I was wondering if there are any non-stimulat or less stimulating ADHD medications that actually work. I have all the symptoms of ADHD, "zoning out" while people are talking to me, severe procrastination, very short attention span, get extremely bored with long task. I have NEVER been able completely read and entire book in my 22 years of life
.
It is extremely hard for me to get motivated to study, pay attention to my professors, read chapters assigned, and i always procrastinate til the last minute to complete the assignments. BUT give me a physical task to do which requires little thought and I will roll through it with no problem.
I was born without a pulmonary artery, and I had a talk with my doctor, who told me he had quite a few patients who are on medication for ADHD, but that was as far as the conversation got.
Since then I have been taking small doses of Adderall (10-15mg) or vyvanse (30mg) the day before exams or due assignment and this has really helped in improviong my grades and ability to get through the boring studying. This is the only time I take anything for my ADHD.
I know it isn't smart to take stims with a heart condition, but I do a stress test every year and according to the Drs, i do better than 99% of people with my condition and better than 75% of people with a completely normal heart, so I am in really good shape considering my condition.
So, are there any recomendations for Non-Stimulant ADHD medications that actually work?
Thanks.
