Mushroom Season 2014

Not open for further replies.
I've had three trip down the rabbit hole this season and i must goddamn I've missed these little gifts from heaven.

went for a hike with a mate yesterday, wasn't expecting to find any at all. But we did.

Not many, but i think this is the earliest in the year I've found any in SA :)

One of my mates posted a pic on Facebook to me in a private message with a fuck load of mushroom caps drying. I told him to get rid of them and sterilise his kitchen top. They looked sus as. They were all from the underside of cap and ha strange red due blotches on the gills and the gills were a beige colour.
Not asking for an ID in em just sharing some info. Not sure at all on the species but there was absolutely no blue bruising so I told him to fuck em off. Theory where the stalk was removed looks rather big and solid. Looked like poisonous shrooms to me

The best thing about having the means and ability to cultivate my own shrooms (if I could be fucked) is that should I go picking, I can afford to be RIDICULOUSLY anal about identifying the correct ones. Any hint of doubt and I won't bother :)

Canberra's starting to hit sub-0 temps now....FUARK KEEN

regarding magic mushrooms

Went picking this morning found some which i believe to be magic mushrooms blue/purple stems blue/brown caps. I ate 1 then another a hour later then redosed and had a fair few with little to no effects should i be worried? From research I have done there are death caps in australia but couldnt mistake them,

so is there any poisionous mushies in vic that the stem will still have the blue/purple effect? I must add I am on effexor and zyprexa would those drugs make me not feel the effects? also had a lil meth in system. help would be appreciated cheers

We have an Australian Mushroom Season 2014 thread here. So I've merged your post into it.

Please, please, please don't eat random mushrooms without a 100% positive ID.

We don't do ID's on BL, but shroomery.com can help in that regards.

There are deadly mushrooms in Australia, it's adamant that you ID your shrooms before ingesting. A good starting point is to have someone that's 'in the know' with you on your first hunt.

Hi Folks.

JUST AN INFORMATION SHARING POST IN THE INTEREST OF ENLIGHTENING HUMANITY:

Almost all my posts on BL have been on stims, but I'm also an experienced picker (this is about the 8th season i've been looking for (and sometimes finding) mushies (subaeruginosa aka Golden Tops or Blue Meanies). I'm based in Melbourne. Took me four odd seasons of finding pretty much nothing, including a season in Canberra, and it was driving me to dispair! but then one day it just clicked and now I can't walk down the street without finding something. Once you are tuned in, they are EVERYWHERE (at least in Melbourne)!!

Three things:

First just to let everyone know that the mushroom season in Melbourne has been early this year (started early May) and has produced MASSIVE amounts of shrooms in the last 2 weeks, Myself and all I know have picked massive amounts of shrooms (by the kilogram!) over the last weeks. Unfortunately today it has started to dry up and there is no rain forcast in Melbourne for the next week or so, so the shrooms will be a little less easy to find (although they are still out there). Mushies are easy to find (In Melbourne) when you know the right environment and you time it right with some rain. There are also many rural locations where mushies are common, where they are less dependent on rain.

Secondly, for those interested in all things Mushroom I highly recommend tuning in to The Shroomery (http://www.shroomery.org). They can expertly idenfitfy mushrooms you pick to make sure you don't poison youself, discussion on the psychedelic experience, info on growing mushrooms, and just about everything else you could think of. For those fellow shroomerites in Melbourne there is a dedicated thread to Victorian mushroom hunting in the forums.

Thirdly, to those who are looking for mushrooms but not finding any, I would also recommend the site http://endofthegame.net/2012/05/09/psychedelic-mushrooms-and-you/ ... this will give you ALL the information you need to find the things. Most importantly KEEP TRYING. The common experience is hunting for several seasons before getting the knack. Hunting while tripping on Mushrooms is also a bag of laughs and seems to have some magic laws of attraction. But yeah, keep going, read the link above, and with persistance and time you will begin to instinctively know the environment they like, and once you can ID that easily you will find shrooms all over the place.

The season will go from now until early-mid July at which time it gets too cold for them and they thin out. The odd mushroom in Victoria can still be found from then until September but bug hauls are unlikely in the extreme cold. So folks, you've got about 1.5-2 months to get out there and PICK PICK PICK. Once you've got enough, dry them out (in any one of a few ways) and they will keep for ages. Many people shred them and put them in capsules. They can also be preserved in honey but this is dangerous if they go bad. In the right environment after rain its easy to find 50-100 mushrooms in one small 'patch' or area, and if they are mature shrooms you only need a few of them fresh for a level 1 trip. Psilocybe Subaeruginosa are one of the most potent psychedlic mushrooms in the world, and only grow in South Eastern Australia and New Zealand, so we are really blessed to have them so abundantly. Picking one good patch each weekend will give you something like 500 mushrooms, which will keep you and your friends tripping for months.

