfulness about the words that go unsaid....
"the wasting away of Me and You"... i have been there.

Hey Raz, these days when you write poetry are you pretty much imagining a spoken word gig when you write? Cos once again, I can imagine you on the mic, and this working a treat with the crowd. :)

Also, I love the 'anyway'... I can really hear how that would work too. It makes the whole thing sound more off-the-cuff and natural.

^^Not really consciously, but I think stuff writes itself like that now generally anyway.. :)

When I originally wrote it I wasn't sure if I wanted 'anyway' to be the end of the second line or the beginning of the third, so I kind of made it a joiner of both of them..

Experience tells me that this happens exactly like this...the balance is so hard to find when swept away.

Beautiful. This resonated with me. Love can make everything else insignificant -and silence all of our self criticisms. It's a nice place to be in. :)
