^ Its the only logical thing to do, by May 1st I will hopefully be sitting on an arseload of pills. These restrictions are a joke, it wont be SO bad if they bring out 40 packs, I can just about live with that. If I have to run around buying 24 packs I am going to lose the plot.

Just wait till they keep a record of it. I can see where this is goin, just like pseudo pills. First u can buy from multiple chemists then they will start tracking it with ID and a system then eventually it will be banned and prescription only. U just watch. Remember this day i said this.

anyone see the report in the perth sunday times? i havent seen it but a friend told me anything over a 24 pack will now be prescription only. last week i went to a chemist and asked for a box of 96 and was told they are now prescription only, but 48 was still available with no problems at all. i was under the impression 48s would still be availabe or was it always going to be 24 packs only? this is fucked. the beginning of the end.. im going to see my doctor this week.

im just glad my local shoppin centres have atleast 2 or 3 or 4 diff chemists in each s/c

but by then plans goin well il be off the shit anyway

i shall repeats

From Australian Pharmacy Guild website

"will be Pharmacist Only Medicines (S3) when: containing up to 5 days treatment and up to 12 mg codeine per dosage unit"

Since 6 and 8 tablets is the maximum daily dose for ibuprofen and paracetamol combinations respectively.
8 times 5 = 40 tablet size boxes for panadeine etc
6 times 5 = 30 tablet size boxes for nurofen plus etc

I am 99 percent sure that the pharmaceutical companies will simply adjust the box sizes to suite these new laws. I wouldnt be worried about having to run around buying 24's.

unfortunately i believe codeine may eventually be tracked like pseudoephedrine. Probably on a 5 day bases of which will allow legitimate to treat themselves (if they are dosing correctly) and only inconvenience abusers

Went to the four local chemists in my area today. Not ONE of them had boxes of 24 or over. Only thing available were 12 packs and those were $8 more expensive than previous visits.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I'm just gonna spend my money on oxys/speed/h now, seeing as my dealer is easier than a chemist mission so it seems..

So.Frustrating!

^ LOL I know you used to like codeine, just because your tolerance has gotten fucked doesn't make codeine shit and it doesn't make it fair for it to be taken away from the rest f us who still enjoy it.

I have noticed the price of codeine tablets here in melbourne has practically doubled in the last month or so, as i suffer from headaches & back pain from time to time i like to have a box on hand but when i went to my usual chemist last week i was shocked to see just how much the prices had jumped.

As for making codeine prescription only that is utterly ridiculous, things like paracetamol & ibuprofen have no effect what so ever on me what so ever & the thought of going to the doctors every time im suffering from a headache or some minor pain is frustrating & unneeded.

Personally I've never found paracetemol to have even the slightest analgesic effect. I'm almost convinced it's a placebo, just pushed by the companies so they have an excuse to mix it in with codeine to prevent abuse.

Ibuprofen does help, but mostly with muscular pain, and it's not even close to the effectiveness of even the weakest opiates.

^ I agree... Ibuprofen + codeine mixtures seem to work wonders, especially for pain associated with opioid withdrawal (leg cramps etc). I used to swear by paracetamol + codeine preps for that, as it was widely thought that i may have stomach ulcers from the use of N+ in CWEs, as it was not the case (more just my anxiety causing vomiting etc) i eventually switched back. This is for actual medicinal value, not abuse...

^wow.. you're gonna really enjoy the bad effects with an attitude like that when ya run outa cash...

Oh well, run the hard yards like the rest of us... and that itch for opiate numbness never leaves... and you have dreams bout scoring smack and shooting up.. then waking up before the shot and being in pain and anxious.. can't sleep.. can't eat.. what a wonderful feeling... Quit whilst you're ahead dude.

oh and i havn't noticed any increase in price..

I went to my local Guardian pharmacy the other day as i had some terrible leg cramps.. (yesterday morning infact) and purchased a generic pack of Ibuprofen + codeine from there for a little over five bucks. 24 pack i might add.. N+ brand was roughly $8 for the same thing... It's been like that as long as i can remember, perhaps you all need to start purchasing your local chemists generic brands?

Mods feel free to remove this or edit it if you feel it breaches pricing guidelines, i just feel it needed to be mentioned.

Yeah I haven't noticed a change in price. And Generic is definately a must, cheaper and usually easier to extract

News: Codeine ban will induce headaches: pharmacists (28/3/10)

Codeine ban will induce headaches: pharmacists
RACHEL OLDING
March 28, 2010

BIG changes to the way codeine tablets such as Nurofen Plus and Panadeine are sold are expected to cause a headache for pharmacists and customers.

From Thursday, all combination medications containing codeine, which are used by 4 million Australians each year, will be rescheduled.

Packs containing up to 12 milligrams of codeine will be kept behind the counter and dispensed only by a pharmacist who will record the customer's details. This includes 12-tablet and 24-tablet packs of Nurofen Plus and Panadeine.

Customers will have to obtain a prescription for a 48-tablet pack or larger, leading many to stock up before so-called Codeine May Day.

The National Drugs and Poisons Schedule Committee ordered the changes over concerns that 1 in 20,000 people abused combination analgesics containing codeine and ibuprofen, which can cause perforated gastric ulcers and kidney failure.

The Pharmacy Guild estimates that increased doctors visits could cost the health system $2 billion. ''The guild is desperate to avoid more prescriptions,'' its vice-president Kos Sclavos said. ''If every time someone has a minor headache they have to go off to the doctor, it will add enormous strain.''

As a result, most manufacturers have decided to stop making 48 packs.

Greg and Mary Walsh of Concord, who have four children, estimate they use a 12-pack of combination analgesics every week. They buy in packs of 48 because they are cheaper and ''then it's always there'' but will now have to visit a pharmacy almost every week.

''It will lead to us running out,'' Mr Walsh said. ''When it's needed, it won't be there. so you'll have to put up with the pain until it subsides or until you get around to going to the chemist.''

Paul Ta, from Day and Night Chemist in Ashfield, said pharmacists could expect an bigger workload. He said some patients would be concerned about details being recorded but drug abuse had to be stopped.

Customer details cannot be accessed by other pharmacies, allowing medication abusers to visit other shops. Mr Sclavos said that, overall, pharmacists were supportive of the changes.

I didn't realise they were taking down details as well. Not that it makes a huge difference, but, annoying...

Thursday isnt the 1st of May. Shit this is very bad news if there taking details, few pages back i did say i can imagine them doing it but it sucks. Any info on how many u can pick up say in a month?

Probably at the pharmacists discretion, and we all know how wildly they vary in their attitude towards codeine.
