I'm in a horrible situation me and spouse are both addicted to heroin, we have many time tried to detox each other but you know how that works. We have no one to babysit our 3 children ages 3-9 and treatment while I want it so bad is not an option. He just started a new job and had no time off till after December. I feel so stuck I came clean to my parents and they have buried their heads in the sand because they do not want to tell their spouses both are remarried there for they refuse to watch our kids. I'm dying slowly I hate this drug and I hate that I chose to pick it up after having children!

Trust me I've tried going long weekends off but everyone knows you are in no shape to takecare of kids in complete withdrawal.

Hi there and welcome to the site,

May I suggest that you check out our 'Sober Living' section. You will probably find a few people going through the similar thing or at least you will be able to share your experience. (just copy and past your post)

Good luck and if you have any questions about how the site works etc then please feel free to ask

Hi Missy,

I wish I could offer a magic wand to make it all go away. My heart goes out to you and your family. I am the only addict in my home. My wife is being extremely supportive in helping me taper off of heroin. I have had an on and off IV habit for the last 4 years and I couldn't count how many times I've tried going cold turkey only to end up going through my phone bill to find my dealer's phone number because I'd deleted it. I've chosen a taper because structure helps me. I wrote out daily doses with milligrams and times of day to dose and my wife is keeping the dope locked in the safe with the key tied to her belt loop to keep me from "accidentally" dosing early. I'm dropping 10-20 mg per day over the course of two and a half weeks and dropping one daily dose weekly (5x per day, then 4x per day, then 3x per day, then 2 days of scheduled 2x per day at the lowest dose at the end of the taper). I check off each dose as I take it so that I feel like I am counting down to the end of this hellish cycle. Im no expert and I can only hope that this works for me, but maybe if you and your husband can help each other do the same sort of structured taper, you could increase your chances. Whatever you do, I wish you two all the best. I know, all too well, how devastating heroin can be on a family. Hang in there and keep talking. There's a lot of experience in this forum. Kevin.
