NFL Football Player Gets 6 Year Jail Sentence For Codeine Possession

If he got clean in a rehab and played football again he'd have the chance to be a role model. He'd have the chance to earn an NFL salary.

Now he's going to be more wasted potential in a jail

The guy is getting more time then a pedophile would for possession of a drug that is OTC in most other countries? Wow America's "justice" system really has it's priorities straight 8(

In 1990 a man in Texas was given a life sentence. What had happened was he was involved in a robbery (that netted 2 dollars), was put on probation and then came up positive on a drug test for marijuana. The judge gave him life. In 2007 iirc Rick Perry pardoned him. People get enormous sentences just for violating probation.

Texas is fucking crazy, avoid the police here at all costs. HPD are especially dicks.

EDIT- found the case I was talking about if ya'll are interested- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrone_Brown

Just for some perspective, it doesn't really matter how much the robbery netted...he still robbed someone. I agree the sentence is insane but it's irrelevant he only got 2 bucks--he still robbed someone.

Also, y'all saying he needs codeine cause he's a football player--I guarantee you he wasn't taking the codeine for pain. He's taking it cause he's a drug addict. The prison sentence is crazy. But justifying his use by the fact that he's a football player makes no sense.

^ how do you know what he was taking codeine for? I played college football for two short years, but it's a brutal sport man. chances are, he got prescribed some T3, liked it too much, and had a bunch of money to spend on sizzurp in the sizzurp capital of the world, Houston, Texas

that being said, I would feel for him more if this wasn't due to a probation violation

I'm sure it matters to him. It's petty, the point is that he stuck someone up for 2 bucks and no one got hurt. The size of the robbery is relevant to my perspective but I can understand why you would say it isn't, not really worth arguing over.

Also, I've never played football but based on the play and exercises they do I would imagine that pro football players are constantly having aches and pains that codeine would soothe quite nicely. They spend their time repeatedly slamming their bodies against stuff and doing vigorous workouts.

Do they drug test NFL players right before games or what? I know they get drug tested, so wouldn't he have to go off the codeine when the drugs tests rolled around? If the drug tests come right before games that means that either he's not an addict or he somehow manages to play while WDing. Or tampers with the test.

Thing is, this dude sat out the entire 2010 season. So he was definitely visiting the land of codeine for pleasure, not business.

^Fair enough, I don't know shit about football so I didn't know that.

Still though, it was just a lil' drank mayne. I get he was on probation, but wasn't the probation also for codeine? The whole situation is dumb, a grown man should be able to take codeine if he wants.

After watching the video interview in the OP I'm not so sure it was just a little drink. I don't know anything about codeine, except to avoid it if I ever become an NFL linebacker. In the video it is hard to understand a lot of what the man is saying(thankfully they had subtitles for some of it), but I think I heard him say a bottle of codeine will run anywhere from $6-800 and he was drinking one a day. Surely I misunderstood him.

He also admits to failing 7 drug tests. 3 from the po-po and 4 from the NFL.

i think in texas especially the whole sizzurp scene is huge and it seems pretty addicting, lil wayne was hooked on the same shit. im guessing the method of administration and the whole culture is what gets people. hell tons of people are addicted to weed, i think the fact that it is a light opiate makes it more addicting to folks cuz they can downplay their addiction

let me put this, the NFL, and our glorious judicial system on the table for a second by mentioning...

Donte Stallworth, also a high-caliber NFL player, only served 30 days in jail for running over a pedestrian in his car in the early morning hours from a night of drinking, and being over the limit. this poor guy Jolly gets 6 years for drinking codeine

This is fucking ridiculous. Let me guess: he'll be jailed in a private prison, while the judge gets a big fat check from the private prison administration for his 'customer referral'. It's infuriating. I feel so lucky to live in Canada, and feel luckier by the day.

If he's from Texas that explains the codeine addiction. They practically invented drank in Houston. Most people there want the promethazine in it too just FYI.

I always wondered how so much prescription syrup got to the streets. Do people get monthly refills of that shit or what?

Six years for a probation violation of failing a drug test for codeine...Typical, let's make an example out of one relatively well-known guy and hope the problem goes away. There is a freaking culture of syrup sippers in Texas, but really they don't harm anyone. No one is robbing people when they don't have their lean, they're just chilling feeling like crap.

I don't know how people can play sports like football where you get banged up every game without atleast abit of codeine or something stronger. Ive never played football (not American football anyway) but Ive played hockey and there where times i had to basically use the hockey stick as a cane to walk home because my knees where so fucking banged up.

Was Stallworth on probation at the time? Did he have a history of non-compliance with the law? Without knowing the facts of that case, my guess would be he had a pretty clean history. I'm not making light of the fact that he killed someone, but there are really no similarities in these two cases.

Actually he failed 3 tests. 7 if you count the others.
