Mushroom Season 2011 UK / Ireland / Anywhere else

I just found about 50 libs in the fridge, they've been dry for two years and kept in a sealed bag in a sealed jar in a dark cold fridge all that time with me thinking they were capers and ignoring them til I went to make some pasta last night. Is there enough there for a trip, given their age, or would I just find myself in that horrible borderline territory between sober and high?

Hi all, I've got about an 8th of dried libs at home, I've only had Shrooms a couple of times and they've always been fresh, what's the best way to consume. Is it best to chew them for as long as possible? I'm not to fussed about making a more pleasant drink or anything like that as I'm too lazy! Is it enough for two for a mild trip? Ta

^^ 2 is nowhere near enough for a mild trip mate, I've always eaten an eigth which has given me a nice trip. You should wait to here some other people's comments though, it's also worth adding that each mushroom can vary in strength!

A mushroom drink is far from pleasent!

^^ cheers mate.. I don't think I worded it very well, I meant will the 8th be enough for two people to have a mild trip?? I've just been offered some more though so I can get more if necessary??

Hello Bluelight,

Today a patch of mushrooms caught my eye on the way home - they looked just like liberty caps but they were growing out of a wood chip type of area.

I have nearly 10 years experience with mushrooms & have gone picking for wavy caps (psilocybe cyanascens) but have only ever had libertys shared with me 2 or 3 times & i know my companions always pick them on farms. Furthermore all the pics on erowid show libertys growing out of grass only. That plus the actual caps always seem to look slimy.

These look exactly like libertys except the cap is dry & they grow out of woodchippings.

I'd post a pic but i doubt i could find a camera.

I've never once picked liberty caps, or seen liberty caps growing from woodchippings

I've seen lots of mushrooms that look kinda similar [from the height of a person on a bicycle, looking downward], growing from bark chippings though

if i go past them in the next few days, I'll take a picture of them and post it

best, nonscientific, nonbotanist guess, based on the info you've posted? they're more than likely not liberty caps

tomorrow morning will possibly be my last opportunity to go shroom hunting, given it's meant to be getting colder and frost is getting more frequent. to take advantage of this I need to be up at 7am [!] and be back running errands elsewhere for 11am. not sure how I'm gonna extract myself from my quilt at such an unreasonable hour and be on the wolds for 8am to give me a few hours to forage, but if i don't go I know I'll kick myself for being such a sloth, come January.

pray for me BL peeps. and somehow make sure I'm up and at em, kthnx <3

some pics from last week:

I was informed about the existence of these beauties by a buddy last week, and that they were growing near to where i forage ... apparently it's blackthorn, and these are sloe berries? and you can turn them into a port like liqueur over a fairly short number of weeks? Anyone here ever managed to do that? ...

if it's fairly easy to do, I might see if there's any left to pick when I go out tomorrow. since it's been hurricane level winds all week, they'll of probably disappeared by now, but y'never know.

this carcass was slightly worse for wear than the week before, I was surprised it was still there. I was this close to bringing it home and sending it to mailmonkey to make some soup out of, but I didn't have a bag large enough =D

what an absolute beast:

started getting too dark to pick anything, but even though it was dusk, this baby stood out and waved at me just as I was about to hop over the last stile and get into the car

Was chatting to my mates mate on the weekend who goes picking in Kent every year. He said this year there was loads of people picking and a frikkin police helicopter landed to nick em all. Anyone every heard of this happening before?

No, never heard of it actually happening, heard all sorts of similar Chinese whispers though.

What sort of cunt stands there with a bag/hand full of shrooms and watches as a police helicopter slowly descends and makes it's landing, then continues to stand there watching with incriminating evidence in their hand while the officers get off the chopper and come over to nick them?

Also would a helicopter be justifiable for police looking for shroom pickers, it's a hefty budget just to get one airborne. Or was the chopper on another job? Heading to a serious RTA maybe, and they just saw some people in a field and decided to forget the RTA on the offchance the people in the field are picking shrooms and are dumb enough to stand there gawping while the chopper makes its landing?

These sort of stories never quite add up to me, it's always a mate of a mate of me sister's mate's cousin too.

there are a ton of RAF bases near me, so I regularly hear various type of low flying craft and have ceased being paranoid about it. Ive never heard of what you mentioned above happening either tho. seems like a ludicrous waste of time to me. naturally being prepared, it wouldnt freak me out either, even if someone tried to jump out of a fence, covert style to wrestle me to the ground [lol, these are the paranoid fantasies one dreams about when youre freezing your arse off and only have shaunie sheeps for company =D] I'd still be alright, due to my 'set up'.

If a helicopter DID try to land, there'd be no running from me. I struggle to run at the best of times, and once had to escape from a herd of 20 cows galloping towards me, which wasnt fun. leaping a barbedwire gate isn't a very Marmz thing to do. Re the copter tho, I'd be sure to walk up to it and start 'papping' whomever hopped out with my rather cheap, but DSLR looking fuji. hahaha! not even kidding. I'll keep a description of the rest of my walking kit under wraps tho, kthnx. Pretty sure I'm more than a little covered tho and have covered all angles.

sorry muttonchops, didn't mean to sound like I was doubting you, and I don't doubt some pickers in a field once saw a police helicopter, maybe it even flew a low circle, but I really think these tales are exaggerated.....police couldn't justify this as an operation in its own right, or even as a detour from a more serious incident...

I dunno, might be true, but i doubt even the police would expect people to stand round waiting to be arrested, so by exetension, doubt they'd even attempt a landing.

nah, its cool, I'm not sure i totally believed him. He made out like he saw it land and legged it, but it could have just as easily been someone else had told him the story and he portrayed it as first hand info. Such are these Chinese whispers.

Aye seems like a huge waste of police money, can imagine getting pretty fucked while eating the evidence though =D
Might go out in a minute, it rained like a motherbitch last night and it's pretty cold.

Consider me jealous marmalade!

I don't believe that helicopter story for a moment. Flying them is very expensive, landing off of a helipad is risky, especially with people on the landing "pad". They wouldn't stand a chance in hell of catching anyone, they would be FAR better off surrounding the field with cars, if they could.

Finally, they would LOVE to get a bust like that in the news, we'd know about it.

I believe it. The police, especially copter coppers, are itching for a chance to nick anybody they can. Those whorefaced swine get a kick out of it & go for it justified or not.
