"Darkness cannot be dissipated with more darkness.
A 14-year-old Sonoma County girl found dead after drinking alcohol during a sleepover party ingested a fatal dose of the "date rape" drug, but where she got it isn't known, authorities said Wednesday.

Takeimi Rao was found on the floor of her bedroom at her home on Foothill Ranch Road in an unincorporated area near Santa Rosa at about 9 a.m. July 10, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators found a partially empty bottle of vodka at the home and a plastic water bottle that the girls used to drink alcohol, said Assistant Sheriff Lorenzo Duenas.

Authorities initially theorized that Takeimi had died as a result of alcohol poisoning or had choked on her vomit. But toxicology results showed she had overdosed on GHB, said sheriff's Sgt. Greg Stashyn.

Gamma hydroxybutyrate, known on the street as "liquid ecstasy," is a potent drug used by some youths at raves, or all-night parties, for its euphoric effect. Larger doses can lead to unconsciousness and death, and assailants have used it in date-rape cases.

Authorities don't know how the girl got the drug, Duenas said.

Takeimi's mother had taken her daughter and three of her friends, all 14 years old, to a hamburger restaurant for dinner before the Friday night sleepover, Duenas said.

At about 2 a.m. the next day, the mother was awakened by two of the girls, who were vomiting, he said. She concluded the girls could be suffering from food poisoning, tended to them and put them back to bed, Duenas said.

I don't know how the mom could have actually thought they had food poisoning.

I wonder what dose of GHB was taken, was it an actual overdose or would she have been fine if she wasn't drinking as well.

Either way very sad.

Schools need to have harm reduction campaigns instead of 'just say no' campaigns. It was most likely the combination. Very unfortunate.

"In post-mortem peripheral blood samples, high concentrations of GHB from zero to 197 mg/L could be measured, even in cases without GHB ingestion (Table 4). These levels overlap with the range of reported fatal GHB intoxications with concentrations of 27 to 2937 mg/L (Table 5) and could possibly lead to misinterpretation as intoxication."

By date rape drug i assume they mean Vodka?
I thought they meant a bottle of Xyrem and a sock.....(its to bad people are to dense to realize that you could use any sedative substance with a proper profile to date rape someone...also who wants to bet that ethanol has been used in at least a billion date rapes versus the thousands of GHB mediated rapes but you would never see good ol' lovable eth classified as a DR drug....that might hurt sales!)

One thing I will never fail to absolutely love is the correlation of GHB and date rape. No matter what the article, I even feel in a narcolepsy article it would be "People with narcolepsy now have the option of being raped to sleep by the date rate drug GHB...oh wait we mean Xyrem....which has nothing to do with the date rape drug.....totally different things not correlated in any way shape or form...seriously its sodium oxybate....totally different name and everything!";) No one ever misses a chance to negatively air chemicals even if they might not have a thing to do with anything.
