New opioid users thread a.k.a. I didn't feel anything!?

I'm a 140lb male. Surely if 180mg of oxycodone doesn't produce a strong euphoria in someone with a low tolerance, they must have this enzyme deficiency? The product isn't the problem.

Yes, yes, lucky me if I do, I'll probably never be an addict. On the other hand, I'm still drawn to them, I always have been drawn to downers. The fact that, as I've said above, I have gotten high a few times provides some contradictory evidence. Is there any way I can know for sure that I just can't get nearly as high?

Also, how could my dose be too high to produce euphoria? Could someone explain that, as it makes no sense to me. Although when I first used oxycodone, only a few months ago, doses of 80mg was more euphoric than the higher doses I took after a 6 week break.

I don't think an enzyme deficiency would affect oxycodone; it works by itself, whereas codeine needs to be converted to morphine by CYP2D6, an enzyme which around 10% of all white people lack.

I think maybe he meant that the dose was so high that the sedation was overpowering the euphoria, but that doesn't seem to be happening in your case.

It may be that you just need to use them a few more times until you get the hang of it.

I guess you can point to the enzyme/race factor, as that's proved pretty accurate with studies. Which leads me to say that peoples' drug of choice(DOC) is obviously the one which provides that single person with greatest euphoria. I'm going to skip past the majority kings ie. heroin and (good quality) blow; because most people will enjoy both of these, most of the time.

Two that I like to compare are xanax and hydrocodone. Those are two pills which almost everyone I know, will grab a couple of either if they have the chance(freakin pharm crackdown in my area is getting bad) depending on their preference.

Most of these people either prefer one or the other. I have a buddy who swears by xanax, and experiences so much euphoria from around 3-4 mgs., whereas I just become tired for the most part. On the other hand, I am diagnosed with social anxiety, and the first time I tried hydros, I believed I had found my true love. Felt like I was wrapped up in a warm blanket, completely anxiety free.

Guess my point is, as you probably know, everyone's brain chem. is different, so you may never enjoy opes. I've tried to allow xanax to grow on me to see if it would change, to no avail. If the positives don't outweigh the negatives, just stick to what you know you like(if that makes sense, I'm tired:) ) Peace

Very interesting. I was aware that codeine's high is actually a morphine high, with about 10% converted to morphine I believe. Whereas oxycodone is quite different. However I wasn't aware that the enzyme deficiency could only affect that conversion process, and not all opiates.

So my question becomes, is it possible for anyone to not get as high from ALL opiates, and if so, why?

If not, then, as Mr Blond and others have stated, sometimes opiates take time to take their full effect. Is there evidence of this, or at least widespread experiential belief in it? Because I've only used oxycodone 7-8 times, I used codeine about 20-30 times. I'm starting to think I might have that enzyme deficiency, but as I have experienced euphoria from oxycodone, perhaps it will just take time.

BTW. I know this forum is about harm reduction, but it's also about education. Without going into specifics, it's difficult for me to get hold of oxy, and involves a wait of two weeks or more after I request it. I'm aware of how dangerous this drug can be, and I'll continue to take breaks of 3-4 weeks between usage. Luckily, I'm obliged to take at least a 2 week break.

Thanks again for the feedback guys.

You said codeine used to work for you though; I haven't heard of anyone just developing a CYP2D6 deficiency, as far as I was aware it's a genetic thing.

Well it's all relative. It's been a long time since the first few times I used codeine. It's entirely possible that in those early days, the experience seemed more powerful, and then, even after breaks, I become over familiar with it. Anyway, thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to try one more round of lower doses of oxycodone that I used last time before I make any decisions about whether or not to continue with it.

That sedated feeling where you couldnt keep your eyes open ... thats the nod . thats what most people who take opiates are looking for , the first time i took them i remember noddin my ass off but didnt feel any "high" after a few times tho i began to notice it it comes on very subtle , almost like benzo subtle .. next time just dont be going and taking 180 thats a completle waste of good opioids .. for someone who doesnt do opiates that often thats almost 4 seperate doses all at once ..

hydros effect me different i never nod on them have to take a xanax to get to sleep they really wire me up hard to catch that buzz sometimes though i cwe everytime cause i do 9 10/650s to start and 2hrs later 7 more am out in 1 week so have 3 wks to clean out. so no addiction
