Mushy season opener 2006

Does anyone have any idea how far north in NSW from the VIC boarder do subs grow?

Would you find them as far north as Casino or Lismore?
 
There are shitloads of P.subs all around the auckland area as well as 'blue meanies' (a more potent variety) growing out west. NZ subs seem to have a darker colouration to the aus ones, probably due to the wetter and colder climes. They are quite strong and size varies dramatically.
My patch has just started to crank with a few days of rain. I am trying to decide whether I should take another trip as I am still feeling the effects of thrashing them a couple of seasons ago... They can really fuck with you.. Their evil side will become apparent through prolonged use.. be careful and take only in moderation.

Looked in a couple of bookstores and online but nothing is in stock and there seems to be a long wait to get it ordered in. So basically does anyone know of anywhere that currently has it in stock?

If you live in melbourne try polyester books on brunswick st - they will either have it or order it in for you (given it IS the start of the season i wouldn't mind guessing they've ordered an extra couple of copies ;)

Otherwise head to the shroomery, they have online versions of it there and many a link to websites that sell it.
 
Thanks guys, i'll be going near polyester books sometime this week so i will check that out.

Be prepared to be ripped off. Buy it from amazon, you will save lots more cash. Have you seen the books listed (with purchase links) in this thread?

Both of these links are from FungiMap - a site dedicated to identifying mushrooms. Of the 100 target species of the project, few are psychoactive ... but this guide (and/or CD rom) could be helpful in learning what ISN'T magic mushrooms at least... and provide ideas on how to identify fungi and which ones are dangerous to consume.

I havn't seen anything about it in this thread but in the thread from last year a lot of people mentioned trying to start new patches. I've recently attempted this myself and though i'm not overly hopeful as not many people seem to have reported sucess i'm wondering if sucessful when will i start to see pinheads, i.e how long after my attempt at spreading spores should i give up checking the patch?
 
dabb: I have had a few years experience creating new patches. It is so sad to see some of these places get abused badly by people that I feel its a responsibility anyone picking mushrooms has.
I always cut the stem from all mature specimens I find and lay them on newspaper to gather spore prints. I then bag these and take them on my next hunt. I burry the newspaper under mulch in area's that I feel should have shooms but don't. Within a year or two there will most likely be a nice patch there.
I have posted photos of my front garden in last years thread, but I will post again this year. Finally the nutrient levels must have dropped and there are P. Subs. sprouting outside the bedroom window.
I can also say that moving mycelium around does work if its moved directly to the place or planting. But don't disturb mycelium deliberately, you will give the patch a real kick in the ass and fruiting will suffer within a month or so. Off to take a photo out the window ;)

EDIT: Photo taken, sorry about the size but its the only way to show the subs from a distance. There are many pins but only a few semi mature ones

^Thanks for the advice i think i'll try use your method and attempt to start new patches whenever i can. I'm glad to here it's fairly sucessful because i know some areas that i think would be perfect for p. subs even if Sydney continues to recieve a minimal amount rain like it has over the last couple of years.

HAH! I find their evil side shows through the very first time you overdo it :D Patches are cranking prety hard in Auckland and with showers forecast every single day for the next week we should be looking at a huge season.
 
Took a look around this morning (dandenong ranges area) and had a successful expedition, returning with not quite as much as endlesseulogy.
Up until Thursday certain suburban patches were absolutely dry. Not even the top 2cm of soil was soaked through, so I wasn't really expecting success. How fortunate we got lucky :)
 
All my spots have been too dry, searched for 6 hours the other day before finally finding a few in a new area I'd been shown. Damned El Nino!
 
Went out for my first hunt for the year the other day with a friend, and after several hours of not finding one single mushroom (of any type), we finally found some! (subs) :) So the subs are definitely out you just have to look really hard! By the way I went looking south-west of melbourne.

Found around 15-20 subs today. Beautiful specimens. Left about 45 pins, so they are defenitely out. Eastern Suburbs of melb.
