NHL Playoffs 2010

^ I lol'd. Hockey's not big here, I'd probably have to ask the barkeep to change the channel then all the college a-holes would get pissed at me. Now if it goes to an elimination game and it's not on, first I'll call my cable provider then I'll head to a bar to piss off a bunch of drunken college a-holes.

I'm impressed with Philly though. I thought Chicago was a good enough team to walk through this finals... not an easy walk, but like 6 games at the most. I underestimated Philly's skills. I think of them more as a rough team, but they've got some talent to boot.

1. There's no need to go to the bar now. The rest of the games are on NBC.

2. We have tons of talent. That was not my concern. I thought Seabrook, Keith, and Campbell had the potential to shut down our offense.....I overestimated their abilities. On top of that, I thought that Timonen and Pronger were too slow to hang with Kane and Hossa....I underestimated my own team's ability.

Claude Giroux is a wizard!

Giroux, Briere, Gagne, Richards, and Carter (and even Leino) all have 1st line abilities. On top of that James VanRiemsdyk is the #2 overall pick of 2008? (next pick after Kane). He will eventually be top line worthy as well. And we also have our role players stepping up like Hartnell. The Flyers have had the pieces in place the whole season, they just went through some off-ice issues mid-season. Laviolette really knows how to coach, what buttons to push, and what ones not to.

Giroux is awesome. I have him in a pool. We could pick only one young gun so I took him, he's been every bit what I'd hoped he would. Leino's really impressed me too. I don't like Briere, but I can respect his talent. :D

I also dig the grittiness of the Flyers. And though I'd still prefer to see the Hawks win this, if the Flyers win, I wouldn't be depressed about it. It would be kind of funny to see Hossa lose 3 Stanley Cups in a row for 3 different teams. Though at some point, I wouldn't mind seeing him win one. If he lost 3 in a row, I would feel somewhat bad for the guy.

The Hawks are finally getting the push they needed. It would have just been rude to see them win a cup without having to pay the physical price. Vancouver did not exact it and neither did San Jose.

So we get to see what else Chicago has i.e. an extra gear to deal with a new challenge...and if Philadelphia can hold momentum. Both teams have the talent ...but there's only one Pronger and he is a serious Conn Smythe contender. He might be the difference.

^^^

I think I used to talk to you back in the day. Hope things are going well.

Anyways, I have been a life long Hawks fan and played the sport as a kid. I think they are going to ultimately win, but they need to step up to that level that is unmatched by anyone. We saw it at the start of the season and especially against the Nucks after game 3 and the Sharks.

Don't really see Pronger winning the Con Smythe, but he has been stellar so far. +4 last night.

Hellz yeah, fellow hip hop enthusiast, eh? (unless it was phrozen who's the hip hop head) Either way, I definitely remember, we talked on AIM a bit back in the day too as I recall. :)

I'm still hoping the Hawks pull it off, but they're gonna have to play more physical with the way the Flyers are startin to bring it.

Man... now I've talked to pharcyde a TON, but the phrozen, pharcyde, phactor thing always causes confusion! I'll sometimes forget to whom I've said certain things. In lieu of this conversation though... good to OFFICIALLY make your acquaintance, phrozen. I would assume then that phactor is also a hip hop head. We all are too kewl. :D

So, how about this then: if the Flyers manage to win the Stanley Cup, who would their Conn Smythe candidates be ?

Remember, this is obviously without the benefit of seeing their next two 'wins.'

Giroux.

Though I haven't gotten to watch ALL of the finals so my perception of his performance may stray from the actuality of what he's done, I'd say he certainly provides good competition for the Conn Smythe.

This game, yes.....but not this series. Pronger shut him down the first 4 games.

So game 5 goes to Chicago, they definitely were more hungry in the first period.

Maybe not this series, these playoffs. :D

You can tell I didn't get to WATCH the two games in Philly, but I thought I recalled him playing pretty well the first 2 games. Maybe it's just resonance from the earlier series', but he's been doing a lot of heavy lifting this post season.

Well, in order to talk about a Conn Smythe going to Philly, there are a few obstacles, eh ?

Pronger was a -5 in game five, Giroux a -4.

It sure might not come to this, but check the list and you'll see that with one exception only, the Conn Smythe winner has been an established NHL star. Claude Giroux, if he were to do it, would join Ken Dryden as the biggest outsider to the win the trophy. That's based on what he's done in his NHL career to this point.

Maybe the question should be asked the other way - who is the Chicago front-runner ?
