They CAN earn that much if they CAN find a job in the first place and if it happens to pay well. That doesn't mean you're guaranteed to find a job.
Most of those jobs aren't exactly in high demand, the people who get work in them excel at what they do. Not anyone can be a tattoo artist or welding or roofing, it all requires SKILL that some people simply don't have.
Let's look again...
Construction - Pays well if you work 80 hours a week or have been in it long enough to not get a shitty clean up or manual labor job.
Welding - Like I said, pays well IF you can even get a job, and you have to be good to get one of the better jobs.
Chill out there man i dont know what got you so riled up.
1. Welding IS in high demand. iunow where you live. im in the US and on the east coast. there is construction out the ass here. Also for females they are DYING for female welders because there are hardly any in that trade so if youre a girl with a certification in the union youre almost guaranteed in.
Starting wage is 18/hr if not more, depending where you work.
The unions hook you up and if you join a union there is a very very good chance of you having a job almost right after your certification and apprenticeship. The unions dictate the pay rates and employers can choose to pay more but not less. it aint "well you gotta get a really good job to be able to pull good loot", they HAVE to pay you a certain amoutn base pay if youre in the union, this aint some elite-skill shit.
I have done welding before ive worked with MIG and arc welding as well as oxy acetylene torch work, but aint certified because i was doing that when i was 15 and still in school. there is the experience you requested
Roofing - Again, need to be skilled and make a name for yourself, if you do a shitty job repairing someones roof leaks you can consider your reputation shot and any chance of word of mouth gone.
Likek i said about my man who isa roofer:
No, you dont need experience to get in. Most construction jobs start at 10/hr. with no expeireence at all. like i said before, here in some place they hire mexicans who dont even speak english and sit around half the day 12-16 /hr under the table.
He is making 11.50/hr and started 1.5 months ago, he started at 10. hes abotu to make naother raise soon. All he does is bring shit up and down off the roof and take care of the materials on the ground, undloading the truck, etc. Hes ground crew manager and got 2 "bitches"/slave laborers underneath him that gotta listen to whatever he tells them to do and thtst the position he started out in. aagin, 1 1/2 months now hes the manager.
Do you know what you are talking abuot, because you dont need to be the ownew of a roofing company to make money. YUO dont make a name for yourself as a shingler dawg. do you think that just one or 2 or 3 guys goes up on teh roof and does the work? no. there is 15-20 people on any iven day on the roof and thats just in one location. most roofers work in severeal different spots and got different crews on each. You work for a company. the comany has the name. YOU dont need to make the name yfor yourself you work for the company. As a shingler, again, not someone who is owner/high rank, you make 25/hr.
Tattoo Artist - Do I even need to say anything? Really skilled position, limited demand by FAR.
but is it not still a well paying job that dont requre college that offers you a great chance to use your cretivity and follow what you love, if youre into art and that culture.
Custom Auto - And again, you need to be GOOD at what you do before anyone is going to give you money or hire you to work on a customers car.
Again this is why you work for someone who has a established shop you dont just wake up in the morning and have a autobody shop.
You seem confused about a lot of this shit because you keep talking about how you cant have your own shop and need a reputatin and etc. but almost completely ignore the face that you work FOR somebody.
Airbrushing - One last time, highly skilled position, good luck even finding work.
No, think again. airbrushing because of the new surge i ncustom auto interest and all types of customizing is a field tahts growing very fast. there is a lot of work and the added bonus of if you are actually talented and love art, and not just some crappy ass wanna be artist who is in it cuz they think it could make them loot, you can easily make your own project on the side of doing work for friends, people you work with, family, people they show it to, etc. you would be suprised how fast word of mouth goes. that iant something to support yourself on alone but i am saying there is more money there and youre straight discredting that. know your facts man befor you start gettin mad and talkin shit.
All of these jobs become profitable because you're such a bad-ass at it that people are like, "Oh shit man, you gotta call this guy Bob.. he's dope!"
Honestly, I hate to break it to you but $25 an hour isn't that much anymore. Sure, it's enough to get by and with over-time it's even better but do you want to work 60 hours in shitty conditions to "get by"?
No, this aint true. First part.
No one calls a consctuction worker because they think s/he is "badass." They call them because they need a job done. and with all the homes, businesses, schools, warehouses, new conscruction, and other developments going on today, esp. in New Jerz the capital of over development, there is ALWAYS someone who needs some kind of contracting job done. the work is there. people need it done. they call contrating business.
