Men like women with no makeup? WAT??

Your problem isn't make-up, it's acne. Topical niacin and low-GL/dairy-free diets have very few side-effects. I say this not because I'm against make-up but because you could be doing some damage to yourself with the benzoyl peroxide, especially if it turns your whole face red. You need to lay off, give your skin time to heal, and work on understanding what usually goes on in your life before you break out. If you pay attention to it you may be able to identify the cause, and you may notice times when the break-outs are not as bad, and what you might have done or what you might be able to do to prevent that.

I had pretty bad acne until I gave up milk and tried to eat lots of vegetables that contain carotenoids. It hasn't gone away completely, but it improved a lot.

Another trick is to swap out your pillowcase regularly. It's not good to hold your face next to some nasty piece of cloth for eight hours.

Also, you don't need to feel bad about having acne. It's okay. If you leave it alone for a while you'll probably find that it doesn't look as bad as you think it does when you obsess over it. Worrying also leads to touching your face, which is bad.

Thanks, good post :)

It's definitely related to stress, and drug use. Probably mostly just the drug use since that seems to coincide with stress. I've looked for a pattern but haven't managed to spot one yet.
Sometimes it'll randomly clear up for a week or so, that's always nice. Hopefully I will figure it out.

I haven't really pursued changing my diet. I don't really understand why I had normal spots when I was a teenager, then no spots from 18-24, then actually get full on acne. I'd have thought that I'd know if I was sensitive to lactose.

Already down with the clean pillows and topical niacin....

Sometimes it's not as bad as I think it is, sometimes it's really bad. It's like I've grown some extra features, like a new nose. Ah nopes, just acne. I try to live with it by focusing on other stuff - dressing well, doing my hair, taking care of myself despite my mutilated face.

Quoted because it's worth a re-read. Most people want the "quick fix" however, and make up is just that... :-/

I've had ye acne for about 4 years now. I've tried.... a lot of things. As I mentioned in my post, it's only recently that it occured to me that I could cover it all with makeup.

It's not a "quick fix" so much as a last resort. In some ways I really don't like it - it requires an element of care that I don't usually take. I don't care if I get wet or dirty or anything -- but don't want a melting face....
On the other hand, I look in the mirror and it's not too noticable or shocking. I look kind of ok.

I know that makeup could make it worse - since I'm covering my face in goo all day. I'll monitor it, don't want to get such in a vicious circle o makeup.

^ Have you tried Proactive? A friend of mine tried it, and his skin went smooth and really soft within a week. It was good stuff. I only have acne issues if I eat like shit for too long and don't drink enough water, but I've considered getting on the proactiv regimen.

I heard once you start using Proactive you have to use it forever or else your skin goes berserk.
Like Rogaine. Once you stop all the new regrowth falls out.

^ oooh, didn't hear that. My friend didn't have that problem. He only used it for about a month, so maybe the short term usage is why he didn't have problems. His skin was really nice though.

When i was eating lots of fish, drinking loads of water and not working out lol my skin was really nice. Working out actually kills my skin too. It's pretty frustrating. I was my face before and after and it doesn't seem to help.

Working out, especially at first starting it raises cortisol levels and that is also a stress hormone and it makes your skin oily. They also say that exercise increases androgens and that leads to acne, but I don't know if that's true because I see more women with acne than I do dudes no matter how much they work out. Limit exercise to 30-45 minutes to minimize cortisol levels.

A few pimples here and there are certainly not a dealbreaker for me.

I see too many chicks who just go too far with the making themselves up thing. The hair dye, the the flashy highlights, the complicated hair styles really don't add much and that shit must take hours and hours to deal with.

Nice, well brushed long hair in ponytail can be just as nice. As a general rule, if you want men to not ask you out, cut your hair short.

Some women are beautiful without makeup, some women need makeup. Its all 50/50. The majority of the time, my partner wears no makeup and I think she's stunning for it.

I am growing mine. Not digging the added time in the mornings and it is not even LONG yet. I don't know how to use a round brush AND hold a hair dryer.

I think in my 40's I need shoulder length hair. I like the softness it creates around my face.
My husband is totally getting out of bed at 630am once a week to give me a blow out. He knows this. He doesn't think he is doing it but he will. I am his advertisement.

Pretty much.

I haven't worn makeup for the past maybe 4-5 days. (Completely unrelated, but I thought I had an eye infection and didn't want to irritate it.) Through this time, I didn't get hit on any more than usual.

I always notice an attention difference between makeup and no makeup. I blame the freckles...god, I hate them. LOL But really, I just think I look all washed out and pale without makeup.

I don't see how freckles and pale skin can be a turn off...

I'm getting more and more turned off by all this "body modification" I keep seeing. There is a healthy balance to taking care of one's physical appearance, but some people start doing some pretty far out things while skipping over the basics.

I have past the shoulder length hair and never blow it dry. Just wash, sleep on the wet hair usually and it still looks pretty good. Put a few bobby pins in, and pretty barrettes to pull some of it out of my face and get lots of compliments. It helps that it is naturally curly/wavy so it doesn't need a lot of maintenance to look good.

I had a hairstylist roommate at one point and he blew my hair out a few times, and while I liked how it looked, I think I like the natural wave/curl better. A couple days of not washing it makes the texture even smoother.

1.) Honestly, I just like women who look comfortable in their own skin. Whether this involves makeup or not is not wholly secondary.
2.) In a related vein, makeup is just one part of what makes any woman I'm interested in attractive; it's also clothes, poise, overall body language, and of course the topics and flow of conversation.

In short, saying makeup is crucial to women getting attention from men is akin to saying men wearing suits is crucial to attention from women. Sure, it helps, but is it a deal-breaker if it doesn't materialize?

...

a couple of years back my friend was going out with this guy who was a dickhead. anyway one day he said to her " i really like beyonce because she doesn't wear much make up" my friend laughed in his face for ages.
