here's my two cents on this...
i had a great time at the cave/USG4 last year MINUS someone breaking into my car and stealing ALL MY CLOTHING. and no one i turned to could do a damn thing about it, and the old hillbilly owner of the salt peter cave threatened me and my friends when we set up a tent next to our car when that wasn't allowed... well, how were we supposed to know?? the event overall was poorly organized, no information was given out, and there was no FIRST AID. and some one died. the first aid booth had a sign that said to "call 911" well too bad there was no cell phone service. oh yeah, and that old guy tried to charge us to camp next to some trees... basically, i did not feel safe at this venue and am glad this is moving...
to camp zoe. zoe is great, i've been there for a swagstock. it is really beautiful and there is a fun cave to climb into. BUT do be careful driving there, especially in the town of salem, make sure you go the speed limit, this venue usually pays the cops off to keep them out but they do like to patrol the roads hardcore, so don't look suspicious.. hopefully it will be safer here than at the last place which i'm sorry, that cave is not sacred...
all that being said, i'm probably not even going this year although I see bassnectar is probably going to be playing??
i still would like to track down who stole all my damn clothes, so if anyone knows anything, please let a sister know.

I think your experience was unique because I certainly did not see any of this douchebaggery. Me and my group were at the venue almost first on friday morning and had no problems parking (and both cars were completely left alone, despite being at the front of the parking lot). Also, why did you set your tent up in the parking lot? No wonder you got yelled at.
I think UGS4 was pretty chaotic, but it was a FAR CRY from unsafe. I've heard plenty of rumors of "OMG SOMEONE DIED AT THE CAVE" but I haven't seen any reports. Tom Foolery and the Catalytic Souls guys are stand up promoters and would not throw another event if UGS4 really went as bad as you say it did. Honestly, the "bad press" that UGS gets was actually worse for UGS3. I think the community (Carbondale, Murphysboro) have welcomed the event-goers because they tend to burn through the local gas stations and grocery stores, bringing in thousands of dollars that normally wouldn't be funneled into southern Illinois. I remember the news channels blowing up in 2007 for UGS3, but hardly anything was said about UGS4.
From what I've heard Zoe is a very clean and spacious event venue. I think Tom & Co were forced to move locations due to the shadiness that UGS has been known for. While I treasure the memories of the cave and am sad that I probably can't go because they moved it further away, I do understand that security NEEDS to be heavier or else bad things will happen. This is hard to accomplish at the cave with so many people coming out every year. It was only a matter of time before the party moved to a legal, bonafide venue. I'm not necessarily happy about it, but from a promoter's point of view, it makes perfect sense.
Tom, I really hope the lineup this year is as hot as I'm hoping. I need a reason to trek it out to Missouri. bassnectar would be a very good start![]()
I I've heard stories about that place being an old Indian burial ground and even though it was geologically really cool, it still made me think that we were disrespecting the dead.
the scary guy on the flyer is someone you know.
and tom... as if everything hasnt been decided.. i'm gonna be a tard and suggest that more psy/trance/chill be booked again.... simon p will be in the states this summer.. as will Ott... eat static.. bluetech... and electrypnose...
maybe?? 8)
I first want to thank catylitic souls for changing the venue. The people that own "the cave" are dickheads, plain and simple.
Atleast Zoe is spacious and has WATER running through (no more of my friends dying from heat exhaustion)
TomFoolery:
I wanted to say to you, that the main reason i said i would NEVER come back to the cave after last year was the BLATANT and HORRENDOUS drug use. The security didn't care of if kids were fucking dying in front of them. Hey i like drugs too, but security is there to show that there still is the possibility of us all going to jail ( see: Rave Act ) and that one person shouldn't be able to ruin the fun for everyone (overdosing of 100's of kids is fucking crazy for such a small scale event) . Hey its cool to be underground, i understand that. But when kids are being able to bring in (and sell without regard) we all lose out on the real experience of it all (regular people get harassed and kids act stupidly thinking its ok.
I love you guys don't get me wrong, but we need to keep it real man. Needless to say, im going to give UGS another try (ive been there for the past 4 years) traveling from baltimore maryland. I hope the lineup keeps it real, and you guys don't over saturate us with 100 different stages of locals. I love stages, but not so many that one dj has 3 people dancing (kind of disrespectful to the dj's that come out IMO)
