I got offered heroin a couple of times in the last month whilst trying to get some gear. I'm an IV meth head and actually considered giving this shit a bang but didn't know what an appropriate dose of heroin was for a first timer and didn't really trust these guys selling the heroin (fucking drug fucked junkie fucks.....made me feel dirty just talking to them), I'm very glad that I didn't buy a half weight of their shit now.

You could always start out with snorting until you've gauged the potency, then adjust for the extra strength of IV use and prepare a shot.

Or do an acetone wash (I'm not 100% they work on heroin though).

An acetone wash does not work on heroin, a more complicated procedure (which is available probably in Other Drugs) is required, but it's not that easy compared to the acetone wash.

Mysterie I am equally sick of that statement, it seems they have to throw it into every anti drugs article ever written. It is rather ironic considering the only reason this is the case is the legal status of said drugs.
