NCAA football preseason Top 25

OSU does not deserve another title game this year. Period. Hawaii goes 12-0 and doesn't get a chance to compete for a title, and plenty of WAC and other weaker conference teams have similar records to Ohio State and they don't get to play. They have been crushed two years in a row by clearly stronger teams, and that is a clear indicator that the Big 10 is currently down. OSU has one of the weakest schedules among teams in BCS conferences.

I know people will point to Michigan beating Florida, but lets face it, despite all the hype, Florida was a mediocre team last season, mostly due to youth. Throw in the fact that Meyer doesn't sit his players at the end of blowouts in order to inflate Tebow's (I am not saying Tebow is not an amazing player) stats and you end up with a team that is beat up and too tired to play in that final game. Michigan was clearly in the right place at the right time for that win.

Most of all this offseason I am surprised at how many people aren't giving the Canes a chance to do anything. I'm not expecting a championship by a long shot, nor am I really expecting an ACC title, although this is a big down year for the ACC and anything is possible, but I would expect them to at least get a couple votes in the coaches poll for a ranking. Heres some teams that were given votes: 7-6 Florida State, 3-9 Notre Dame, and all of the ACC with the exception of North Carolina State and Duke. The people who do the rankings are so out of touch with what is going on with other teams. This is why I believe a playoff system is necessary, to even out the playing field for teams that otherwise cannot win this nationwide popularity contest.

If you really think for a second that Ohio State is the most hated team in college football, take a good look at the Canes. The media has never pleaded for your program to stop playing football.

i would disagree that florida was the better team in 06/07, they simply outplayed osu. lsu was definitely the superior team last year.

being a hated program kind of implies that your program is relevant. seriously can anyone think of another program that has fallen so far so fast? less than a decade ago they were competing for a national title, today they're a punchline. i dont say that to be insulting, its sad to see programs with a tradition of winning totally bottom out.

pander~ why waste logic on the village idiot;)

I really don't understand how Notre Dame goes 3-9 and they are still relevant. They have been mediocre for many years before that, with the exception of the Brady Quinn era, where they were still not that good.

The Canes meanwhile, have a couple of mediocre to bad seasons and all of a sudden they are irrelevant, a punchline, a team that has fallen. College football is cyclical in nature, in that all teams go through periods of good and bad seasons. Eventually the Canes will be back, simply because they are in South Florida and are able to recruit some of the best high school talent in the country.

Teams like Florida, Miami, Florida State, Ohio State, Texas and many other already established programs in great recruiting areas will never go away forever. Coaching mistakes may hamper them for a while, but they will always be back due to talent and reputation.

Teams like Notre Dame, Alabama, and Tennessee are going to have real trouble coming back, due to being in weak recruiting states and having to attempt to pull kids from their home state and the school they grew up adoring.

^Not really. Alabama requires a Nick Saban to pull in recruits. Notre Dame pulls in highly ranked recruiting classes, especially with Charlie Weis, but there is a tendency with those who rank players to add extra points to those who commit to certain schools and a retraction of points on those who go to others. This is especially the case with Notre Dame, who despite getting top talent year after year remains abysmal.

Schools like Notre Dame and Alabama need great coaches to pull in a talented group of recruits since they often have to pull them from out of state. Just look at how bad Alabama was doing before Saban got there. Ultimately, the first rule of continuous success is location. Just look at what USF has been able to do simply by taking the Florida big three's rejects.

^^...Yea, I mean it is not like those two schools have ever won any championships or anything 8) .

I don't think you fully understood what I said. Those schools need really good coaches to have continuous success. Established schools that are located in great recruiting areas do not need the same level of expertise in order to have success. Talent always wants to go there and is pretty easy to bring in.

Let's replace Oklahoma's, Texas', Florida's, LSU's, OSU's, or USC's coaches with shit coaches and see what kind of success they have.

Every school needs a good coach if they want good recruits and continuous success. What is the last school that won a national championship with a sub par coaching and recruiting staff?

Moreover, tradition plays a huge part in where recruits decide to go, see Alabama, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma for instance. Charlie Weis is a shitty coach I think, but he still gets pretty good recruits.

Basically, my point is that any school, in any area with a tradition of winning national championships will have no trouble rebuilding, but will need a good coach. Alabama has had some 'coaching mistakes', Notre Dame is having 'coaching mistakes'. Both of these programs have a rich tradition, and will be back..most likely before the 'Canes (especially after watching the OU-Miami game last year).

I believe Miami's success was a fluke personally, and I don't see them coming back to national championship quality in the next several years.

Miami would be the last school that won a NC with a shitty coaching and recruiting staff. Larry Coker was a horrible coach and the reason our program is where it is. He was a bad gameday coach, hired poor staff, and stopped recruiting locally in favor of hit-or-miss out of state recruits. Miami just had so much talent left over from the Butch Davis era that the Cane's were able to win it all anyway.

Coaches who can recruit well are a necessity. Being established and having a reputation are necessary. Gameday coaching, not as much of a necessity, provided none of the staff are totally incompetent.

If you did indeed watch the OU-Miami game last season, you would have seen that Miami was in the game till the third quarter. Horrid quaterbacking killed Miami last year, but there are fresh faces now who even as freshmen cannot possibly be as bad as their predecessors. There was only one game the entire season that was out of reach for Miami, despite what the score might indicate.

Meanwhile the Canes locked in one of the best recruiting classes in the nation, have a new coaching staff, two QB's who broke Tim Tebow's Florida Highschool passing records, and a more experienced team with more depth (the depth was atrocious last year). I'm not expecting much this year, as the team is still really young, but we will be better.

And where do you get this Miami's success was just a fluke crap from? Please explain this to me. Miami won 5 NC's in the past 25 years. We were on probation in 1997, went 5-7, and won an NC again in 2001. By the way, a lot of the things being said about the Canes now are the exact same things people were saying then.

that was hilarious, especially the "retards humping a door knob" bit.

can UGA win all their games and then the National Championship? highly unlikely, specially with that QB of theirs. however, if they could somehow win they would most certainly deserve all the praise in the world.