Just remember a few things -
1) DON'T PICK 'PINS' (the baby mushrooms that dont have an extended cap yet)- Leave them and come back in a few days, or leave them for other shroomerites
2) DON'T RIP THE WHOLE MUSHROOM OUT, USE SCISSORS OR FINGERNAILS AND CUT IT AT THE BASE LEAVING THE ROOTS IN TACT - Otherwise no more will grow from those roots
3) BE TOTALLY SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT MUSHROOMS! There are no look-alikes that can kill you but there ARE mushrooms that look a lot like Subs and grow along side them (literally side by side) that will make you VERY VERY sick!! Shroomery.org will ID any mushrooms by experts you find if you upload a photo. And check out End of the Game site listed above.
4) TAKE THE STANDARD PRECAUTIONS FOR TAKING THEM FOR ANY PSYCHEDELIC - Ie set and setting, dosage, environment, starting with a small dose, tripping with friends, etc.Do you research. Avoid them if you have a mental illness. And like most entheogens the effect of mushrooms will PROBABLY be diminished or completely stopped if you are on psych meds (such as Antidepressents)
5) AND MY OWN RULE - ALways have something like Valium/Xanax, or failing that an anti-psychotic like Seroquel or Thorazine on hand in case you freak out. Has saved my life more than once. Seroquel is not able to be abused and can sometimes be procured from your GP. Or failing seroquel, any other 'Anti-Psychotic' medication.

My mission with this post is to further information on magic mushrooms which are a productive, enlightening, positive, and non-habit forming substance that can really facilitate personal growth. I hope I have helped or sparked interest.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me here on Bluelight. Obviously I won't give away locations or participate in mushroom sale of any kind. Mushrooms were put on the planet to accelerate our evolution (according to the late profit Bill Hicks) and they are pretty incredible. I HATE acid with a passion but enjoy mushies, they are a world apart in my opinion. Especially a low dose of mushies - its a fun, liberating, earthy feeling. Gotta be tried!

Hope you are all getting out and doing some hunting. Feel free to email me.

Good luck, happy hunting, and safe and fun tripping! (so much more satisfying when you found them yourself!)

One species I have been looking for is gymnopilus purpuratus. They apparently can be found around Victora, and I've hunted shrooms all over the state but have never come across them. If I find a new species I've never seen I bring them home and try to ID them, and they have just never turned up. Is there anyone out there that actively hunts them out, or have found them at any time? Don't want to know where you got them of course.

Wow - purpuratus is one i've never even heard of! In four odd years of picking the only psychedelic mushrooms i've found are Subs and also the good old Fly Agaric (Amanita Muscaria) which by all reports is a pretty shitty trip. According to Shroomery.org there are four or five different psilocybe mushrooms that grow in Australia, but in massive amounts of picking and research, subs are the only variety i've ever come across.

greeting from the UK our mushroom season starts in September peaks in October and after that all the humble little fellas we call the liberty cap magic mushrooms are all gone for the year. We have a red mushroom with white dots on called the Fly Algaric (amanita muscaria) but you have to be very careful with them as they can be lethal if you don't know what you are doing with them so I have never tried them or seen one for that fact. It seems like you fellas down under have a few varieties of trippy mushrooms to choose from do they vary from region to region? or do all types grow all over OZ. The British magic Mushroom can be great in large doses 4 to 5 grams can cause visual and audible Hallucinations. Have any of you guys from down under tried our Shooms if so how do they compare? It is widely said amongst us Brits that our mushrooms are the best in the world. But I think that is bullshit as you would have to try what the world has to offer to make any sort of comparrison. Do different types of shroom have different effects? I would like to thank you guys in advance for your repies :)

Tunesy from memory Australia has 20 different species of the psilocyb variety. Only difference is potency, they are all psilocybin containing mushrooms. A common species p.cubensis is common around here. Dosages are 2-3 grams dried.

Sure, but cubes and subs are not like that. There's an awesome thread about different subs (substrate also has a massive impact) over on Shroomery (click here)
