I suffer from migraines since I was about 12… till I was roughly 38 they were tolerable and somewhat treatable with over the counter stuff . But these days . Nah. Forget that. Prescription only. I had them roughly 6 times a months . Used rizatriptan to treat and it worked great . Then frequency went up to about 12-15 times a month and the doc suggested a maintenance med to try to reduce frequency and need for pain med . Since then I’ve been on Topomax . Yes yes .. I know . Please spare me the list of side effects . But it has helped . Somewhat. I take 100 mg a day. But rizatriptan in no longer working , that happens apparently. So I have to move to different triptan . Sumatriptan . It’s not working as well. And I do get nauseous at times . I have prescription for that as well.
Now if you are in US. And insurance , money and going to a doctor is an issue I very very highly recommend Cove . Google that . Extremely affordable . And they will work with your finances and preferences .
Thing to remember is . Migraine is the most common neuro disorder diagnosed ever . Likely, you don’t need an MRI .. they won’t find anything . Unfortunately, unless you have the liberty of not going to work , a lot of non-traditional treatments won’t work simply because you still have to hop to it. As in … go to work . I can’t smoke weed, or dip my feet in buckets of hot fluid (yes , I was suggested that .still want to try .) or lay for hours in a dark room , hug trees , curl up in the woods , etc . But prescription meds in some combinations have provided relief to an extent . I’m still in pain, in a “fog”, but I can survive a day of work without barfing my guts out or poking my eyeball out with a fork ! So it’s a win in my book of things .
Good luck !! We can make it
