Even the more established photography contest rules are not necessarily set in stone forever and may (and probably will) be changed as time goes on. My apologies if that's directed at me. My above post stemmed from an innocent comment about not participating in the current round of the 2-D contest, and wasn't meant to become a 'this sucks' post.

Unfortunately I felt that it was being taken personal due to the response, so I thought it might be better to bring the discussion over here (and out of the contest thread) and go ahead and bring up the topic of the topic change as well.

I was under the impression this was where we were to discuss those things. Thank you for the clarification. : )
 
QE, that was not directed at you or at anyone else in particular. It was a general statement of how we'd prefer things done, in that if people are not happy with something, they should speak up via PM or other venue. This thread is definitely one such venue and I appreciate you taking the discussion out of the contest thread and bringing it here.
 
im moving, and wont have reliable internet access untill the 18th. im not going to start something i cant finish... so untill further notice, or unless someone else wants to pick up this weeks.

consider 2d art contest a raincheck.

Does someone else need to take over the 2-D contest from now on? I will do it if needed.

[maybe one of the mods should start up a poll for those that did participate last round, and wait to see if wesmdow does come back and still wants to run it.]

i should have the internet back regularly on monday. ill definitely get it back up and going, i just dont have access to the internet unless i am at a restaraunt or my PARENTS -_-.

and no one has responded to my idea of a themeless 2-d art contest.

just enter what you want? it'd be on a weekly basis, pretty much exactly the way things were, minus a theme to adhere to.
 
I don't see where you suggested that. Maybe I missed it.

I think there should definitely be a theme. There has been a LOT of participation in this contest with themes, minus the last one, so I'm not really sure what that would accomplish. I don't know, maybe now that you've mentioned it again others will give their opinion.

Same here. No opportunity to take any and nothing in stock.

Personally, I have no interest in participating in the other competitions, it'll always be about the photography for me. One can only give away *so* much genius for free every week. (Or more accurately, I don't have the skills!)

Seriously though, I do love the photo competition. You have no idea how often I think about it nowadays when I'm out and about. Big respect to SA for always organising it so well, I have no doubt it takes up a good amount of his free time.

As mentioned earlier (I think), it might be an idea to publicise these competitions wider on Bluelight.
 
I miss the 2-d art contest :( I cant wait for wesmedow (or anyone, if it gets taken over by someone else) to get that one up and running again.

Oh and definatly keep themes! I need ideas, I know I would have a very hard time participating in it without themes. Also, it would make voting that much harder.

I posted a few ideas yesterday in the contest thread, but I'll put them here too.

My suggestions so far: colorless/black & white/greyscale, animals, living things, death, male, female, portrait, possibly self portrait
 
http://www.willard-wigan.com/index.html I dont know if anyone has heard of this guy (other than of course wesmdow, because we were just talking about him) but his work is incredible, its like nothing I have ever seen before, so I thought I'd mention him here. Apparently his stuff is carved out of grains of rice, sand, and sugar. He paints between heartbeats in order to keep a steady hand. Wikipedia gives some good info on him, but the site I posted has pictures of his work. http://www.snopes.com/photos/arts/microscopic.asp And this site has some more pictures.
 
I am going to bump this again to ask the same question. 2D contest, where are you?

I would hate to see something that has gotten as much participation as this has die off . . .
 
wesmdow started that contest. why don't you PM him and ask if you can maybe take it over for the time being?