Second part, dont treat your own standard of living as someone elses. 25/hr is NOt bad pay. it AINT "nothing." and you aint gotta bust your ass for 60 hours a week to take home a decent check. A 40-hour week at that rate is ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS A WEEK man. i woudl call that decent. What do you want? 3,000 a week? what do you need that bad? maybe you got alot of debt or somethign to pay off but if you cant make 1,000 a week support yourself and THEN SOME, then the problem aint with your job but your budgeting skills.
if you made 80,000 a year as a graphic designer or psychologist you would only be making 500 extra dollars per week than the person doing construction.
You are saying these things about what is enough or not enough like they are true for everybody when really its just you and the face that you seem to want more than you need, and by that i dont even mean food water, i mean other things youd like to have, playstation, car, air conditioning, cable tv, stereo, etc as well. still that shit wouldnt all add up to a grand or more a week.
You want your lifestyle to include all this high end shit or conform 2 a certain level that you have set the standard at, so to YOU maybe that aint shit, but to many other people, its MORE than getting by. dont treat your world as if its everybody elses. you are speaking about yourself not everybody else here so try not to forget that there are peopel living all diffrent ways, and to many of us, 25/hr with no college degree is a very good deal.
The reason jobs like that pay well is because the people working in them BUST THEIR ASSES to make money and they are VERY GOOD at what they do. You don't walk into a custom auto shop as an 18 year old who has never worked with cars before and start making $50 an hour, you start off making minimum wage cleaning up shit and being everyones bitch until you learn enough to actually help and work your way up. It's the same in any job your work in, except by getting training first you get the skip the bullshit minimum wage learn how to anwser phones and clean bathrooms position.
Do you even read the want ads in your local newspaper?
"auto tech wanted. exp. preferred but nt necessary. will train. starting rate 16/hr with benefits. call _____" "custom auto body shop looking for intern/laborer for possible long term position. no experience necessary, must be quick learner. work includes restoration, engine, salvage. serious inquiries only. call ________" "Auto tech wanted, 2 years trade/tech school req. starting pay 18/hr. heavy lifting required, knowledge of diesel engines and systems a must. call _____"
the "ansering phones" position is for the secretary. even been in an atuo shop? some of them they guys who work there answer the phone. I been in plenty that got a girl at the desk answering phones. you dont go to school for 2 years to trade schoo to do that. the whole point of trade school is that once youre out you are prepared to go directly into the work force of your trade.
Lacey K, you lectured me about life on the street and how it's all about living the hard life so you become stronger and blah blah blah, but you don't even have a car? Have you even had a job that payed more than minimum wage before?!
Yes...i make 8.75 an hour....i started out as a typist for when peopel went in press releases and we needed to enter the info into the system. then moved up to page layout but i quit and then came back so now im doingg a new job there, ad design. i work at a local paper that owns 9 papers in jersey NY and Pa. nope i never graduated high school or went to college but yes i do ad design. i make corrections to existing ads and build new ads according to clients requests.
before that i worked in 2 deli's and made more than minium wage as well. i raher work there i hate the office but, its the job i got right now.
My uncle is a carpenter, my other uncle is a glazer, my other uncle is an electrician, my father repaired office equipment before retiring, my grandpa made molds for pouring aluminum, my mother works in human resources, my father also worked in a steel mill, and my other grandpa worked in a lumber mill.
what is this the contracting dickszing contest. good for you.
my dad owned his own deli, my uncle is a mechanic, my other uncle owns his own auto body shop, my great grandfather was a mason and a mechanic, my grandfather owned his own auto shop, my great uncle owned his own auto shop, my man has been mason his whole life and is now a roofer, my grandmother worked in and eventually bought the silkscreening company she worked at, my mom worked in the company laying out screens and prep'ing the material as well as being a driver/delivery worker for them, do you want me to go on, i worked with welding when i was younger and was very close with my welding teacher who taught me a damn lot about the trade and the job opportunities.
so i also know a bit about the trades myself.
You know what I was thinking when I was in that warehouse after working 12 hours and barely being able to drive home cause my legs were so tired I couldn't even drive right? I was thinking.. What the FUCK am I doing here making $8 an hour to literally kill my body lifting heavy shit all day and running all over when I could be making $11 an hour to sit in a chair in an air conditioned office typing on a keyboard? And so I quit that day and never looked back, now I make all kinds of money and don't see any end to it soon. I'd tell you what I do but you'd call me a liar so I'll just say that I make $500,000 a year building UFOs on mars.
