Mushroom Season 2011 UK / Ireland / Anywhere else

Could someone help me ID this? Originally was pretty sure it was a lib, but just looked around at some more photos and now don't think so

Problem is around here, there are lots of similar-looking shrooms that have a flat cap and are slightly paler in colour, but still have the nipple. Are they poisonous or anything? Since I think it's inevitable that im gonna pick a few up. Don't have a photo of em at the moment, will try and get one up next few days.

Hi nAON, I 'know' you from BDD Social! Good to see you getting around.

From the colour of the gills that's not a lib, but the cap looks strikingly similar. I can see it'd be easy to bag up a few of those accidentally along with some libs.

I'd check the Shroomery or a similar resource for tips on identification. A great read if you're interested is Paul Stamets' Psilocybin Mushrooms Of The World, which gives a breakdown of the different mushrooms by geographical location, including deadly lookalikes.

Of course there's no substitute for experience when it comes to mushroom picking so it'd help massively to take somebody along, but it's not always possible or desirable.

that looks like it could possibly be a sterile lib, but I've never come across them myself. read and saw pics about them from a guy at shroomery, earlier in the year, until then, i'd never heard of them

if I get chance later, i'll see if i can find a link to the pics of one he posted

I wouldnt eat it <3

Sams right thats not a lib. Never eat something with white gills. Those particular fungi grow close to the shrooms in my field. I ate a few when I first started picking. They wont kill you if you consume a few but youll get a sore tongue and its not pleasant.

Hope you find some soon. Its very wise to take photos nAON. I'm sure there will always be someone here to help you identify your findings until you get confident.

Hai Sam =D

This was actually the most 'lib-like' shrooms I found, were quite a few more more flat-capped ones that I originally thought were libs, so I got quite excited when I saw this one :p. And the gills weren't totally white - they had a dark, greyish, almost black tint, as though under the white surface they were darker coloured.

Guess i goto go out looking a bit more. At least we've had good weather recently :P

Over here in Bucks we've just had about a week of rain and mist ;)

whereabouts you located?

gotto say, the mushrooms really delivered for me this year. so many fantastic experiences. i love you Psilocybe semilanceata.

Another disappointing year for me. Been two years now since I had a big haul.

Where are you 33hz?

Yeah I think its been a couple of years for most people. Especially in the South. The year that it rained permanently in the
Summer was bountiful since then its been something of a mushroom famine hasnt it? At least for libs anyway.

nAOn my field is in Bucks haha.. hmm what part of Bucks are you in. ( feeling territorial now about 'my' shroom field.) :D

Allo MM

Where are you 33hz?

Right on the south coastline.

And, yeah. I Remember literally hoping over the barbwire fence two years ago at my local spot and pretty much landing in a huge patch of libs. Didn't even have to look around. The following year I spent about 3 hours looking each time I went and only found a handful of 'em. This year, not even one! Oh well, at least there's O-Acetylpsilocin.

Same ere!
Very insightful, rewarding & smiley trips this season. :)

Pity there was only a short 2-3 week window for picking but you just gotta stock up when they pop up!

Went out to some local fields today, no luck. I haven't had libs for 2 years now its so upsetting :(

Yellow, i'm near Amersham. What bout you? I dunno if my field is any good, but it's right next to my house and I walk my dog there, so mostly convenience purposes :P
