Agree with SinCity = Great movie;

Disagree with = Movie of the year (year isn't over yet); and

What is with Napoleon Dynamite. For every person that has told me they love this film I have another telling me they hate it.

I will never know though... everytime I go to hire the DVD it is NEVER THERE!!!

I saw Friday Night Lights on the weekend, I got it because of the write up's it got.

I must say I wasn't really impressed whatsoever, it was an "alright" movie. But compared to what I had heard, it was nothing.

Billy Bob plays a relitively boring role. With limited support from anyone else. The movie started out as having a really good story line, which just faded away. It's just another high school football movie, it doesn't rank at all with Remember the Titans (one of my personal favs) or Any Given Sunday.

Witch Doctor made me Sin City... *sighs* what a waste of money... oh i think he paid.. =D

haha, i believe it was the roullete table that paid for it :)

and while im around, i thought sin city was a kick ass movie, best ive seen so far this year (tho i havent seen that many really).

i watched Garden state the other day. I really enjoyed it, it just kind of flipped through what it had to say, and let you absorb it at your own pace... I can't be screwed writing more than this, but i really liked it. 8/10

Yesterday i watched City of God and ohmigod it's brilliant! Brilliant brilliant movie - if you can bear to read subtitles for a whole film - get it. It's kind of like pulp fiction in how the different scenarios are depicted and shown as seperate stories - kind of like chapters. But, it's just really good - pretty violent - but, it's worth it. 9/10

I too have als seen Sin city it was like, a week or so ago now, but i really enjoyed it. I think the whole visual presentation of the film was what really got my mind going. Visually it was stunning. But on the whole another really good film. 7.5-8/10

Garden State had moments of brilliance (ie - the opening scenes) but then denegrated into a mash of corniness.

Yes, I attempted to leave my cynicism at the door - I'm an uncharacteristic fan of romantic comedy/romance ;)

But if Natalie Portman plays a victim in one more movie I am going to die...she makes me want to stab her in the jugular with every motivational pearl of wisdom/heartwrenching revelation about herself :X:X:X:X

Zach Braff WAS good, but I feel that Natalie's hamming it up in a big way performance undeservedly upstaged him :\ I think they should have got a more subtle actress....

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, I was soo looking forward too seeing this movie. I'm into querky type movies. So I hired it out. And now I pretty much want my 2 hours of life back.
I think i raised to a smile at best, in terms of how funny the move was. The flick just dragged. The only thing i think kept it alive, was owen wilson. And I dont think I'll ever figure out why our own Cate Blanchett took up the gig.

Posted this in the try something new thread because it was the first time I'd been to IMAX, but thought I'd add this review in here too:

We saw 'Aliens of the Deep', which was directed by James Cameron. It's all footage from deep sea exploration - up to 3500 metres. Some of the scenes were absolutely breathtaking, particularly seeing as it was in 3D. It's amazing that there are so many amazing lifeforms down there... still many yet to be discovered! NASA researchers were also involved in the project and the latter part of the film deals with hypothetical footage of what it could be like to explore further into outer space. On the basis of the organisms they have found in the deep sea, there is a belief that some of the oceans on other planets/moons may possibly have the conditions necessary to support life.

Watching the 3D was a bit of a strain on the eyes though - couldn't have handled much more than the 45 minutes.

deecee: did you like the royal tenenbaums?

Yes, I really liked that movie, I can see what you suggested that. But, The Life Aquatic, just didn't do it for me.

saw The Wedding Crashers last night. Quite funny...Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn work really well together and Isla Fisher and Rachel McAdams look hella hot. Not my movie of the year but worth it for a laugh, esp if you have weddings coming up (I have 2 this month).

It's not just about graphic sex

I watched 9 Songs the other week, just too see why it was going to be potential banned or cut back. And well, if they had of cut it back, it may as well be banned!

I've seen less graphic porno's. But it's not just about the sex. Its about the way the have sex and the emotions expressed through sex. Which demostrate the highs and the lows of a relationship til in the end, its demise.

I rate the movie, not highly, but it's your above average quality.

I saw The Skeleton Key last night at Greater Union for $5. It's meant to be a thriller but i didn't find it particularly scary. Rather amusing towards the end though, when the acting started getting really bad!

On a scale of 0-10 i'd give it a 6.
