lo-fi = low fidelity

it's usually used to describe punk bands that record in their bedroom with poor equipment.

i'd say tool is progressive metal. others might disagree, but then again someone posted a rage aginst the machine song in this thread, and I don't consider that metal.
 
don't know what this would be considered but its closer to metal than anything

 
well, I just downloaded the whole meshuggah's discography so I'm yet to listen to all of their albums. so the next one I'll listen to is Nothing then :D

listening to Akeldama by The Faceless. I fucking LOVE this group. I mean there's a brutal breakdown here, a prog solo there, then a badass riff and again a jazzy part (evan brewer FTW) I would kill to see them live.

Still haven't formulated a definite opinion on it yet. There are some GREAT fucking songs and every song has an "Awww yeeeaaahh!" moment on it (lol) but some songs are just a little too cheesy and Steve Vai or Iron Maiden sounding. Favorite tracks so far are Physical Education, Para Mexer, The Future That Awaited Me, and The Woven Web.
 
This is off the new Insomnium album which comes out April 28th.

If you don't listen to Insomnium now is the time to start.

They are one of my favorite bands of all time.
