Drug equipment to be banned in SA
October 17, 2007 - 1:35PM

Bongs, smoking pipes, cocaine kits and other drug paraphernalia will be banned from sale under new laws introduced to the South Australian parliament.

Independent upper house MP Ann Bressington will introduce the measures which are expected to pass with the support of the Labor government.

They outlaw the sale of any drug paraphernalia and remove the requirement for police to prove the equipment is being used for the consumption of illegal drugs.

Current laws make the possession of bongs and other equipment illegal only after they have been used.

Ms Bressington said her bill meant police would no longer be hindered by the legislative glitch.

"It closes many loopholes that have enabled pipes, bongs, cocaine kits, ice pipes and other forms of drug-taking paraphernalia to be freely sold on our streets and markets," she said.

"This bill leaves no stone unturned and no legislative ambiguities behind which traders can hide."

It's a little concerning to think you could be charged for possession of drug paraphernalia when it has never actually been used for the purpose of administering drugs. :\

So they are going to be banning all drink bottles and garden hoses as well?

GREAT WORK GOVERNMENT, YOU ARE TRULY PROTECTING THE COMMUNITY!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the crap that spews out of Ann Bressington's mouth.

I sure hope this doesn't get passed. Otherwise I'll have to stock up on pyrex pieces now and hope that I don't break them. Surely there are some people in political power that support Harm Minimization - foil cones pieces with a plastic garden hose are effectively more harmful than the cannabis being smoked through it.

Bunnings and Coles may as well be outlawed too as the textiles I used to make my latest bucket (and much more powerful and efficient than any bong) were purchased from Australias favourite hardware and grocery stores

There will be a day with this current bullshit w3ar on drugs that you will have to start mixing your own testing kits, because it will count as drug paraphernalia, and the government would rather see people drop dead to use a scare tactic so young people avoid ecstasy and other drugs.

good point Splatt, it would not suprise me that the government would push this issue that far and ban things like test kits, then take advantage of the outcome, i.e people dying from bad pills, to support their 'prevention' agenda. disgusting.
i hope the law isnt passed in victoria..

What law, the banning of bongs? It has/is being passed. Search for it in AusDD, i started the thread from memory.

Crack pipes and bongs are already well hidden in Melbourne cities. Its a game of not looking like a cop and asking for under the counter goodness and finding the right tobacconist.

Ironically, the sponsor of this bill, Anne Bressington, was snapped outside parliament, smoking. She might not like bongs, but she seems perfectly comfortable supporting the largest drug pusher in the world...
