Mushroom Season 2007

just wondering if the spore prints left on paper or actual spores or if its like just something else
 
Just a few more grabbed on the way home from tafe, gonna go back after exams and grab the rest.

Hahaha yeah! Nah i picked them and chucked my folio on the back of my tray (i drive a ute) and poured them all out on there to do a second ID of them all (i always do this, im too rushed when picking them.) So yeah, i didnt want bits of mushroom smeared across my tray cover.

I find that P. Subaeruginosa loves the cold frosty nights. I see alot more around after a few really icy nights.

I have noticed ice or frost damaged mushroom in the high country after really cold nights but for the most part frosts are good, they mean mushroom season is upon us!

im hoping someone is online atm...
im conducting a little experiement and was wondering out of three what the best option would be.

using ground soil from a patch close by im filling a box/container and covering it with folage etc, basically anything in the conditions of the patch
i have a few spores in a container and also spore prints from leaving the caps on paper overnight which i have cut out.
what i want to know is, where should i put these cutouts.

i considered 3 choices

1. place the cutouts spore side up just below the surface so a small amount of soil is covering

2. place the cutouts spore side up on top of the soil so they are between the ground level soil and folage on top

3. place the cutouts spore side down between the ground level of soil and folage

and then water of course

any help would be great as im bout to complete everything now just wanted to know the optimium choice in hoping to get a little something out of this experiment

I would say the chances of you getting subs to grow that way are slim to none. Spores aren't like seeds in the fact that you can't just 'plant' them and wait for shrooms to grow. They need perfect conditions, difficult to replicate.

Found my first load of P. Subs a couple of days ago in Auckland, the freezing nights are really helping things along and now that another good dose of rain is imminent, our fungi friends should flourish :D!

Cyans dont grow in NZ or Australia. They would have been P. Subs or P. Aucklandii, probably subs. You need to realise that subs vary alot in appearance, from region to region.

So much so that for example, South Australian subs can be completely different to victorian subs.
