my (long!) essay on rave culture

(BUMP)

It's always good to remember where you came from, and how you've grown as a writer, from someone who didn't think they could and wouldn't try into somebody with a talent. Go man go.

wicked piece. Interesting in retrospect too. What would you say has changed in the scene since you wrote it?

Music seems about the same. In terms of drug use I think GHB has become more prevalent - I certainly wouldn't call it obscure these days.

I really loved the quotes in that essay though. Great work finding them.

mean girl: i'm not sure. i actually don't mind it, all said, but there are a few things that could be done better - certainly the way i quote things is a little awkward.

if i had to keep the same word length, it might have been worth cutting a few topics and focusing more - the media issue certainly didn't get as much of a go as i would have liked. if i'd been able to expand the word length, i would have used it to flesh things out, instead of *having* to rely on some of the (albeit real) stereotypes which i used.

potato: yeah, probably just that mainly - the g issue is a big one. house music is still as big as ever in melbourne, and the people are just the same (perhaps a little more pretentious though?).
