We all love the photo contest (well, a lot of us do). There are also a digital arts contest and a 2-D design contest. I think we need more!
Post your ideas for a contest theme, as well as the specifics of the contest such a rules, length of time for submissions, etc. After we get a few (hopefully), I'll make a poll (joy! i get to make a poll
), and we will have a competition for competition threads
. Then the winner will be started as a contest. That isn't to say that you can't start a contest of your idea on your own, in fact that would be awesome, but I thought this might generate some cool ideas, as well as assess where the greatest interest and hopefully participation will lie.
For instance, I'll throw an idea of my own out, just to show you all what I mean:
I already started a thread for posting movies that you made. (linky)Most people have the option of recording video on their digital cameras, so it isn't much of a leap from taking photos to taking video. Well, there hasn't been an overwhelming influx of user-created videos, so I don't think that a contest along those lines would work too well. I think that this is because it involves a good deal more work than just snapping a photo, because you need to shoot all the video and edit it too, and there is not the competitive element of the photo contests. So, my idea is to have a competition of videos that are only single shot, perhaps with a time limit of 30 seconds or thereabouts. The idea is to basically take a photograph that incorporates motion and/or sound and any other elements that are not achievable through a photograph alone by using video. For instance, one can take a photo of a busy street corner in a city, and communicate the message, but it would be made even more vivid perhaps if you could see the cars moving, hear the horns honking, see the clouds moving across the sky.
So the idea is basically the same as the photo contest, where a theme is given and entries are submitted that interpret that theme and try to capture it, only instead of photos being entered, short 30 second video clips are entered.
I already explain this in the other thread, but you can host your videos on youtube or even photobucket, so hosting shouldn't be an issue as most people have photobucket accounts anyway. There are also lots of programs available for video editing so you can add music or title screens or cool transitions to your entry. Windows usually comes with a video editing program, and Adobe premier and Ulead Video Studio also work well and are available to a resourceful person (
).
Anyway, you get the idea. Use this thread to post your own ideas, or express your opinions on the ideas and structure of others contest suggestions, especially with regard to whether or not you feel you would participate in any of the proposed contests.
So c'mon with it, BL! Remember, Second Opinion, as well as the arts content it is a home to, is only as good as your contributions make it!
I hope to see some cool ideas.
