i guess i could allways starty a new thread on these weirder topics. what do you think psilo, or any else that wants to amswer.

Sure. All that's ever asked is you stick to the forum guidelines & BLUA and use a bit of common sense with regards to the value of the topic :)

Looking like I may have to get my arse out there. I usually don't even bother going until late April/early May when I am confident I will get results. Might just pop out for a hunt on the weekend.

These finds have taken a few people by surprise but if you check the 2009 mushroom thread it was exactly the same day last year that the first major hauls took place :)

If you're in Melb especially the s.e i'd be checking any patches that retain water. The more open areas wont fruit for a couple more weeks but i have confirmed pickings from all over east Melb so you wont be wasting your time soldiers...

^ Cheers for the heads up mate, I do appreciate it.

Pretty random it was the exact same day last year. I am in the South Eastern suburbs but my area doesn't seem to really come up till May. Maybe I am just looking in the wrong places but it seems unlikely because I know the area really well and am pretty sure I have it well sussed out. Either way it doesn't really matter, I can certainly wait a few weeks if I have to but it would be ncie to stumble upon some this week.

They are funny little buggers

Patches within 100m with the exact same grow mediums and climate can fruit 5-6 weeks apart

Some parts of melb are currently going off but i bet there are plenty of area that wont fruit till late this month or even may

ok guys and gals, you know how i had that dream about them growing from wood. last nidght, the same thing, yet thist time in the dream i was kneeling over, picking this mushie , staight from the root of a tree, that looked weoird, unrecognizable, yet i instinctively knew it was active. very similar dream to the other night, yet different.

anyway i didnt really think about it, as there has been no rain, and i am not driving 175 kms again for piddly pickins.

anyway, today, i took my kids to the park, anf we fed the ducks at the river, there are these gorgeous, 700 yr old river redgums, and as we walked passed one...............well..............
you wont , (well you should) ,
believe what i found today, and have used shroomery to id.

gymnopilus spectabilus.

even tho they say its from americas. i must have found an aussie one. goin blue and all.

man, i cant help it. these things just happen. i will post pic in morning, as camera is in babys room.
and i only just remembered about it, retrieved it from car and went on shroomery.

exactly as they look on that site.

i once found another mushie in a native forest that was an active, but have never been able to id. weird hey.

so , has anyone else found gym before, and if so, what were the strengths like. this thing is way blue, yet it is still very young. i should have left it but was too excited. the blue, being psilocyben oxidising, makes this thing look potent.

anyway, im gonna look for more tommorro.

and i most certainly am gonna eat this thing.

unless, i get told by someone who knpws better, not, or that they are dangerous.

i have not found any indication of danger yet, so heres hopin alls well.

man, i love the thrill, of finding normal actives, but, far out brussell sprout,

finding laughing gym for the first time has been a kicker,

especially because i dreamt it first.

pay attention to your dreams peoples.

It's said that the subs we get in southern Aus have an alkaloid content of 0.45%

Personally I believe some mushrooms are a bit stronger than that and many are actually....

Thanks heaps for that PsiloSubNaut.
I'll keep researching some more too but that has helped a lot.
I guess maybe I'll stick to a safe half a gram for the first time. Coz I'm quite a head case without drugs already lol So I just wanna take the lightest threshold dose that I can.

Just a couple more questions. You said 1 gram would be 2.2mg of psilocybin, but 0.45% of 1 gram is 4.5%
Or have I calculated that wrongly or missed something?
Also you said that some can be stronger, how much stronger? Like could a mushroom possibly contain way more than expected? Like 1% or 2% or more?

Thanks mate!

i just ate a tiny piece then, tases very nice, like a gourmet mushroom, which reassures me, and confirms its not a gymnoplius, as they are said to tase foul. tho a lot of people say subs are foul, yet i love them.

i can tase wether a mushie is active or not, and i think i can even smell it. i have been able to smell them, just walking around, not even looking for them.

like, mmmmmmmmm, thats smells like subs/ cyans, oh wow, there they are. no shit.

anyway, i will let yall know later on. gotta go to playgroup with my kids. this will be fun.

the bit that i ate is workin just now. completly safe i say. am gonna eat the rest in 45 minutes if i havent died.haha

sorry the shroom is all broken up.

i will be back at the park later, when we leave play group. so i hope to find more.

I drempt last night that i was at my primary school and there were mushrooms everywhere, so i was picking them. Ending up getting bags full then i saw another person picking them who was an older lady. I went onto bluelight to tell people i was picking millions when i saw a livestream happening from someone, and i looked over and the lady was holding her camera out! so then we talked about bluelight and started picking mushrooms together.

..Then I bought a pair of shoes.

congratulations psynapsurfa, thus you have entered into the prestigious class of "completely uneducated fool who bioassays unidentified fungi in the mistaken belief that it will get him high".

you have eaten an unknown species of blue staining bolete, none of which have ever been found to contain psilo- compounds. the bluing reaction is an oxidisation of a completely different compound.

http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/jul2003.html

the fact that you initially id'd this as Gymnopilus spectabilis further indicates that you unable to make even the most basic of differentiations between extremely morphologically distinct families of fungi.

good thing you have those amazing senses of taste and smell that can sniff out actives, because you are quite obviously blind.

Blue staining does NOT indicate activity.
Pleasant taste does NOT indicate edibility.

At least this family is not known for having too many acutely toxic members, although one fatality has been recorded after ingestion of Boletus pulcherrimus.

Please report back on your 'experience', so that this case of foolishness has at least some form of halfassed research value.

Found these a couple of days ago in Melbourne SE suburbs. Pretty tasty and plenty more from where they came from. It's going to be a magical season!

Ditto'

Welcome to bluelight and thanks very much for that mushroom

I got the same reply from a mycologist I emailed earlier

Thinking that bluing is a sign of an active can and WILL KILL YOU!!!

I have seen countless inactive mushrooms bruise blue over the years

Stick to known psilocybe species unless you are a well trained mycologist

Psynapsurfa, what would your kids think if you died from eating the wrong mushroom? I certainly don't think you would be put in a hall of fame :\

Nice finds bikey

Looks like they were lacking moisture for a day or 2 before you picked them

This seems to be the case with most recent finds

Hopefully we get some more rain to keep these patches fruiting. I am keen to get my nose into some S.E Melb subs this weekend :D
