Greetings, Folks!
This seems a good place to start, and get some info. I hope someone here can offer me some info that will help.

I'm going to try to keep this short and to the point.... My name is Rory, and I live in the US Pacific NW. In 1996 I was involved in a car accident that caused some serious problems, including a broken neck. After surgery only helped so much, my doctor started me on pain meds. It took a year or so, but by 1998, he had played around until he got the right drug at the right dosage so that I was kept reasonably comfortable. Life was bearable again, you know? I've been on this very same dosage of medication ever since, without using it recreationally, and have abided by all the rules my doctors have put to me.

Now, for some reason--my insurance company is getting the blame, but we have had to ask for an exemption every year, and never had any problems before, and my doctor is getting tangled up in his stories a bit--my meds are being reduced, immediately--no weaning, no titration, just BAM! From 150mcg of Fentanyl, in the patch, every other day, to 75mcg's, every 3 days! They're going to kill me, I simply don't believe I can survive a cut like that... not after 17 years of every-other-day use! My back-up medication--one I never liked much, but it was my doctors choice--was methadone. It's also been cut, from 40mg daily to 20mg daily!

So, can someone tell me, please: is this as dangerous as I believe it is? And does anyone have any suggestions? I have a few (very few) valiums that could help with the withdrawal a bit, but not nearly enough to do any real good!

If anyone can help, buy way of suggestions, I'd be very grateful...

Rory

Opiod withdrawal is usually not fatal, it just makes you feel like you are going to die.
The Valium probably won't help you much i'd avoid it unless you really need it like if you are having a panic attack.
If your symptoms get really bad the doctor will hopefully treat it tho

Welcome to Bluelight !

Opiate/Opioid withdrawals are not really dangerous to one's heath, though they're usually hard to deal with and often cause serious discomfort.

Good luck, you'll probably have to deal with it, but talk to your doctor, their job is to help you. Loperamide can help with the physical symptoms, and it's otc.

I'm gonna move this to Other Drugs.

Just a thought: Maybe Pregabalin (Lyrica) or Gabapentin could help you with that transition since these meds are known to not only potentiate opioids but also help with the withdrawl symptoms.
You could ask your doctor about this. They are generally used as a treatment for neuropathy and other indications.

It is a damn shame insurances are allowed to act this way, especially after 17 years of treatment. I wish you the best for making it through!

Damn thats pretty brutal. You will likely feel extreme uncomfort from the fentaw reduction aswell as rhe methadone but the symptoms from fent reduction will likely last about week or so. The methadon methadone will take much longer to feel back to normal.

I would also say to try to get some gabapentin/neurotin or more prefably pregabalin/lyric. These will help more than anything other than actual opiates.

Yes, very difficult but take the opportunity and try to end this.. I m also going through the same shit with methadone and know how you fell. You can do it. Don't ever give up on yourself

Ibogaine can cure withdrawals and a tenz box can help with localized pain or others have success using kratom

Ibogaine doesnt cure withdrawals. Its an opioid itself, among other modes of action. Its more like a long acting opiate that will bring you down to a lower dose slower, its nmda antagonsim helps as well. But its not a boom instant withdrawals gonna for good effect.

"Ibogaine is a tryptamine. Because of the ibogaine molecule's tryptamine core, ibogaine acts as an agonist (binds to the receptor and triggers a response) for the 5-HT2A receptor.[52] However what makes ibogaine's pharmacodynamic properties and subjective experience unique from that of other psychedelic tryptamines and serotonergic psychedelics is that it also acts as an antagonist (blocks agonists' effects) of the NMDA receptor set and an agonist for the κ-opioid receptor set.[53]

A kappa agonist yes

Ask your Dr. for some Clonidine to help with the WD symptoms. This past mess I've been in had me get the patch and it's a miracle drug. Really takes away, what I call, the EBGB's. If you don't know what that is, it's that feeling you get just before you shiver and you do like a doggie shake all over. It sucks! Good Luck with whatever you dec
