NEWS: Police target drugs sent in the post

fuck the AFP. useless overpaid pricks.

78 search warrants and only 22 arrests.. The fact remains, thats only 1 third of the busts they executed finding drugs on the property (most likely). By my reasoning, and this may be giving too many people some credit - 1/3 of them were fuckhead drug dealers importing to their own home - whilst holding some form of drugs or another (possibly being hit with a controlled delivery). 1/3 Not having any drugs on them due to the circumstances (seizure of said drugs) and 1/3 of them smart cunts who know the game, use false information and don't implicate anyone as having committed a crime, and getting away with proverbial murder. also possible in the first percentile is morons like the guy in the 4mmc thread - admitting to having imported drugs, when there was no actual evidence.

I used to know a guy who was ex-DEA in the US in the mid-90's who was stationed in Columbia. He said that they figured that they intercepted about 1% of the incoming contraband. They used to say that it was about 10%, but that was for PR purposes only.

May all those drug sniffing dogs get sick and need to go home. Sorry animal lovers... :)

Australian Customs are the best in the world, make no doubt about it. There's only a few ports of entry (unlike the USA for example), and it's an island nation with very, very low #s of mail volume (relative to, say, USA/Europe).

That's what they would like everyone to believe, no doubt. But, like all humans, they aren't perfect and the fact that there are contraband substances available proves that point.

I always figured leave the smuggling to the pro's. 8o

Does AU Customs even have the right to open up standard size envelope first class mail without suspicion? Or only packages?

^ i think they can open anything, regardless of suspicion. customs wouldn't be very effective if they weren't allowed to check packages ;-)

Standard sized plain white envelopes. You know, like you send a letter in or you get invoices in. Not packages. I know they open packages randomly.

They don't open those coming into the USA without suspicion.

^ hm well maybe the same rule applies here. Not much you can send through those letters except powder and tabs I would imagine.

You can send a goddamn lot, a few grams at a time. What drugs don't come in powder form?!?!?!

:P fair enough. I know people on BL who have sent and received powder in letters to South America successfully :)

Of course they can open it. They will usually x-ray it and if there is inconsistency then they will open it. Just because its a letter doesnt mean it will get through. They x-ray almost every single letter/package taking swabs and using dogs as well.

Thank god friends stopped messing with this stuff. They used to get small amounts of certain drugs sent to them through the mail and the people sending it always told them things would be fine but I just didnt trust it and told them to stop or they'd end up in big trouble, I felt like they were doing something really wrong so I urged them to stop doing it and dont associate with those people anymore. Obviously nothing close to 1kg let alone 60kg ever got sent, im talking 1g or meth or a few acid trips every month or so. Im glad I never did it, I know the first time that Id do it id end up getting caught so its never going to happen.

Imagine the amount of drugs lost to gangs or whoever controls the stuff, I have a feeling the amount of drugs seized through the mail would be pretty high, I read somewhere that mail is one of the big ways to transport drugs around the country so im guessing they do regular and random checks on australian mail and haul in a fair amount of not just drugs but other random illegal objects/substances/things. Id imagine quite a bit of money is being lost but then again I guess they'd expect to lose some every now and then, theyre all rich enough anyway, im sure one or two lost parcels dont matter to the big names too much.

Sorry for the double post theres just one more thing I wanted to add. I think sending drugs through the mail is dumb coz it could easily get sent to the wrong house and what if a kid opens the mail(like I always did when I was young, unsupervised) and finds a bunch of meth or heroin and doesnt know what it is and kills themself somehow. I couldnt live with myself if something like that happened because of me.

You just have to be so careful...Drugs and the children that frequent my home(my niece etc...) or any children at all obviously dont mix and I make sure all drugs(mostly just medications) are kept out of reach from her, its mostly my methadone I have to keep from her but anything that could harm children is kept out of reach in my house coz its something I truely fear, just the thought of my niece dying of anything is something I just cant imagine happening and if it did, wow I dont want to think about it, so scary.

^Dude... you're taking it out of context... surely anyone who'd consider doing this would know it was coming, and if they had children in the house, know not to let them near the mail.

Yeah, yeah,

A great succes I reckon. For the last 2 years I received mail from oversees once a month. And only once I did not receive it. But that probably was I mistake from my friend sending.´
Do you really think that AU customs investigates all adresses where a small amount is send to?(that is if they found it, but till now I received all my mail,) Lol, just be sure your name is not on the mail just to be sure.

right, i must have skipped that line. Surely enough that could happen. Cut a long story short - if you intend to send these things, use a registered shipping method with tracking so as to avoid this kind of thing happening. In my experience with this kind of thing, I have never once seen something delivered to a wrong address.

Hell one of the bills i get, i live in VIC, is addressed to Tasmania for some reason... But so long as the post code is correct, it comes sure enough. And, another point i'd make - is that people who are ordering drugs, tend to use express signed consignments, because they're impatient.