Hey man, you jsut said that 25 dollars an hour aint shit so dont go talkin about how sweet 11 is.
I told you where i work ,even tho people here would laugh thinkin of me working in a office. yes, i hate it, and yes, i dont fit in at all and i dont talk to or be friendly with anybody there or have any interest in doing that, but it is where i work, so i told you.
nobody even challenged you yet and you already said "well you wont believe me so i wont tell you"
THAT if anythign would lead people to not believe you, not just telling us straight up..
Either way, if you aer making 500,000 an hour then that is why you are so disrespectful to everybody on the issue of the hourly rate, because your ass is so used to making half a mil a year that you think all the extra shit you got is a necessity for life.
its aight because yu get accustimed to the lifestyle you lead,, if you make alot you spend alot and sytart to forget how life was before you had all these nice things. but dont act like a good extremely decent pay aint enough. Some millionaire fucker could talk down to you like "500,000 a year? that aint shit. Hate to break it to you, but even making 3,000,000 a year is nothing these days"
So just let it rest cuz you know youre wrong.
Those of you saying how some people don't want to go to school to sit in an office all day doing boring work, then why would you choose a major that puts you there?
not everybody does...thats why some of us dont go to college....i am in the job im at thru a series of weird situations....i could easily get a ride there so i stay there number one....two they are tryina 'diversify' where i work so hiring alot of young people and three, believe it or not , i am DAMN good at what i do there, so whether they love me or hate me, it dont matter because i get the work dont faster and better than anyone else working there that would fill in for me. yea i hate it and everyday cant wait to get out to the car and change my clothes right away. yea liek i said i dont fit in in any way at all but, its the job i got, so until i can drive and get one thats more suited to me its where im staying.
College educated doesn't mean you're a business lackey, it shows that you're smart enough, focused enough, and care enough to challenge yourself and strive to make yourself better.
Not going to college doesnt mean you're a labor lackey, it shows that you're smart enough, focused enough, and care enough to challenge yourself and strive to make yourself better because you have to put in work and self discipline to get to big places without a degree.
but who are you to say that one persons efforts to graudate and become a doctor are better or more worthy than someone elses efforts to get their GED, study under apprenticeship, work hard and start up their own business some day.
Basically, it shows that you're capable of more than picking up a hammer and hitting nails all day, which sounds pretty fucking boring to me.
Well from experience i knwo taht working in a office all day sounds pretty fucking boring to me, so, how bout we agree to disagree.
your whole post was hype and attempts at discrediting something that aint a unworthy or crappy thing.
Straight up, you CANT say one is better than the other man. I never tired to do that. i am just defending what people are basing with facts.
i unlike some peeps apparently, understand that there is diffrent strokes for different folks, and what is appealing to someone aint gonna be to someone else. it is al where your heart lies and what you are into and what you consider success or your need for certain things.
you can make enough money to get many fune luxury things working in a trade job if you move to the higher level. same as you can have those if you work in a office/college degree job, if you move to a higher level.
dont play it liek that becaue you know as well as i do that half the people out of college end up working shitty jobs anyways because they cant find openings in what they went to school for, and when they do bust into the field, they got no work expeirence so theyre doing internship shit anyways.
plus add all the debt and youre working your ass off anyways.
So i woudl say its a fair trade and its time for you to stop disrespecting those of us who dont agree with you just because you think your view on work and carreers is the end all be all.
i also appreciate your attempt to make me look bad while you just waited for me to come back with some type of "yea i work in mc donalds making 5.15 an hour, you got me there." sorry i couldnt help your case man.
This shit is gettin way too stupid.
a lot of people who were raised a certain way have certain beliefs abut things and college, fine. thats your world and in your world thats the truth. so its pointless to be arguing this shit because no matter what people are still gonna be hating and not want to recognize that you can succeed without a degree.it takes work but you can do it.
but people are too stuck onw hat they are saying to recognize the other side and its retarted for me to be arguing something that aint gotta be defended anymore just because people are saying bad shit about it. if you aint gonna recognize, you aint. so, fine, but, i aint about to waste anymore time debating it with yall.
