Movies everyone hates but you

^ a lot of people hate things they don't understand. :)

hisnameisfrank, you may find monty python boring but, to any reasonable observer, they were incredibly popular on both sides of the atlantic. also, a fish called wanda was very well received at the time, receiving both decent reviews and rewarded with good box office returns.

i'm interested to hear how either of those could be described as something "everyone hates"?

I know a lot of people who hate all British humor.

They hate ALL British humor? Those people... those not from the UK, at least, probably haven't even seen more than a fraction of television or movies from the UK, let alone enough to judge the kingdoms entire contribution to the world of comedy.

:p

I was surprised to see that one mentioned as well. I saw it in the theatre, and at the time it was probably the funniest movie I had ever viewed. When it came out on video, I had my brother watch it and he absolutely hated it. Found nothing at all amusing about the movie, and he still brings it up at times when he feels the need to point out awful movie suggestions I've given him. I guess it really just shows how subjective taste can be.

I wouldn't have put them in this thread. They belong in a Movies everyone likes but you thread. I understand them, but I still don't like them. Just like Star Wars sequels and prequels. Yes,I get them. I understand them. That doesn't mean I have to like them.

im a sucker for a good chick/drama flick; but am yet to meet someone who shares my same dorky taste. movies ive loved that others have hated are:

- heathers (my fav in high school).
- fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe
- steel magnolias
- terms of endearment
- on golden pond
- divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood

If you were a straight guy and you were talking about how none of your guy friends understood your taste, I could see this post belonging in this thread.
But for fuck sake, On Golden Pond was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture! Terms Of Endearment fucking WON Best Picture! But all of those were extremely successful when they came out. At least among a certain demographic +35 women and to a lesser extent men.

Unbreakable is a fucking quality movie. Thing is, I have never met anybody who hated it and am surprised to see it mentioned here!

how does everybody hate unbreakable? seriously?

it gets 7.2/10 at imdb and 68% at rottentomatoes.com. it's so not a movie everybody hates!

is the concept of the thread that hard to understand?

:\ :)

This thread is supposed to be about movies that are legendary for being bad. critically lambasted and/or box office trainwrecks. Waterworld and Pearl Harbor are perfect examples.
Some people are treating this thread as more of a "Movies I like that my friends have never heard of". "Movie I like that weren't huge blockbuster successes". Or "movies I like which are very un-cred".
Yeah, i know that "movies everyone hates" is a bit of hyperbole. But Jesus, some of you are naming CLASSIC movies.

Alasdairm has the right idea. People should do a quick IMDB and rotten tomatoes check before posting their picks. Especially if you're too young to remember when it first came out.
I'm guilty of it myself as when I looked it up, I found that A.I. was a lot better received by than I thought.

Oh well. Here's another one I like: Hudson Hawk.

ok mr pedantic..... :X ;) this thread can be simplified to subjectivity, and perhaps everyone they know hates em, so be it.

ok, to humor ali, i found some pretty badly reviewed movies from IMDB that i love. here they are

jack frost. i watch it every time is comes on around christmas time and still love it. not sure why. 4.5 on imdb

hackers wtf, how the hell does that only get a 5.7?! pffft.

flowers in the attic, only a 4.7?

i don't trust IMDB anymore :p

hackers had a .5 second shot of a topless angelina jolie. for that it deserves at least a 7.

Sorry, my memory of this movie coming out was most reviewers saying it was a disappointing follow-up to "the Sixth Sense". Apparently my memory of this film having a bad reputation was wrong. Next time I'll check multiple website ratings and with the moderators before putting forth my opinion.:\

How about this: The performance art masterpiece that is "Freddy Got Fingered". Who could forget the scene with Tom Green and the horse? Or the scene where he slices a dead moose open and runs around with it on? Or the scene where he flings the baby around with it's umbilical cord? Or the disabled girlfriend who got turned on by being whacked in the legs with a rod? The Onion had it right when it said it's a film for the YouTube era a few years before it's time.
