This was one of the common misconceptions that I heard from people. There was always someone who's mom had told them about their friends kid that took a xanax while on coke, and their heart didn't know what to do since they were on both an upper and a downer, and therefore their heart gave out and they died. 8(
I agree that the masking effect is the main danger when mixing the two, and you should never do a larger dose of either drug than you would normally do on their own. It's definitely hard to judge the effect of some opiates while on speed, but you don't want to be caught off guard by the opiate dose when the speed wears off. As always, be careful people.
