Doing mushrooms your first time is a very precious and unrepeatable major life event. I would not treat it like a lightweight party like that. I would avoid the beach. I would avoid anyplace you will be encountering non-tripping strangers in public. I would avoid even a large crowd of tripping friends like that. Take it from a long time veteran - shrooms can get wierd and one person having even a minor strange episode can send the whole thing spiraling off in unfun unpleasant regretful directions. I would save srooms your first trip for INDOORS (or a remote quiet camping trip) with just you and one or two other experienced guides... doing them with othersdoing them 1st time is really not good... your thoughts will be drawn by natural social tendencies in our monkey brains to obnsessively focuson THEIR state of well being and experience and you will all be doing this and everyonewill miss out on what a first trip really wants to show you.

That said... if doing it with a group at the beach is part of the "package" of getting to do shrooms the first time heres my advice.

Yea visual toy can be sorta fun, but ultmately a distracton from better pursuits.

MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENT OF ALL: Tunes. Spacy classic psychedelic rock. Yes - Close to The Edge absolute ecstasy, Going For The One (song "Awaken" especially spinetingling and awesomely psychedeic, considered by many their finest masterwork), Neil Young Rust Never Sleeps live in concert, what an energy and so many gorgeous & touching and devastating classics stunningly played... version of "Like A Hurricane" the guitar solos oh my fucking god even straight that sends shivers down your spine even if you are into other styles... no one rocks like tha these days... they really tapped into something. Those albums on the beach doin shrooms first time with a group of pals and your life will ne ver be the same.

Try to make space though to just sit and be quiet, listen to the music... too much tomfoolery with friends seems fun but can easily distract you from the real power of the drug which is *INSIDE YOU* and can easily turn to mindfuck wierdness... The sound of the ocean yea nice on shrooms but all that white noise is not necessarily a good thing... well composed masterpieces like the above will give a background of content and meaning that will absolutely improve the experience, provide a "movie soundtrack" that wll keep your thoughts on a good path and away from some of the wierder mental corners that can ensnare you on shrooms if you are not careful.

i LOVE playing board games that make you think while shrooming.. even simple ones like jenga.. even if i end up staring at it for 15 minutes thinking haha

This.

Having a few first timers in a public place on shrooms will most likely result in a fail. Even if you yourself would be fine, if just one of you has some issues the vibe reverberates very quickly because we worry about each other, and the weirdness of shrooms can be overwhelming if you aren't well equipped. Many inexperienced people's attempts to "help" while tripping end up exacerbating the problem.

i kinda agree with the above. Find some LSD man, much easier to keep a good vibe going IMO.

thanks for the advice, I think i'm going to think about this more thoroughly. I really did want to experience it out in nature though. I might have to try to plan a camping trip. I'll probably bring my gloves and give a couple light shows through out the night, but not abuse them haha.

Well I know I metioned it above, but on 2nd thought, a camping trip might seem the Platonic ideal, but maybe not the best thing for tripping 101. Cant be sure how you will react, and so many chances to get injured or freaked out. Honestly best place for 1st time tripping is someplace you already know well and where you feel 100 percent physically safe and comfortable and have at your disposal anything that might cross your mind, be it on the stereo, in your desk, on a shelf, or in the fridge, haha. Tripping first time should be thought of as mental skydiving, you really dont know how you will react till you do it. Somewhere you are familiar with can serve as a baseline so you can really properly observe how the drug changes the way your mind is working. And if this should start to seem freaky for you, being in a familiar place can be an anchor that keeps you from wigging out. Dont worry, the shrooms will make things plenty special and unusual enough just sitting your own bed, haha. And taking steps to make the environment special for that night end up becoming important wonderful aspects of the experience.... cleaning and straightening or rearranging, special lightring or artwork, some Nag Champa incense... turn your living room into a sacred cathedral... put on a great music of your special choosing and dose up. Thats the way to try it the first time. But maybe I am a conservative poindexter.... some people do seem to thrive on an element of strangeness and danger and challenge while tripping (My late soul-mate before I knew him got off on, get this, climbing on bridges while tripping his ass off on LSD... no thats not what did him in haha). But maybe leave those kind of challenges till you know how to fly that mind-ship at least a little.

This?

I'm looking to maybe do shrooms during or before Easter break, and I'll be a first timer at that. I've done acid and salvia before, so I know about psychedelics reasonably well enough.

If I do it over spring break, I'm very likely to do it alone, and I've already tripped solo in both a public and private setting and was able to handle it just fine, with only slight paranoia involved (I'm a normally slightly paranoid person to begin with.)

Honestly, though, I think it would be a good idea to take them sometime in the late afternoon, tripping and watching the sunset is one of the absolute most beautiful things anyone can experience, and then, if you're lucky and it's clear, the stars are intensely beautiful.

Well, good point about the sunset and the stars... cant go wrong for setting the propr state of mind with those!

Your "This" was pretty funny.

Dont know if this will play on a desktop, but heres a link to the mobile HQ video of the 10+ minute number...

Silly props and antics are goofy and dated (hey it was what 1972)... and if you dont have the patience for the whole thing jump to the 5:00 mark... Neil sings:

I am just a dreamer,
But you are just a dream,
You could have been
Anyone to me.
Before that moment
You touched my lips
That perfect feeling
When time just slips
Away between us
On our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
Where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

And then he launches into one of the most brilliant, beautiful, blisteringly intense, moving, paint-peeling 5 minute marathon live guitar solos in music history... gave me chills again listening to it today. If I had been on mushrooms I would be on the floor in tears right now.

