Getting to the point ...
So....since football is essentially over for me (again)...Let's look at Basketball!!!

Why? Because my team is actually ranked! And, it's just one more chance to talk shit with the SuckEye fans since we play them in 2 hrs!

Rankings as of now:

Code:
1	Duke (58) 1-0	1,617
2	Michigan State (7) 1-0	1,558
3	Kansas State	1-0	1,422
4	Ohio State	1-0	1,379
5	Pittsburgh	3-0	1,325
6	Villanova	1-0	1,197
7	Kansas	1-0	1,178
8	North Carolina	1-0	1,021
9	Florida	1-0	1,017
10	Syracuse	2-0	967
11	Gonzaga	2-0	911
12	Kentucky	1-0	887
13	Illinois	3-0	834
14	Purdue	1-0	772
15	Missouri	0-0	685
16	Butler	1-0	626
17	Baylor	1-0	587
17	Washington	1-0	587
19	Memphis	1-0	540
20	Georgetown	1-0	333
21	Temple	2-0	289
22	Virginia Tech	1-0	271
23	Brigham Young	1-0	228
24	Tennessee	1-0	194
25	San Diego State	1-0	162

tOSU plays at FLA tonight at 6PM EST. Here's a quick write up on it (ESPN):
6 p.m. ET: No. 5 Ohio State at No. 10 Florida (ESPN/ESPN3) -- With the possible exception of Virginia Tech-Kansas State, this, my friends, is the game of your marathon. Florida, the media's preseason pick to win the SEC, is back in the national conversation after Billy Donovan's three-year rebuild thanks to the return of all five starters from last season's NCAA tournament team and the arrival of top-15 recruit Patric Young. Ohio State returns every non-Evan Turner starter from last season's 2-seed and welcomes the No. 2 class in the country to Columbus. That class includes forward Jared Sullinger, who, if he lives up to his considerable hype, could lead a deeper and more balanced Buckeyes team even further in the tournament than last season's somewhat disappointing Sweet 16 finish. How Sullinger and fellow freshmen Deshaun Thomas (the No. 3-ranked small forward in the incoming class) and Aaron Craft (who's been drawing big praise for his capable point guard play thus far) augment the Bucks' talented returners will be the key to Ohio State's season. We'll get a taste of that dynamic Tuesday night, but more than anything, this is just a great early-season nonconference game, almost as good as they get. I can't wait.

The line on the game is FLA (-3). We've got a lot of enthusiastic youth, but I see tOSU with a lineup of Sr-Sr-Jr-Sr-FR....aside from the freshman, that's a lot of experience, and I suspect the #4 ranking is well deserved. Should be a good game. Go Gators!!

the Buckeyes looks like National Title contenders again this year. looks like David Lighty and Jared Sullinger lit up the bucket for most of the points. David Lighty took control of the outside while Sullinger dominated the paint... and with the name "Sullinger," when associated with Buckeyes b-ball - he definitely should

I think that tOSU should be more of a March Madness threat this year because they will have a more complete team than last year, where it was more like the Evan Turner show

Agreed. I didn't get to watch much of the game, and from our biased local writers the game wasn't as bad as the final score reflected, but still, to punk another top 10 team at their house? tOSU is in my elite 8, if not final 4, right now - and it'll take a lot to knock them from that perch. Granted, it's early in the season with a lot of games to play, and some injuries to find, but still....props to Thad & Company.

yeah, it was close and actually a very solid and fundamentally sound NCAA basketball game... until the last ten minutes when the Buckeyes just started lighting it up with three point buckets

the Gators should still win the SEC. like every year (it seems), this conference is once again wide open. it specially helps that Tennessee isn't going to be quite as good as last year due to losing some players

but I'm worried about the Big Ten. again, it looks like a powerful b-ball conference. god damn Michigan State is just so good, no matter what talent they have. they're lucky they have that powerful of a coaching staff

I hope the Bucks make it to the Elite 8/Final 4, but Thad Matta is known for recruiting some of the nation's best talent but then all-of-a-sudden losing in a head scratcher in Sweet 16 or Elite 8

Recommend The Southeastern Conference announced Friday that Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl has been suspended for the Volunteers' first eight conference games this season due to NCAA rules violations that were discovered over the summer.

Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl has been suspended for his team's first eight conference games this season due to NCAA violations he and his staff committed that were discovered over the summer.CAPTIONBy Steven Bridges, for USA TODAY
Pearl is suspended from all team activities on the dates of the following conference games:

Jan. 8: Tennessee at Arkansas
Jan. 11: Florida at Tennessee
Jan. 15: Vanderbilt at Tennessee
Jan. 18: Tennessee at Georgia
Jan. 26: LSU at Tennessee
Jan. 29: Tennessee at Ole Miss
Feb. 3: Tennessee at Auburn
Feb. 5: Alabama at Tennessee

Pearl was found this summer to have lied to NCAA investigators as they investigated allegations of rules violations by Pearl and his staff. The coach told investigators he didn't know where a photo of a recruit -- who was a high school junior at the time -- had been taken, but investigators already knew that the photo was taken at Pearl's home. Hosting a high school junior at an off-campus site is prohibited by NCAA rules.

"The suspension from coaching duties has been imposed after a careful review of the facts established during the NCAA's investigation and reported to the SEC office," SEC commissioner Mike Slive said in the news release. "I am extremely disappointed in the nature of the violations involving Coach Pearl and the Tennessee men's basketball program. The penalty applied to this circumstance is significant, which is consistent with the directive approved by the SEC membership in 2010 granting the Commissioner authority to act in such cases."

On the dates of the games in which Pearl is suspended, he is prohibited from all team activities, which include, but are not limited to practices, meetings, pre- and post-game activities and the game itself.

Don't fuck with the Big Ten!

Gophers, fuck yeah, go to hell UNC!!

I'll give the ACC 3 wins in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

it's so surreal to hear this, agree with it, and think that it is a good possibility

I remember the days when the Big Ten just couldn't quiet compete with the magnanimous talent of the ACC as a whole, except for maybe one or two teams (usually Michigan State)

but those days are behind! the Big Ten looks to be a real NCAA basketball power

Yes the SEC seems to be sucktastically wide-open this year. However, it seems like every other SEC school has recently fired the old coach who's been allowed to stick around 5 years too long because we just...don't...care about basketball down here, and replaced him with a good up-an-coming type coach. I wouldn't be surprised to see a rebirth of SEC basketball in the next few years.

Let's see.....FL was picked to win the SEC, and has struggled to win at unranked FSU, and just lost at unranked UCF. It is my opinion that the SEC basketball season will be even worse than the SECEast football was .... where is my throwing up smiley?

Michigan State lost a close one at Duke. I think Duke has a rematch with Butler soon? should be good

Of course a few days after I say this Gophers lose to a slightly average UVA team on home turf...i'm not concerned....Gophers still look legit, it's a long ways away but I will be dissapointed if the season doesn't result in at least a 5 seed in the dance... Trevor Mbakwe is a freak athletically and has NBA potential, but his skills need a lot of work.

It's awesome having the Big Ten Network for once, every Gopher Big Ten game will be televised:) Gone are the days i'm lucky for 3 games a year!

yeah, as much as the Big Ten Networks sucks it really does come in handy because you get to see all of your teams' games

and, you can thank that Network for propelling the Big Ten into success in the future. there is a reason why a big name school that has been rooted in Big 12 tradition jumped at the chance to join our conference

how about some small-school love for the Oakland Grizzly Bears in Rochester, MI?

they've beefed up their tough OOC schedule and almost beat a great Michigan State team, and then did upset a decent Tennessee Volunteer team last night

they will make some noise in March

UK fan here. I like Calipari but the revolving door of NBA kids makes for week-to-week high highs and low lows.

First mission this season: beat Louisville.

Next, stay competitive for the SEC crown.

March Madness, I think a Sweet 16 birth is about as much I could expect at this point.
