methadone

Does you doctor know anything about methadone? If they're prescribing it (whoever is) they should set up a taper plan. We, here on the internet cannot do such nearly as well as you, OP, can by sitting down and working it out with your doctor.

The fast effective taper I've ever been personally involved with was the patient dropping 10mg a week every week (from 90mg-40mg), then dropping 5mg every week.

I don't imagine you'd want to drop more than 10mg every two weeks (what this means is, say you're on 100mg no, you drop down to 90mg, and hold at 90mg for two weeks; hence, 10mg/two week; after two weeks being on 90mg, you drop down to 80mg and hold there for a week; so on and so forth).

If at all possible, work this taper thing out with your doctor, not us (although of course we're here to give suggestions and support).

Where is you doctor in all this?

What are your goals?

BTW OP, the more you can write in paragraphs any make things easier for us to read, the more (and better) responses you'll get.

Stay well!

p.s. Using a shorter acting opioid to taper down then doing a short bupe detox might work, but that's going to be a lot more difficult to accomplish and set up than a normal, more traditional methadone taper (for one thing, it's unlikely their doctor would be a part of such a taper, and having an MD's support can me a LOT).