The first time I heard that song a few months back while sober, while the only drug I have tried was weed, salvia, and Vicodin, it gave me chills down my spine, especially that solo!

what would be a good starter dose.. The strain i have is "quila" thats all i know. (home grown)

Ive broken through on dmt, salvia, done lsd about 5 times.. Would like something not too intense but not a tease also..

cheers

if you've done lsd and you enjoy the full lsd experience, then go for a full eighth (3.5g) of shrooms.

there at least a couple levels of mushroom trip; low doses are colorful and giggly, while higher doses are immersive and visionary. the only way you can find the difference for yourself is by trying, so you can either start small (1-2g) and work up to 4g at a later time, or just jump right into 4g your first time and save the lower dose for a trial some other day.

I'm thinking tomorrow in the late afternoon I'll eat mine (I have about a cut [3.5g] of gold caps, which I heard are not bunk unlike the last batch of shrooms we got) so I can witness the sunset and peak while the stars are shining. Maybe even take a walk through the cemetery right after I eat them, try to walk to the top of the hill and watch the sun set.

As for the actual dosing, though, I do have a question. Should I eat the whole cut right away (like, in one sitting), or just eat it over a period of time? I just took a tiny bite off of a stem and they don't taste too bad (usually the only time I eat any kind of mushroom is if my mom just cooked some stew) so I think I'm good in that department.

I've already done salvia and Lucy a couple of times each, so I feel like I'm ready to take on a cut of shrooms.

If they're potent shrooms of most common species (at least around here in central TX, no idea what varieties you tend to get in Eastern Canada), 2 grams should be a pretty good starting dose. If they're on the weaker end, it may be a bit on the low side, but if you've never tripped before, a risk of a too low dose is better than risking an excessive dose.

I assume you've done some reading and whatnot on psychedelics and have some idea what to expect. Psychedelics are different from most other drugs than any of the drugs you listed are from each other, I'd say.

Make sure you're feeling good both physically and emotionally, no huge immediate worries or concerns going on in your life, before you take 'em. Try not to spend your trip 'judging' the drug or trying to control the experience - be calm, in a good mood and ready to explore whatever experience comes to you. My best trips are the ones where I don't spend the first few hours watching the clock and trying to 'rate' the intensity of the visuals or other aspects and just let it happen.

I like to have some healthy snacks around, in case I want to munch on something or get a little hungry but don't want to eat a full meal. Trail mix is a favorite of mine, but whatever works for you. Make sure to have plenty of drinks around - if you're not at someone's home where you have easy access to water and/or other drinks, make sure to bring some - being thirsty while tripping sucks and water, juice or fruit smoothies can be soooo good. Soda and whatnot can be fine too, but I'm usually more conscious of my body and more health-oriented while tripping. Some sprite or 7-up or something similar can be nice in case you get mild nausea or stomach issues and just want something soothing to sip on. If you enjoy good coffee or tea, they can be fun, but you may wanna avoid making your own on your first trip - boiling water + trying out new altered states of mind can be a bad combo ;)

Comfortable, private outdoor settings are nice. Personally, I like to spend at least part of every trip in a comfy seat indoors with access to music, interwebs, etc., but some people like spending their entire trips in natural settings. You can always bring an iPod or just enjoy a day of psychedelia disconnected from all that modern stuff (sounds suspiciously like camping to me, which I've never been fond of ; ).

probably going to get merged...

most likely is indoor psi. cubensis, unless you live in cow country, or get the fall woodlovers on the coast.

it's frowned upon to consider shrooms as just a way to get 'fucked', but to each his own. depending on set, setting, and dose: on the light side (<2g) the experience can be colorful, swirly, and filled with uncontrollable laughter. my brother once tripped so hard he thought he died laughing. the more intense trips (>4g) can be utterly mind-melting in the way they teach you things about yourself and those around you. some people believe in plant spirits that can reward or rebuke you, but personally i believe in the power of the mind to lead itself.

read moar trip reports :)

interesting use of cut, around here we always call them eighths.

you will probably be fine taking them all at once, but the relatively fast onset makes redosing ok too. the taste may change after the first couple caps. some people enjoy tea, but then they eat the mush at the bottom anyway... honey and lemon and chamomile go a long way to making a delicious brew

Firstly, I'd avise you to watch out for cars. You may not understand this fully now, but when you're tripping on shrooms it seems like cars can kind of sneak up on you.

Second, I think 2 grams should be good. I doubt you'll get a full-blown psychedlic experience off 2 grams, but it should be enough to make you have some spiritual insight, lots of laughs and some minor visuals -- which is fun for a first time.

Lastly, have fun! I live in Canada as well, and most of the shrooms we get here are generally just homegrown cubensis.

if you know how to make the most of your e highs, then you will most likely be able to figure out how to have massive fun on shrooms. try moving around, try standing absolutely still, try humming or singing, try listening to frogs. if shrooms do have a plant spirit, then it is a childish and playful one. it wants to hide and seek, jump and shout, spin in circles till we all pass out.

^^^camping tripping is the best kind of tripping btw. campfires are gigantic incense burners, with the energy of the universe flowing through them. and while you don't have to worry about cars, the thought of a bear is exciting :P

when i trip, i don't enjoy inhaling cigs (opposite when drunk). i rather wave them around and watch the smoke trails.
