The results of a half hour search in the bush. Tassie shrooms are hell powerful at the moment. Maybe its because i havent got any tolerance yet. Wish the season would hurry up for you northerners. Its worth the wait.

Happy hunting

Tassie subs look very different. I have only seen Tassie subs in one particular spot it Melbourne and theres very few of them. Love the colour!

We had some rain this evening, planning to go hunting later today. Can anyone link me a good thread for how to find, identify and not rape patches for Australia? I live in south east NSW, I think it's mainly blue meanies and gold caps here. I can't seem to sort through the hundreds of mushroom threads to find the one I'm looking for...

Is it best to pick in the evening or the morning? I am still trying to find a good thread for beginner pickers in Australia.

Just had word that Auckland has begun sprouting...will confirm for myself in about an hour

Goldtops are starting to pop up in welly, so most probably aucks too!! the weathers been very cold+misty at night then a nice blue sky in the morning, managed to find only a couple small goldtops in the usual areas I go to, so thats a good sign. Id say over the next few weeks should start getting alot better. My mate told me today the city council have sprayed all the public 'bark' gardens with anti fungi whatever stuff, hmm... Will post a pic when I get a digicam..

n.b. I usually go shroom hunting about 5 to 6am, cos once the sun shines they tend to go all gunky/slimey.. Heh, just a thought..

My patches in auckland have been literally bone dry...not even any moisture at all on there, but there are confirmed reports of actives in west auckland...blame the erratic weather conditions across the city methinks, but east auckland is a definite no way atm

Had a look around some of Melb's parks this morning and couldn't spot any. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack :(

Found the absolute mother load today. Will post pics when i go back to pick them, still too small. I reckon once mature there will be around 600-700 in total.

Eastern suburbs melbourne.

^^ holy wack!!

i went out for a look earlier, didnt find any. saw a few other types thou, couple of those big bright red ones. i think i might have gone out too early after the rain last night. im in gippsland btw. ill go have another look later in the week no doubt.

^ yea mee too i went to round nere puffing william area didnt find shit. found other shrooms, tho i saw 1 Sub

hdang, one thing i have found over the couple of years that i have been hunting, is if those red mushrooms that look like subs are growing (I think they are Stropharia Aurantiaca) then i have almost ALWAYS found subs nearby. They seem to like the exact same conditions.

^Yeah i found those and, no subs, perhaps the spot got raped or something. altho there neva was really that many there last time, i dont know maybe its not a good spot.

any threads for beginners? tried to search but found nothing too great regarding located, picking, 'cooking' etc

Like mentioned in the first post this is not the place to ask how to find mushrooms. Any further questions will be removed, if you don't know what your looking for find someone who does before you go. Sites like the shroomery or the stack of threads around bluelight are a good start.

The first and last time this thread will be linked:

Mushy season opener

To all those people posting your locations I suggest you make them very very vague.
