Mushroom season 2010

Should be well and truly up after this weekend, I have still been a slack bastard, probably smokign too much weed haha. I really hope to get my ass out there next week as from the weather and certain reports it seems like it should be good. Its always nice to strike gold early in the season to avoid more sustained picking efforts to get a big haul.

Happy hunting everyone!

I've removed and edited some posts stating amounts picked. There's no need to broadcast how much you've picked or how much is in your possession.

Just try and keep it discrete guys!!! :)

There were pools of water on the ground in the S.E. Melbourne Suburbs on Sunday. There was definitely good rainfall. After looking in the right substrate and in the right conditions I found lots of little look-a-like mushrooms. I found a couple of different varieties. None turned blue. No subs this time. I'm guessing the weather is too hot?!?

How cold do we need we need during the night and day to get the subs to grow, anyone?

They are already fruiting as we speak! You just need to find the right places as certain patches flourish at different times. Some start earlier than others depending on localised rainfall.

The mycellium really just needs to sense a reduction in temperature + receive rain and they'll begin fruiting.....but generally daytime temps under 18-20c and night time under about 15c but there are some variances from normal!

Finally... I got to personally check out the SE of Melb

About half the patches I checked on Sunday had subs but many didn't even have look alikes as it was just too dry from recent warm weather.

The one patch that was fruiting very nicely, only had subs on the lowest/wettest area (close to a pond) and the rest of the garden bed was filled with look alikes.

There was hundreds of pins that will be ready to pick in 3-5 days

I can see why some people still aren't finding them. I walked 2km of a track that was full of them in May last year and only saw 3 Amanita's. This was the wettest spot I found and there was none so I recommend covering a few different area's when it's this early in the season.

The ones I got were extremely potent! We were trying to dose for a medium strength trip (fresh mushies are very hard to dose) and it was well and truly a high dose trip.

Good times! :)

I have spotted lots of Amanita muscarias and basically no subs around my area. Cold and it has been raining basically all day today so hopefully some start popping up soon...

I'm in NW Melb and it's not looking good in this area. Should be some subs sprouting up in the next couple of weeks if this cold wet weather keeps up.

There has been a bit of rain today and over the last couple of days but no where near the amounts in the east. The Otway ranges block a large % of the rain that would otherwise reach the west of Melbourne. This is why the east gets them before the west.

fuck been working too much, I LIVE in the S.E suburbs, and haven't had a single chance to go picking yet >.< Hopefully get to go tomorrow, wait and see I suppose :P

Good to see your face again Ekstasis =D

Found a patch of mushrooms this evening that are completely identical in appearance (and smell) to subs, just white top and gills, no spores dropped at all.
There's reports of this on The Shroomery and they are referred to as 'sterile', meaning they don't drop spores to reproduce. Unfortunately these were the only mushrooms I found that were worth picking.

Once my camera charges I'll take some photos. I'm doubting that they're active, but has kept me interested for the past hour or so.

How many did you eat? I usually go for just one or two these days with fresh ones, even that can be wildly unpredictable.

So my best early season spot is right behind a mate of mines house, called round to pick up some buds today and figured we had might as well check her out. Wasn't a damn thing there, no pins or nothing. There were no inactives either but for some reason this spot seems to fruit subs exclusively.

After seeing how dry that spot was I will probably leave it another week and see how the weather goes. No rush anyway I suppose. A mate reported a bunch growing on his front lawn but I couldn't be fucked checking it out as it was a tad out my way.

The subs from the patch we hit are notoriously small but very potent

I made a tea for 4 of us using 30-40 small mushrooms (caps 15-25mm, stems 20-30mm)

Fresh mushrooms are the hardest to dose.

With well versed trippers, such as the friends I was with on Sunday night, I go for roughly 10 per person and that dose is 50/50 medium/strong

You just never know whats going to happen as you come up on fresh mushrooms. Sometimes you feel them and it slowly gets visual but not much more. Other times you feel them and rocket to an intense peak within 20 minutes as you wonder why the 10 mushrooms you ate last weekend didn't get you anywhere near as fucked as the 2 you ate 20 minutes ago 8o

To get an even potency for dosing your best bet is to dry your mushrooms and powder them

thumbs up psilo ;D

I had a look around some of my area (outer e melb) yesterday and couldn't manage to find anything. I have a friend who has been successfully picking last year so hopefully will get out with him this week or next..

I had an opportunity to take a walk today & they're out there. Lots of pinning and a reasonable number of mature fruit. Didn't bother picking any, I feel to many people are getting into the shroom hunting these days & I have seen a remarkable drop in the size and number of patches over the past 10 years.

I try to leave at least 50% to mature and rot to ensure the patch continues until the mulch decomposes (usually around 3 years).

Anyhow... there you go. Let the frenzy begin.
