Greetings, Folks!
This seems a good place to start, and get some info. I hope someone here can offer me some info that will help.
I'm going to try to keep this short and to the point.... My name is Rory, and I live in the US Pacific NW. In 1996 I was involved in a car accident that caused some serious problems, including a broken neck. After surgery only helped so much, my doctor started me on pain meds. It took a year or so, but by 1998, he had played around until he got the right drug at the right dosage so that I was kept reasonably comfortable. Life was bearable again, you know? I've been on this very same dosage of medication ever since, without using it recreationally, and have abided by all the rules my doctors have put to me.
Now, for some reason--my insurance company is getting the blame, but we have had to ask for an exemption every year, and never had any problems before, and my doctor is getting tangled up in his stories a bit--my meds are being reduced, immediately--no weaning, no titration, just BAM! From 150mcg of Fentanyl, in the patch, every other day, to 75mcg's, every 3 days! They're going to kill me, I simply don't believe I can survive a cut like that... not after 17 years of every-other-day use! My back-up medication--one I never liked much, but it was my doctors choice--was methadone. It's also been cut, from 40mg daily to 20mg daily!
So, can someone tell me, please: is this as dangerous as I believe it is? And does anyone have any suggestions? I have a few (very few) valiums that could help with the withdrawal a bit, but not nearly enough to do any real good!
If anyone can help, buy way of suggestions, I'd be very grateful...
Rory
