any feedback would be nice
thank you

Mixing downers is generally risky -- you greatly increase your chance of respiratory depression (passing out, possible coma, or even death).
Personally, I rarely if ever mix downers, and I suggest that if you decide to do so, that you do VERY LOW doses of each, the drugs will potentiate each other, making for a potent (and possibly harmful) combination.

well, i tried the combo. I took 25mg ambien and 15mg diazepam. From what i remember i had a pretty good time up to the point where i draw a blank of the rest of the events that took place. About 15 minutes ago i woke up on the floor of my room with a poem in my hand that i seemingly wrote but have no recollection of when. And i am still having a bit of a hard time walking because i still stumble. thank you for the info fairnymph. but i was on one of my impulsive days and took the combo beforre you replied. I am officially a jackass. Luckily everything turned out ok and out of respect for myself, this board and what it stands for i will always wate and see if what i am doing is safe.
my deepest apologies
and thank you

Mixing different CLASSES of downers is dangerous; mixing different benzos is not.

Ambien is technically not a benzo, but it is to be regarded as one in most contexts. Its chemical structure is different, but its mechanism of action is so similar to benzos that it is usually regarded as belonging to the same class.
However, I did find one vague warning on the net about mixing Ambien with benzos, but I sincerely doubt it will do anything but increase effects(and even then, respiratory failure would only occur at extremely large doses).

mind speciifng wat a really lard dose it?
im on 25 mg ambine and 15mg diazepam
safe or not?
(welli guess its to late ot be asking.

Okay to correct all the fools posting! It is not the mixing differnt classes of downers which is in particular the problem but the combined respitory depression.
Luckily benzos do not directly depress the CNS they just make it easier for other ligands to trigger the GABA receptors. Ambien is a type of benzo it is just specefic for differnt GABA receptors but still binds to the benzodiazapiene subunit.
In short perfectly safe as long as you don't add ohter downers.

1) Benzos ARE CNS depressants,
2) Ambien is NOT a benzo
3) mixing classes of downers is usually what causes most problems
4) Learn to fucking type before you call us fools.

i have mixed HEROIN and VALIUM together and havent ever had a problem...then again i do itin a smart way...i dont take boatloads of either when i combine them..

About the resperatory failure, is a person likely to pass out before this happens? Or will you be chilling, then all of a sudden not be able to breath. The reason I ask is because one can regulate alcohol dossage fairly easily, and I'm wondering if one can simply stop drinking when they feel too fucked up. My rule of thumb is to wait 30-45 minutes after taking a benzo, then drink beer or sip wiskey. When I start to spin at all, I stop drinking. I have never had any problems, but am I just lucky? What about ambien and alcohol. Basically I'm saying, won't you pass out before you stop breating, and can't you just stop drinking when you are about to pass out? Thanks

no, you wont experience resp failure until you are completely unconscious. Taking benzos first and going from there is the way to go.

Mixing downers are a necessity for me especially on comedowns, Its very hard to overdose on Benzo's unless combined with large amounts of alcohol. Or shooting Herion, being a former Herion and Methadone addict for 5 year's, I'd probably OD'd 15 times only once with just straight Herion. So dangerous but enjoyable. With large amount's Amnesia set's in, weeks seem like day's. In particular opiates mixed with Rohypnol, Rivitril,or Midazolam.

I'll try my best to type in a learned manner and be politically correct, but if you got a bone to pick, flame away. Anyways...
Abra's List of Relatively Safe Downer Combinations
1)Benzos + Benzos (diff. types don't really matter, compete for the same receptors)
2)Benzos + Ambien or Sonata (similar to benzos but even less potent in terms of respiratory depression)
3)Benzos + Alcohol (a VERY COMMON mix that INFREQUENTLY causes any problems, nothing that common sense can't prevent)
4)Benzos + Opiates (reasonable amounts of each, start small, combination used in hospitals fairly commonly and without mechanical ventilation)
Abra's List of Dangerous Downer Combinations
1)Barbs + Benzos (I mean REAL barbs like nembutal, seconal, NOT butalbital or phenobarbital; why would you combine these two anyway?)
2)Barbs + Alcohol (Ok if you are a vintage [soon to be deceased] movie star, otherwise you will likely just turn blue and die in relative obscurity)
3)Barbs + Ambien or Sonata (Probably very little additional danger over barbs alone, but strong barbs can easily be dangerous by themselves; almost anytime barbs are used in a hospital setting [sedation, status epilepticus, etc], mechanical intubation/ventillation is mandatory)
4)Barbs + Opiates (You are really asking for it; if you use small doses of each, you minimize the dangers, but still...similar to alcohol+barbs).
5)Opiates + Alcohol (People have died from this combination but still many people combine these drugs in copious amounts every Friday night; the most important factor is the potency of the opiate; a percocet or a few hydrocodone and some alcohol probably won't kill you, but a duragesic patch and 11 games of Asshole probably isn't a good combination)
None of the above info. is meant to be factual, just my personal observations and experiences. If you want facts, call the DEA. ;)

One problem that I can see w/this combo is the apap found in many opiate preps can be dangerous with alcohol...In my opinion, ppl who drink with opiates are sinners. You should never dirty such a clean pure high (opiates) with such a dirty filthy drug (alcohol).

Ambien is stronger than what? I recall reading in the Ambien monograph in the PDR or some such book that 20 mg ambien is about equiv to 10 mg diazapam. It may be stronger than temazapam, but certainly not as potent as many of the benzos.

Well GMOS, the original post only asked about the safety of mixing downers. It didn't mention which combinations were religiously taboo.
And 2 percs with a bucket of everclear isn't going to do much more damage than a bucket of everclear by itself. Of course 8-10 percs could contribute to liver damage with alcohol, but you should probably be more concerned about whether or not you are going to stop breathing.
